  • Beds Provided

One double bed, two singles (one a bunk) Log burner inside, fire-pit outside

The Owner Says

With a PROPER double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk over the double) plus “Up-cycled” outdoor furniture (chairs/benches and tables) made from wooden pallets and decking (as a result of our local pub’s refurbishment!) fairy lights, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, glasses, BBQ tools, portable single gas stove, kettle, not to mention your own log burning stove inside AND a campfire outside by the door- there’s quite a lot included!

As no cooking pans are provided we suggest bringing a frying pan or two to cook those tasty bacon and egg sarnies (our local butcher delivers on Saturday mornings!). You will need to bring your own bedding (none supplied), it’s so much nicer having your own pillow you’ve got to admit!  It can get a little cool during the night, even in mid-summer so bring a nice warm duvet.  Other items you will need to bring with you include; dishcloths, bag of t-lights, gas canisters for camping stove, (we sell them in the shop), and perhaps a gazebo to shelter from the (rain!) sun.

As with the Ecopods please bring slippers or similar to wear inside the Houses.

Our Hobbit Houses have solar lights as there is no electricity for the very same reasons mentioned above…

Each Hobbit House also has its own fire-pit.

Prices start from £47.50 per night (Sunday to Thursday off-peak) or £95/night during holidays and weekends per Hobbit House, (min 2 nights), up to a max of 4 people per House. Please see the Prices page for details on the discounts available.

A refundable £50 damage deposit is added to all Hobbit House bookings and this is returned on to your card 7-10 days after departure.

Our Best Price Guarantee

About The Hideaway at Baxby Manor

Suitable For

Tents, campervans, glampers, kids, dogs (except in glamping accommodation or The Sanctuary), couples, families – yes.

Stag, hen and noisy parties, large caravans and motorhomes – no.

It's a 5 minute walk from the campsite into the village of Husthwaite, one of many old settlements around here that appeared in the Domesday Book and still reflect their history in Norman churches and exposed Tudor beamed buildings. Families staying in range of the campsite will find a tennis court here, along with a pleasant pub (Tomahawk Steakhouse). If you're looking to avoid the car there are plenty of great walks and cycle routes that link up the various villages. Elsewhere, though, its 3 miles to Shandy Hall (01347 868465), home of picaresque novelist Laurence Sterne, and a little further to Byland Abbey (01347 868614), formerly one of the greatest early Gothic buildings in northern England, now left in magnificent ruins since the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. Other top attractions in the vicinity include Duncombe Park (01439 770213) and must-see Rievaulx Abbey (01439 798228) – both within the North York Moors National Park (01439 772700) and approx 5 miles away.

Food & Drink

During the school holidays and every weekend during term time, a vintage caravan ('Liza-Jane') arrives, serving daily breakfasts (830 - 1030am), amazing home-baked cakes croissants, breakfast pastries, and proper coffee. Most Fridays there are also authentic stone-baked pizzas - not to be missed. ON a Saturday morning the local butcher visits at 9am – you can hire a tripod and grill onsite for cooking on your own campfire (£5 for the duration of your stay). Pub-wise the Tomahawk Steakhouse at Husthwaite is just down the road, a 5 minute walk away.
