Old-fashioned family fun on a child-friendly campsite in rural Lincolnshire

This campsite in the Lincolnshire countryside has a good old-fashioned feel so it’s no surprise when you learn that it’s been welcoming campers for more than 20 years. It’s in a peaceful rural spot, with 40 pitches, a couple of log cabins and a handful of glamping options. It can be hard to please all of the people all of the time, but this site has a good go at it with options for just about everyone. Glampers, campers and caravans are equally welcome here. Dogs are allowed and families are well-catered for. There’s a go-to space for groups and a peaceful adults-only field too.

A mix of off-grid and electric hook-up pitches are available across two adjoining flat fields. The main camping field, surrounded by hedges, has plenty of space for games and family fun with pitches around its edges. Beyond this, there’s the Rally or Overflow field. This space has a few electric hook-up pitches which are fixed, but otherwise it’s a pitch-where-you please affair; great for families who want to pitch up together.

Situated in their own enclosure at the bottom of this second camping field are two fully-equipped bell tents and two more which are rented unfurnished. There’s also a fully-equipped and insulated glamping pod among the trees, with a private kitchen and toilet. A gypsy caravan finishes off the campsite’s glamping offering, situated on the quiet side sitting cosy in between large conifer trees. The last accommodation here is even more solid: two log cabins tucked in a grove of Christmas trees which provide year-round self catering stays close to the small and peaceful cluster of adults-only pitches.

While the old-fashioned fun of camping (and campfires) is what this place is all about, it has evolved a little over the years. Food trucks pay regular visits and, in the school holidays, there are bushcraft sessions taking place in the site’s small woodland. Owners Robert and Rosemary, assisted by daughter Victoria, have also developed a den-building area, added to the rustic playground and made a games and craft room for kids. These former farmer’s fields are surrounded by Lincolnshire countryside that’s ripe for rural rambles. You can walk 40 minutes to a good pub with a beer garden or drive in 20 to historic Lincoln with its mighty cathedral.

Young couple camping🌻
Loved the campsite very friendly staff (especially the toilet cleaning staff they were so so welcoming and friendly and always kept it so so clean) and great facilities. Lots of children but we were a young couple and do not mind them running around playing with water guns. However some people might but they were well behaved and everyone seemed friendly. Really recommend the site and it was a lovely small break.

The Ark in the Woods
Lovely, peaceful but snug ark
We had a lovely time. The Ark is set in it's own clearing within the cedar forest, fences all around and providing privacy and comfort. The ark itself is well insulated and snug, with a plug in heater to help warm you up and 4 plug points in all, so mobiles can be charged etc. There's also a small electric cool box (and just pop to reception each morning and evening to get fresh freezer packs). There is a small, private kitchen area beside the ark that has everything you need - a calor double stove with grill, kettle, pans, cutlery, dishes and glasses all provided. The toilet is separate and outdoor, but in the same private clearing and features sink, small cabinet and chemical toilet. The site itself is easy to find and compact, so you will hear other campers but they're all happy sounds and there is plenty of birdsong and it's impressively dark at night.

From the host
Set in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside, our relaxing site has various accommodation options depending on your requirements. We are a family ran site and a family friendly site offering facilities to accommodate guest of all ages. Surrounded by beautiful English countryside, and a short distance from the Roman city of Lincoln, Lincolnshire Showground, Market Town of Market Rasen, and many picturesque Lincolnshire villages. The site has been running for 20 years and started by Robert when he decided to make a switch some of the land from a working farm into a camping and glamping site. Now Vicky, Robert and Rosemary's daughter is very much involved. The site consists of 3 areas : The main family field which has a play area, football goals and room for ball games - this field is very popular with families with children; The Rally Field is our over flow or some people just prefer it and is a large flat hedged field where apart form the electric points customers can decide where to pitch - perfect for groups; The Quiet Side is a shaded side predominantly for adults to enjoy some peace and quiet. We also have two traditional Scandinavian Log Cabins, perfect for those who would prefer a self catering accommodation with more home comforts than camping for glamping. The Ark in the woods is a secluded wooden pod in the clearing of large conifer trees, an excellent way to engage with the great outdoors such as star gazing or listening to bird song. Romany Caravan Newly painted and updated for 2022, was built by Robert himself and is a cosy wagon offering a real feel of what it's like to stay in a romany travelers caravan. Furnished Bell Tents: New canvases for 2022. Tan and Tethera, named after the Lincolnshire way of counting sheep, are situated at the end of the rally field in their own area, customers love the camp fires & outside kitchen cooking area. Un-furnished Bell Tents: New canvases for 2022. Yan and Pethera bell tents, are spacious bell tents that are empty letting the customer make the space feel their own without having to bring their own tent.
