Home Farm sits in the blink-and-you'll-miss-it South Bucks village of Radnage. Helmed by affable host Andrew Radford, this traditional, family-run site boasts spectacular vistas of the surrounding Chiltern Hills. With myriad walking routes snaking from the site including the Ridgeway Path and Icknield Way, Home Farm is the perfect base for exploring this lush, unspoilt landscape less than an hour to the west of the capital. There's several acres of well-shorn grass to pitch up your tent or park your campervan, and while facilities might be a touch on the basic side, they're more than adequate. Kids will love letting their imaginations run wild – the spacious verdant fields their own personal fiefdom of fun – while mum and dad can recline and soak up the sunset over those famous hills.

New for summer 2014, Home Farm's fully-furnished 5m bell tents come equipped with everything you could want for a fuss-free stay with proper double bed mattresses, single futons, wood-burning stove, rugs, candle-chandelier, cooking equipment, Indian Kadai firepit/bbq and lounger chair to loaf back in for a post-grill nap.

As all cool campers know, proximity to a decent boozer is high on our list of cool campsite credentials. We all love the post-pitch up stroll into the nearby village to find that welcoming country pub and savour a pint of the local brew, unwind in the beer garden (or dry off beside the roaring fireplace as the case may be), and get the inside scoop from the locals on what to see and do. One thing we're less fond of though is the schlep back to camp, particularly if you've got littl'uns with you or, if you've... ahem... over indulged (you know who you are). Well, thankfully a treacherous night time stagger tentward is one thing thing you won't need to worry about at this idyllic Chiltern Hills site – for you'll be camping right next to not one, but two of the area's nicest pubs. We'll drink to that?

We had two worries before staying: 1) That it would be full to the brim of noisy and uncontrollable children and 2) That the few reviews about facilities being messy were the truth... WE HAD NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! Amazing beautiful fabulous campsite. There were a massive mix of people from children to couples of all ages to a few groups, but everyone was lovely and considerate, and there was so much space you had nothing to worry about. The facilities are FANTASTIC. 3 power showers with mirrors, toilets, hooks, hand soap, sinks - which were all regularly cleaned (at 10am bizarrely..). Only message to the owner would be that the middle shower was slightly weaker than the others and the temperature was temperamental, but sure this is short-term so nothing for potentials to worry about. As well as three showers, there is a cabin of toilets for both genders, a free fridge-freezer, a washer/dryer for £1 I think, a washing up station, first aid kit (not sure what it had in) and bricks to put your BBQ on. All in all - you could not ask for more! The location is fabulous. There are views from every direction of the bottom fields and the glamping field, and those in campervans could see from their seats as everyone is considerate in their pitching. There is plenty of space - it is prime summer holiday and we were absolutely fine. There is a pub at the end of the drive which is close enough to be convenient for meals, their own cider, ice creams and a friendly chat with the locals, but far enough you won't know it's there once back. There is another gastropub in the village but we never got there. There isn't a shop, but one in the next village if need be (maybe a future investment idea for the pub or campsite owner...). All in all - you can not get better than this campsite! Absolutely amazing!! Working farm but also a luxury campsite which is relaxing, peaceful and back to basics -- with all the facilities a short (and a very short) walk away. We were a couple in our early 20s staying 2 nights in August .... everyone else was a massive range in age and group. Absolutely no problems with anyone or anything :)

We spent a couple of nights at Home Farm at the start of June this year.  Getting there without a car means a bus from High Wycombe, and about 40 minutes' walk along fairly quiet country lanes.

The site has a nice view over a grassy bowl and into a copse of trees.  Beyond that are the rolling Chiltern Hills, and the endemic red kites do indeed circle overhead.  Next door to the site is a cosy pub which had some nice ales on offer.  You can also walk along the windy up-and-down lanes to The Three Horseshoes, which is a pretty, old-looking pub on a steep slope which doubles as a restaurant (we didn't try the food).

The booking confirmation email invited new visitors to drop by reception to say hello - but it wasn't clear what the reception was.  There was the front door to the owners' house, but we didn't want to go disturbing them considering it wasn't marked as a reception.  Throughout our entire stay we didn't meet the owners once, which was a bit strange.

Weekend away

Had a really lovely weekend away at this campsite in the Chilterns. The owners are relaxed and friendly and had some tips for a good local walk for seeing the red kites. The facilities are basic but well kept - although the washing up area is outside (luckily we were blessed with good weather but it may be worth bringing an umbrella just in case!).

The family who own the campsite also work full time and there are no designated pitches so we were a little aprehensive that we might struggle with finding a good pitch or large groups being noisy but all the other guests were really concienous and we got a pitch larger than we might elsewhere! Although there were a few large groups on the site, everyone stuck to the 10pm noise curfew making it a really peaceful place to stat. The pub next door serves surprisingly good food despite looking a little run down - would definitely recommend!

All in all a really lovely weekend away!
