With fields and fells all around, this is a stunning place to camp, and rightly popular with walkers and cyclists on the hunt for some classic Lake District scenery
The Lake District is arguably the most beautiful corner of England. With a combination of picture-perfect villages, sensational lakes and glorious green dales, this remarkable region is surely the perfect retreat for any camper. Described by romantic poet William Wordsworth as “The loveliest spot that man hath found” it’s hard to disagree, especially on a clear Cumbrian day.
Tucked away down a narrow country lane, Eskdale can be found in one of the Lake's more secluded pockets. Run by the ever-friendly Sara and Martyn, the eight acres of flat, well maintained grassland are backed by tall trees with a tranquil stream snaking past.
Upon arrival, you instantly realise Eskdale's facilities have been created with hassle-free camping in mind. Pitch sizes are generous, facilities well-maintained, and the fully-stocked shop is a life saver when you forget your toothbrush!
If you wish to get reacquainted with Mother Nature, then Eskdale’s location couldn’t be better. The site is ideally placed for reaching the impressive Wasdale fells or climbing England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Also right on your doorstep is one of the most beautiful train journeys in England, the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. This historic, narrow gauge railway carries passengers along seven miles of spectacular scenery on an unforgettable 40-minute ride.
Eskdale has a cosy, friendly atmosphere and is a genuinely lovely place to camp, in a region with no shortage of great pitchup spots.

Excellent location and facilities
We had a lovely stay at Eskdale campsite. The showers were powerful, hot and clean, and the site location was brilliant. It is a remote site, but there are 3 local pubs within walking distance, and the two we visited were very nice and had great food (The Boot Inn and Woolpack Inn). Close by to some great walks, and also perfect for mountain biking on the Eskdale Trail (and hitching a ride on the La'al Ratty for the way back...). The owners were very welcoming, and the shop was stocked full of essentials. Would recommend to others and would happily visit again.

Beautiful campsite, location & facilities
What a find! We were met with a warm welcome and a quick guided tour to show us the excellent facilities. All buildings were kept in top order and cleaned regularly. The showers were large and with continuous hot water supplies whenever you wanted. An abundance of pot-washing facilities, a drying room, and well-stocked shop. The site itself is immaculate and based a the foot of some of Lakeland's most beautiful fells. With 4 pubs within immediate walking/striking distance it is the perfect location! Would highly recommend it !

What a find! We were met with a warm and welcoming smile upon arrival, including a quick tour to point out all the excellent facilities. All amenities were in EXCELLENT order and immaculately looked after. Showers with ample space and continuous hot water, a shop selling plenty of essential provisions, pot-washing facilities in abundance, a drying room, cold water supply stand pipes and a very well kept picturesque campsite right at the foot of some most beautiful Lakeland fells. 4 pubs within striking distance - what more could you ask for? Highly recommended

Excellent Stay
We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed the site, everywhere was clean, the toilets, shower, washing up area etc. We would 100% stay at the site again, the shop was very useful and well stocked.

Gorgeous place
Absolutely lovely campsite, great pitches, although full it didn't feel crowded. The staff were all helpful and nice. The shower and toilet block were clean and the facilities were spot on. The shop had everything you could think of. Would definitely go again

Lovely stay!!
Eskdale campsite was beautiful! We were welcomed the minute we arrived by very friendly staff! The facilities there were lovely and clean, the showers were hot (no matter what time of day you went). We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again, thank you!

Idyllic Camping Destination
Came here for four nights and could not have asked for a more relaxing setting. Deep in the mountains and surrounded by nature. Hosts were lovely and put us in the adults only field where there were only about 6 other tents and a lovely stream! Showers and toilets are very well kept and the shop was packed full of useful bits and pieces- even sold beer! You can hear the cows moo-ing constantly from the hills, which I found very entertaining, but you may want some ear plugs if you are a very light sleeper! If you want a peaceful stay in the middle of nowhere, with gorgeous walks and good pubs and very little else, then I very highly recommend Eskdale Campsite! Absolute bliss.

Fabulous location & extremely well run site
Amazing views and a great location for walking. It's also an extremely well run campsite with spacious pitches, good facilities (inc hot water) that are regularly cleaned and a well enforced no noise policy. We had a great stay & thanks for having us! 5/5.

quiet camping in a lovely location
We spent two nights in this camping, booked quite last minute and the only availability was in the non-car part of the camping. We couldn't find better location: that part of the camping is very quiet, no children allowed, cars are parked near so you don't have too many troubles moving all the stuff from the carpark to the pitch. the camping has a useful shop on site, toilets are very clean, maybe one shower more would help during busy times. The Wi-Fi doesn't work very well.

Clean, well-run, family-friendly
We took our 18 month old here for her first time camping. It was a really clean campsite, lovely facilities and great showers. It chucked it down one night and yet we weren't all trudging through lots of mud the next day - a well drained field! Everything was well-maintained and the shop had everything you needed.

One of my new favourite places
We (myself and two girls) had a short stay here last week in our camper. I Chose this site based on other reviews, facilities and local activities. I’m so glad I did. My two, 10 and 12, made a lot of new friends within 30 mins of pitching and off they went ! It felt very safe and friendly and they really enjoyed themselves. The site was picturesque, facilities really good/clean, and the onsite shop very well stocked and very reasonably priced. The owners work very hard here and you often see them around the site and are lovely people. I rarely revisit places but we will definitely going back. Thank you.

Amazing!
Fantastic site. Martyn and Sara and all their staff were lovely, very welcoming and constantly cleaning!! The site and facilities are immaculate. We had to drag the kids from the trampoline but once we did there are some great walks nearby. The shop has the essentials you need and there’s other shops nearby if necessary. We had a fab time and will be back

Picturesque location
We had a 4 night stay at Eskdale in probably the worst week of weather that this summer could produce! Despite that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the trampoline and the close proximity of the streams and waterfall. The facilities were great, proper showers and lots of hot water. A very well stocked shop on site too, and three pubs all within walking distance. The site was very busy because of the school summer holiday season. We did have a problem of someone pitching very close to our tent and blocking the thoroughfare for cars. The campsite owner was very apologetic, and it was an honest mistake made by a member of staff. We were offered compensation or a free weekend which we probably won’t take as it is too far to travel for a weekend. However, it was dealt with extremely well and would certainly recommend this campsite to anyone.
★★★★★
Great campsite in a lovely location.
Great campsite with excellent facilities, which were immaculate! Lovely scenic setting and the added bonus of a play area and trampoline for the kids (although they had just as much fun running around the field!). 2 pubs next to the campsite and another a short walk away. The nearby Boot Inn is great for food and has a beer garden. Highly recommended.

Beautiful setting, very friendly, great facilities
Met by very friendly and helpful staff at reception who guided us to a pitch after discounting what I’d overpaid on booking for an extra car. They put all the families with youngish kids in the field near the play area with much lower traffic so safe for the kids to play. Worked well for bedtimes & waking times too. Despite being busy / “full” it did not feel overcrowded at all. Toilets / showers & washing up facilities really nice & clean. Well-stocked shop. Useful local info from staff & in the indeed washing up area. Plenty of walks on the doorstep & pubs & steam train within easy reach on foot. All made for a wonderful couple of days. We will return!

Lovely quiet campsite
Great quiet spot for walking and cycling both on and off road. Very clean facilities and lovely pitch. Shop has everything you may think you need with ice pack facility.

Perfection
We recently enjoyed a short but wonderful three night break at Eskdale Campsite. Myself, my partner and our 18month old daughter. We couldn’t fault our stay, staff were extremely friendly and happy to help/answer any questions. The sites facilities are superb and are constantly attended to and cleaned. The family shower room is an added bonus. Along side this there’s a well equipped shop where you can even pick up a cold beer. We will return, look forward to it.

Absolutely Perfect in every way!
Stunning peaceful surroundings, no need to drive anywhere, beautiful walks from the site. Well equipped shop, good selection of local pubs within walking distance for food. Immaculately clean amenities. Perfect pods for a bit of a luxury camp.....would definitely recommend.
★★★★★
Lovely campsite
This was the first time my partner and myself have been camping together and I really enjoyed it. We used one of the camping pods, they are very spacious and warm. The facilities were clean, warm water constantly and close to the pods. The walks around the area were beautiful and the near by church was a lovely little building. Everyone at the campsite was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

We didn’t want to go home
We really enjoyed our stay. The site is really well maintained, the facilities are clean, the staff friendly, and the scenery is incredible. There are some really great walks around the site, and some great pubs too. We can’t recommend it highly enough, and we’ll definitely be going back.

Fantastic stay
Eskdale Campsite is beautiful, picturesque, rural, clean and friendly, with great amenities. The shop is very well stocked, and has everything you could think to need whilst camping. We stayed on one of the car free, no electricity pitches, near the stream, which was heavenly (however remember the insect repellent!). Location was great for walking (within a good distance of Sca Fell and Scafell Pike, along with lots of other hills), as well as being local to many pubs (The Boot Inn was lovely), and the Eskdale and Ravenglass Railway. Would really recommend this site, the owners and staff were very hospitable and accommodating. Looking forward to returning.
★★★★★
Tranquil and spotless site
I have been camping for more than 4 decades and I can honestly say this is the best camp site I have stayed in. The views are breathtaking, the site was so well organised and so clean. The 3 pubs on the doorstep are fabulous - The Boot Inn being my favourite. AND to top it off a stunning waterfall right by the side of the campsite! Amazing place - Go, go go!!!

First camping trip success
What a beautiful setting for our first experience with our tent. A lovely clean tidy site, great shop ideal if you have forgotten anything. Toilets and showers where clean all the time and showers are great. The kids had a blast with the other children they met on site and we got chatting to more experienced fellow campers who assured us we would love it, which we did! Generous pitches pubs close by and beautiful scenery. We will definitely stay again .
★★★★★
A glorious half term break!
We had glorious weather for our short break in Eskdale which made the whole experience more pleasurable! This is a lovely site, clean, well organised with helpful owners who made us feel welcome. The showers/loos/washing up areas are clean and there was always hot water. The shop is well stocked and there are some great pubs in walking distance, we didn't need to use our car at all for the three nights we stayed here. Some fabulous walks in the local area so no need to go further afield. Most of them ended at a pub.... The site was busy and could be noisy with kids at time, but it was lovely to hear them having a great time and being outside 24/7. The local river pools were busy in the sunny weather! Our 12 year old made friends immediately and we never really saw him when we were on site and had to drag him in for sleep....the mark of a great break!
★★★★★
Amazing campsite nestled under the fells.
A warm welcome was received as soon as we set foot in the reception area. We had visited before so knew we were in for a relaxing weekend, walking the fells and tea at the fantastic Boot Inn..

Beautiful, peaceful campsitr
Just spent a weekend at Eskdale and can’t reccomend enough. The site is beautifully maintained with excellent facilities but you still feel away from it all. Fab walks directly from the site and 3 lovely pubs very close. Will definitely be back soon

Excellent facilities and friendly staff
Great location to explore Cumbria with the best camping facilities I've come across - good showers, bathrooms, kitchen washing up area, drying room, well manicured gardens and very friendly staff.
★★★★★
Superb Campsite
Martyn & Sara are fantastic 'hosts' and couldn't do more to help. The site is immaculately clean and very family orientated. Flat pitches, great playground/trampoline for the kids and with so much to do on the doorstep there is really no need to move your car for the duration of your stay! Thank you - we will be back (a lot!).
★★★★★
Lovely setting, friendly staff and a great local
We recently experienced Eskdale campsite on a beautiful hot weather weekend (when it was full) and in rainy mist during the week (when it was quiet) and throughout it was a fantastic holiday. The setting is lovely, with some great low and mid level walks near by. You can also hike Scafel and Bowfell though they are much longer treks. The Eskdale and Ravenglass railway is in walking distance. From the second we arrived the staff were lovely and very helpful. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and warm and they also have ample dishwashing and a laundry. The shop is very well stocked with all your essentials and then some and there is plenty of info on local attractions and the standard and mountain weather forecasts. There are three pubs near by. We tried the two dog friendly pubs, the woolpack and boot Inn. Both were great but we loved the Boot Inn - the food and ale were great. Highly recommended
★★★★★
Wonderful campsite in stunning location
Lovely campsite with great facilities - including useful drying room, hot and powerful showers and a thoughtfully stocked shop which even included toast and coffee if feeling lazy with the camping stove! The surrounding area is beautiful for walking or wild-swimming in the Esk just upstream from the church! Food at the nearby Boot inn was perfect too. Will definitely be back!
★★★★★
Great site in a less crowded part of the Lakes
Despite the rather patchy weather we all had a brilliant time at Eskdale. It's brilliantly run, with a well stocked shop and immaculate facilities. Beautiful setting, three pubs within walking distance, dog friendly, couldn't ask for more.
★★★★★
Nice family site, directly at the lake with easy access to wray castle
Good facilities, plenty of space to pitch our tent. We particularly liked the gorgeous walk from campsite to wray castle.
★★★★★
Fantastic site for adventure family camping in gorgeous nature
Modern, very well maintained facilities, plenty of space for tents. Our kids loved the two playgrounds, especially the trampoline and made quickly friends with other kids. Owners were very nice and gave us useful advice. Beautiful nature with rich opportunities for hikes and outdoor adventures. We'll come again!
★★★★★
Gorgeous family break
We had a great time at Eskdale staying in a pod The campsite was very well kept with great facilities. Everything was super clean and fresh smelling and the owners could not do enough for us. The local pubs were perfect and we will be going back to this site in the summer for a longer stay. Highly recommended!
