Derwentwater (Ready Camp)

Cumbria Ca12 5 En, Cumbria, England
1 acre hosted by Ready C.
Brilliantly situated Lake District glamping, close to both Derwentwater and the charming market town of Keswick
Tucked away between Dertwentwater and Skiddaw, and just a few minutes' walk from the local tourist town of Keswick, there are few better locations to find safari tents in the Lake District than Derwentwater Campsite – an expansive but peaceful site ideally located for all the delights of this ravishing part of Cumbria. Close by the north shore of Derwentwater, it is, unsurprisingly, a fabulous base for water-based activities, but it's also well placed for exploring some of the Lakes' most famous hiking routes. For active campers the place is a boon.

In total, there are no less than nine safari tents in their own sheltered area of the campsite. Each has two bedrooms furnished with proper beds (each tent can sleep 4 adults or a family of 6), a living area that extends outside to a pleasant terrace, and a kitchenette fitted out with everything you need – hob, microwave, fridge, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.

Once you've settled in, you can get out and explore the surroundings – Keswick, with its shops, restaurants and other attractions is a perfect place to stock up on supplies before heading up the nearby hulk of Skiddaw – a 3,054ft summit (the sixth highest in England) that dominates the skyline here, and is accessible by way of a beautiful and surprisingly easy trail.

There are equally pleasant walks to be done around Derwentwater's shores, but you could just as easily stay put and contemplate life in the site itself, an easy choice once that all-pervading sense of relaxation takes hold.

Your time spent…where it matters Time away with family & friends is great, but let’s be honest - it can sometimes be hectic to even think about! Ready Camp takes away some of the stresses and hassles of camping - having a pre-erected, canvas-wrapped haven with real beds, a kitchen and dining area. There’s no need to fill the car rammed to the rafters with an endless supply of ‘just in cases’. We give you back the time to do the fun things together with your friends and family. Pack your bedding & a sense of adventure Walk into a comfortable haven with cosy furnishings and oodles of little luxuries.  With two bedrooms, an open plan living/dining area where you can wine and dine to your hearts content or put your feet up on the comfy settee after a long day’s adventure. The Kitchen area includes a fridge, microwave and hob, along with basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. (We’ve even supplied the corkscrew!) When it comes to light’s out…we’ve even included a torch for those midnight toilet trips, or just to make funny shadows on the tent!
Nearby attractions
You might find enough stimulation in the gentle walks that you can do around Derwentwater’s shores, but if you want more of a challenge there is a picturesque path up to the summit of Skiddaw; and Helvellyn, Striding Edge and Blencathra are also all close by. Keswick Launch (017687 72263) operates 50-minute cruises of the lake, which you can join at any one of seven lakeshore jetties. In Keswick itself, the Cumberland Pencil Museum (017687 73626) is a perfect rainy-day attraction (and indeed worth visiting even when it's not raining); the Keswick Brewing Company (017687 80700) runs regular tours; and the excellent Theatre by the Lake (017687 74411) is one of the UK's most innovative small theatres, home to the fantastic Words on the Water literature festival in March and the annual Keswick Jazz Festival in May. Opposite the theatre, the National Trust’s Crow Park is a great place to fly a kite and enjoy a picnic, while nearby Hope Park (017687 73445) is another scenic picnic spot, a landscaped estate and beauty spot that has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Food and drink
The Pumpkin Café (017687 75973), not far from the campsite, is a handy place to put together picnics and walking supplies, with great gourmet sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes and brownies (they also do a nice sit-down menu in their upstairs café). The Dog & Gun in Keswick (017687 73463) is a cracking pub, great local ales and excellent pub grub (nothing fried is their proud boast).
