Washblock at the bottom of the site, with free showers, toilets, basins and washing-up sinks. 10amp electric hook-ups on the touring pitches and the hillside camping pitches. Bell tents are furnished with a king-sized bed, 2 single beds, electric bed sheet (in the comfort tent), a wood-burning stove, storage, rugs, bed-side tables and chairs, a cooking box with equipment and utensils, plus a free box of logs to get you started. Campfires are allowed on the campsite but must be in knee high firepits (wood, kindling and fire lighters are sold on site, though you can also bring your own – scavenging wood from around the farm and surrounding areas is not permitted). It's best to book the firepits and grills in advance if you want one, as there is a limited supply (these are included with the bell tents). Free basic WiFi and a faster version available (50p–£1 per day; multi-day discounts available). Small farm shop with honesty box, selling meat, cakes and treats, and eggs.
Tents, campervans, motorhomes, small to medium caravans, hikers, families, couples, dogs (on a lead at all times) – yes.
Vehicles under 7.5m - yes.
Quiet campers, no noise after 10pm - yes.
Amplified music – no.
Quiet acoustic music, played well of course - yes.
Large groups, including large family groups - no.
It's a 5-minute walk into the village, where there are two good pubs (see Food & Drink), a medieval church and a playing field with a playground and tennis court. Carry on and you quickly hit the Monsal Trail, a popular, car-free trail that runs along the former Midland Railway line for 8½ miles between Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale and Coombs Road, at Bakewell. The route takes you through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales – bring bikes to make the most of it – with a handful of dramatic tunnels along the way (lighting throughout). Headstone Tunnel and a beautiful bridge across the River Wye are just a mile from the campsite and make up one of the most spectacular bits of the route. The Derbyshire Dales National Nature Reserve is also just up the valley, while 3 miles downstream is the village of Bakewell, famous for its tasty tarts but also a hive of independent shops and outlets that are worth nosing around. It's 5 miles to Chatsworth House (024 6565 300), which took almost 200 years to build and is well known from such films as Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess, and the same distance to medieval Haddon Hall (01629 812855) via Bakewell.
Food & Drink
The campsite has a small shop that sells the farm's own meats, eggs, cakes and treats, while the village is also host to a local shop and 3 great pubs, The Crispin Inn (01629 640237; bar full of trinkets and well-kept ales and a good beer garden) and The White Lion (01629 640252; a more modern feel), both just a 5–10-minute walk down Moor Road. In the opposite direction, The Packhorse Inn (01629 640471; ales on tap from Bakewell's Thornbridge Brewery and a cracking location) in Little Longstone can be reached via a combination of footpath and a short distance on road. If you're going to the Monsal Trail and the Monsal Head bridge, there's a popular bar in The Monsal Head Hotel (01629 640250;) and also a café – Hobbs Café (01629 640346) – both about 1 mile from the campsite by the Monsal Head car park.

Top notch site
All boxes ticked, very friendly, immaculate facilities, central for great walks, cycling and places of interest. Oh! 3 great pubs within easy walking distance, serving great beer and food.
Our first time in a rented motorhome. Stayed 3 nights here. Facilties were the best we come across in our 2 weeks travelling. Superb clean, warm ( weather changed to wet and windy). I have a fractured kneecap requiring a full leg plaster so had to use the family/disabled facilities which were fantastic. Staff really helpful too.
First time camping in a yurt and we loved it, so clean, cosy and equipped with everything we needed to cook and make hot drinks. The campsite was peaceful with beautiful views and the toilet/shower block was absolutely pristine. All this within walking distance of some great pubs too, winner! We will be back next year thank you!
One of the best UK sites
This was our second stay there this year and it was just as perfect as the 1st! We celebrated our 20th anniversary there this year due to travel restrictions and we had a fantastic time.the site is perfectly positioned to access and explore the peak district,it was always spotless and so quiet. Even the local wildlife were friendly we had the farm cat a hedgehog and a barn owl all visit showing how rural and perfect the site is.if you want to get away from it all and just enjoy nature surrounded by others who want the same this is the site to pick. The owners were always friendly and helpful we will return there next year again. Highly recommended to anyone but not too many or we may not get in again....a gem in a beautiful county.
A Great Site
We had a 4 night stay at Dale Farm in September - an absolutely lovely campsite with the best facilities that we have ever seen whilst camping around the uk. The unisex toilet block was immaculate with high quality fixtures, excellent showers and cubicles and never felt too busy. Very friendly and quiet site with good access to local pubs, shops and the Monsal Trail. Highly recommended site that we intend to return to next year. Lots to do in the local area, the Monsal Trail is flat if you want to cycle and beautiful scenery!
One of the Best Campsites!
We were at Dale Farm for 11 nights and enjoyed every moment. Well organised, meticulously clean, spacious and so very quiet and peaceful. The owners are friendly and helpful, the Farm Shop is well stocked, wonderful walking and cycling routes all around, loads of quaint little villages and some bigger towns close by should you need to stock up. Highly recommend and would love to go back again soon.
A fantastic rural setting with amazing views
Dale Farm has it all, incredible views, first class shower facilities and a farm shop for supplies. We loved the fact that we could rent a fire pit for a minimal charge and could buy fresh eggs for breakfast. Hubby was estatic that there were 3 pubs in walking distance and we were very sorry that we were only staying one night en-route to Yorkshire. We will definitely be back!
What a find!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dale Farm and found the facilities to be excellent and very clean. We felt so at home there, after four days we didn't want to leave! As lovely as the site is, for us the best thing about it was the location. Situated just on the edge of the village, its incredible peaceful and offers wonderful views, whilst having plenty to do within walking or cycling distance, including the Monsal Trail for easier cyling routes, Bakewell, and stunning views from Monsal Head. There are three pubs within a short walk and many more at a slightly longer walk or cycle away (We had excellent meals at The Packhorse and The Bull at Ashford in the Water) as well as tea rooms and village shops. We highly recommend Dale Farm and hope to return soon!
Marvellous location and exceptionally well-organised.
Great location- near walking and cycling routes, and three good/great pubs as well as a cafe. Exceptionally clean and meticulously well-organised. It’s a small site and on a hill so denser than some and no doubt that’s why there are lots of reminders about not making too much noise etc. As a result it’s very peaceful.
Best Campsite Ever!
What a wonderful place. The owners are super friendly, the site is well kept, plots are spacious and quiet, facilities are immaculately clean, plentiful hot water and the products available in the shop delicious!
We liked everything about this site. The staff, the facilities, the location, just as you wanted it. All campsites should be this good. New facilities that work just as they should. Friendly, beautiful location. Just perfect. Promise you won't be disappointed....I agree with a review I read that really wanted to put people off so that they could keep the secret to themselves but it's too good not to want them to do well. Other sites take note. This is camping done properly
Pretty, great facilities and great location
There were lots of plus points for this site: clean, warm and plentiful facilities (although lacking in soap on occasions); large pitches separated by trees and wild flowers; a great location to access all the Peak District has to offer; within walking distance of lovely pubs; peaceful, relaxing and campfires allowed; good recycling facilities; and friendly owners, who provide lots of information on the local area. The shop sold lovely meat, eggs and cakes; although, we would have found it useful if it had stocked a few more essentials such as milk and cheese, but I guess we should have been more organised 😏. The reasons we haven't given it five stars are because for us the way the site was laid out made it feel a bit cramped - there was no open area to play. Having said that, the pitches were large enough to set up a badminton net and play volleyball or badminton. It was also very expensive compared to some sites with everything costing extra. I'm not sure why you have to pay extra for a gazebo. We have stayed at lovely sites where you pay for your pitch and the number of guests but that's it. It is then your choice as to whether you use a large tent, or a smaller one and a gazebo. It is also nice when fire pits are lent to you, and you just have to pay for the wood; at Mena Farm this was another additional cost. It is however a lovely site in a great location.
We visited for a long weekend last summer with our two children (8 & 5) and decided to return this year for a week because we were so impressed (we don’t usually visit the same place twice as there are so many places to explore). It really is the perfect, peaceful base to explore the Peaks from. The toilet/shower block was as immaculate as we found it last year (saw it being cleaned at 6.30am, during the day and late at night) and there are plenty of showers. Appreciate being able to recycle waste on site and a short walk to buy fresh milk from the dairy farm in Church Lane (take coins). The Chatsworth Estate farm shop is only a 10 minute drive away to pick up many locally sourced provisions and to buy a coffee if you’re craving one! Should we decide to return to the area in the future this is definitely where we’ll be staying.
Great facilities Felt secluded but met some lovely people Good pubs within walking distance Magnificant walks Sheep's were loud but enjoyed their ba ba ba-ING Will deffo come back again
Great campsite, fantastic facilities
We spent a wonderful 3 nights at Dale Farm. We were greeted on arrival by the Friendly staff who directed us to our pitch and told us about the site and the local area. The pitches are spacious and well spread out, the location is perfect. We've stayed on a number of campsites and Dale Farm's facilities in the sheep dip are by far the best of any we've seen, clean and fresh and no queuing for showers, toilets or pot wash. The local area has wonderful walks and you can do loads without having to get in the car, monsal head was a highlight. There is a great kids play park in the village, a 10 minute walk away and we had a nice meal in the white lion. We would recommend Dale Farm and would definitely return.
Would definitely recommend
We’ve just returned from 4 nights in the secluded bell tent. Pretty much everything was there that we needed, lovely having the log burner, made it so cosy. Loved that we had a fire pit/bbq provided. Absolutely stunning views and the showers/toilets are the best we’ve ever used, always clean and tidy. Will definitely be coming back either on a pitch it in the bell tent.
Small but perfectly formed
We spent one night at the site. The pitches are on terraces on the sloped field, which provides lovely views from the site of the surrounding hills. The farm shop is great. Being able to hire a fire pit is really fun. The 'Sheep dip' (toilet, shower, washing block) was exceptionally clean. It was nice to be located on a working farm. The only down side is that there is limited space for kids to run around, but in the village nearby (5-10 mins walk) there is a good park and field for ball games, also two lovely pubs. I highly recommend this site.
Quiet and clean
Overall we had a lovely stay at Dale farm, the owners were pleasant and greeted us when we arrived. Toilet and shower blocks were the cleanest I’ve ever seen at a campsite and we liked the extra touches with the blackboard and maps. Nice pitch sizes, great views from the top of the hill and private with borders separating you from neighbours, although most of the grass pitches don’t have a lot of grass left where you want your tent to go! Great location to get out and explore on foot, without having to take the car out. Our only disappointment was our next-door neighbours playing loud music all afternoon and evening one day, it really disturbed the peace of the “no amplified music campsite” for us and sadly nothing was done about it by the owners. Would still stay again despite this disturbance as otherwise no complaints!
This was the best campsite for my first experience with camping, staff were helpful and friendly and the facilities were everything I could’ve asked for. Surrounded by beautiful walks and views with amazing food from the farm shop! Would definitely visit again.
It's a lovely little campsite, Not too big but doesn't feel small or cramped, each pitch is quite large. I had a hilltop pitch with a friend and we had a lovely view sitting in the afternoon chatting and eating dinner. The toilet/shower block is the cleanest and best equipped I've ever seen, lovely showers which were well appreciated as it was about 28 degrees most the time we were there. The block also has a table which would be useful for sitting and planning routes if it was raining and your tent was a bit cramped. The site is very close to both Monsal Head and the Monsal Trail, we did a day walk through Monsal Dale, under the viaduct and round the valley into Bakewell, then back along the trail. Staff were very helpful, would heavily recommend.
We'll be back!
A delightfully peaceful, welcoming site with outstanding facilities. We enjoyed excellent walks in the area and delicious meat from the farm shop. Dale Farm is definitely one of our 'go to' holiday destinations from now on.
Fantastic Campsite and Location
The campsite was amazing, and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming, recommending local spots for hiking and swimming. We were on a hilltop pitch with a beautiful view. Local cycling, hiking were great and would recommend Hassop Station cafe for breakfast! Thank you very much, a great place to base yourself to explore the southern peaks.
We spent 2 nights with electric hook up on a hillside pitch and it was perfect. So much to do from the camp site and the facilities were immaculate. We have booked again already for next year. Can’t wait to be back!
Fabulous flat spacious electric pitch. Excellent location.
Small site that has invested in their fantastic location to provide an excellent campsite. Village shop and 3 pubs in easy walking distance. The sheep dip shower, toilet & washing up facilities were well designed and unusual in the fact that they were unisex... Ideal as it stopped the usual ladies over full showers and mens half empty.... Also a family/disabled facility. These were kept spotless by the hard working team and powered by solar panels. Fire pits hired were a great size and enabled us to sit out longer stargazing. Walk behind the farm to the Moor was spectacular. Many of the other campers were returning to the site - and it was clear to see why. A beautiful place run by hard working people who are passionate about running their farm and their campsite well. We will be back. Thank you.
Such a perfect site
We had a really great time staying here, the owners were very welcoming and great camping facilities with plenty of space. We chose this site as it was central to where we wanted to cycle. Such a great find thank you x
Beautiful and well located
Walking distance to 3/4 pubs, lovely local walks, super friendly owners, brand new and impeccably maintained facilities. A top site. We’ll visit again when we’re in the area.
Peaceful and tranquil site
We enjoyed the calm quiet site. Each pitch was surrounded by its own hedge/flowers, bushes or trees and well spaced. The shower/toilet facilities were second to none. I loved the background radio playing, it’s shared mixed sex facilities and it was immaculate. We thought the male host could have been more friendly. He didn’t smile or greet us, and he walked up and down staring at customers in a surly manner. It made us feel uncomfortable. Nick the owner was super friendly and welcoming. Overall a lovely experience nd we’d stay again.
They have though of everything!
Spent three nights on this site. The sheep dip ablution block was so clean and modern, showers were wonderful! The owners have thought of everything! There are OS maps and walls of information of hikes, bike rides, and even pubs/restaurants/takeouts in the nearby area. The farm shop has everything one might forget on holiday; firelighters, matches, wood, charcoal, etc. You can purchase meat from the farm shop, which I would recommend. The beef burgers were amazing! Do make sure to greet the kitty that watches the shop while her owners are out. Every pitch has borders of wildflowers that give a little privacy from the pitch next to you, which I loved! The pitches are also of a very good size, with ample room to spread out. Over all this campsite was amazing and I will definitely be returning.
Great camping experience
We have stayed at Dale Farm campsite three times now and love it. The campsite is quiet and extremely well organised. The facilities are some of the best that I have seen on a small camp. There is a lovely calm and peaceful atmosphere on this site and we will return again this year.
An absolutely brilliant campsite in a fantastic location with spotless, modern facilities. I had a friendly welcome on arrival and felt very safe as a solo traveller at this lovely spot. Great pubs within walking and cycling distance, amazing walks on the door/tent step and a perfect location for the Monsal Trail. Thank you!
Fantastic site in a great spot
I took 2 friends who have never visited the Peak District and have never camped, spent two nights in the secluded bell tent (of which two are available to purchase. The tent & site had everything you could ask for, facilities are some of the best I've seen at a campsite (especially considering the size) and the proximity to Bakewell & sights in the peak district was brilliant for us. Already recommended this place to friends & would come back if ever visiting the Peak District again.
Cosy clean and affordable
Booked a last minute mid week break to try out our new tent. Loved the site and the rustic nature of it. The area is beautiful and the walks that the owners recommended though the information pack were super. Will be back again very soon
Just a great site
A great site staff very helpful and some good walks
Great campsite, friendly staff, excellent location
Stayed here for three nights with my son. Campfires allowed which was great. Farm shop food was really good. Amenities block was clean and the site was quiet. Good location to walk from, and near to many peak district attractions.
Great little site in an excellent location
We stayed here in half term and it's a great little site in the peak District. Walkable distance to so many things to see and do with 3 excellent pubs in 5 minutes. The facilities are excellent with clean toilets and showers in a brand new block. Pitches are into the side of the hill but all level. Would definitely come back
Best Campsite I've stayed at!!
We have just returned from 5 days at Dale Farm. What a beautiful spot - perfect for a quiet getaway. Fantastic walking and cycling - once the van and awning was set up - there was no need to drive anywhere. The pitches were a great size and the facilities were fantastic! Everything has been thought out very carefully and there was lots of local information and help if needed. We were made to feel very welcome. We hired a BBQ/ log burner and bought steaks and delicious homemade cakes from the farm shop. Just perfect !! The village of Great Longstone has some great pubs and a little shop. It is close to the Monsal Trail, not far from Bakewell and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. We will definitely visit again. Thank you so much!!
Really nice small site, great facilities ran by a lovely couple
Lovely little site in a beautiful little village. Great views, clean and smart facilities with the owners giving plenty of info on the area. Definitely coming back
Lovely quiet site
A perfectly situated site with lovely large pitches and state of the art new toilet/shower amenity block. Very peaceful and relaxing. Best suited to camper vans and small/medium motorhomes, as access can be a little tight for larger vehicles. There is a huge amount to do in the area (particularly for walkers and cyclists) and the two local villages provide evening entertainment in the form of four pubs within easy walking distance. One thing to bear in mind is that you cannot dispose of chemical waste if you use the standard blue fluid in your toilet cassette, as it is not compatible with the organic ‘reed bed’ septic tank system. This can be tricky if you don’t know in advance, as most will have added fluid after the last empty. Organic fluid can be purchased on site, though. We had a lovely stay and found everyone very friendly. A great find.
This was only our second outing in our new (to us) T6, the maiden voyage was a month earlier with caravanning friends that had anything we needed with them, so this was the first solo outing. After the short hour or so drive from Manchester in the T6 we were gliding through the beautiful Peak District and on to Great Longstone. Access to the site was ok in the bus but I certainly can’t imagine doing it towing a half descent size caravan, it’s a little tight. When we arrived on site we were met by a lovely couple taking care of things, they provided us with all the information we needed and directed us our pitch (also helped us hooking up the electric) and the immaculate toilet/shower block. After getting settled we had a table booked at the local Packhorse Pub just a 5-10min walk from site. The food was great with a good selection of fine ales too, although due to restrictions we were outside but in a delightful covered, heated and very comfortable rear area of the pub, this didn’t stop us spending a good few of the evening hours here. Day2 we were off on our travels, a short walk to the Monsal Trail where we headed along to Bakewell just about 3 miles away. Monday was market day so we picked up some good artisan pastries and had a good look around the lovely town while enjoying a few more ales. The walk back to site took us full circle through the beautiful little village of Ashford in the Water with a quaint village pub called The Bulls Head. Day3 We took the bus over to Castleton for a walk up Mam Tor. Not a challenging walk but a couple of hours well spent working off the artisan pastries from the day before!! The views from the top of Mam Tor are spectacular over looking Castleton & Hope valley. From the peak it was a few more ales well catered for outside the George pub. Day3 Home time, after a good chat and a thanks for everything with the site runners we were back in the bus back to Manchester with great memories of Dale farm.
Chilled atmosphere in a great location
Large pitch offered a good amount of privacy, facilities were clean and functional despite coronavirus restrictions, decent pubs and great walks in the area. The ability to hire a fire pit with a grill, buy wood and charcoal and fresh eggs/meat at the farm shop is an added bonus!
Best Campsite we have found in the Peaks
We stayed in the last week of the season in Benny our Campervan. We booked and all weather hillside pitch and we definately tested the all weather element. Our stay was for 5 nights over half term 2020.The weather was terrible.Winds gusting up to 40 MPH and torrential rain. The pitches are extremely large (some smaller than others and a few would have been too small to get our awning up driven on straight and given the weather we didn't want to be doing 3 point turns on the pitch). We selected a lower pitch by the Sheep Dip and teh grass was underlayed with a hard plastic netting to ensure we could drive on and off even with the conditions. The electric hook up was at the back of the pitch and faultless, between every other pitch is a water point for drinking water. The facilities (Sheep Dip) were spotless throughout, there is an are outside with local information, weather updated daily and some benches. Toilet disposal is in a side door and spotless. There is also a motorhome service point to drop grey water and refill hose as well as a boot / dog wash point (we definately needed this). Inside there is a large pan wash area, disabled facilites, 6 large, hot showers and 7 toilets. All spotless and working perfectly. The site is quite small and the pitches large and well separated with excellent views south towards Bakewell, east towards Curber Edge and west towards Monsal Head. To the North is Longstone Edge (very close) and we managed to see a murmation of Starlings one evening between the storms. There is a fantastic farm shop that stock thier own meat and tray bakes fresh daily. We would highly reccomend the Hogget and lamb and if they are anythig to go by the rest of thier meat also. The shop works on an honesty basis so bting cash or have Paypal on your phone ready. The phone signal is great on EE (we streamed the F1 and another program during the week), the site also has Wifi. A fantastic site we would highly reccomend.
Fantastic find in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales
A lovely small site in a beautiful location, good sized pitch for our Campervan and awning. The Sheep Dip facilities were very clean, great showers and washing up facilities - a mirror and hairdryer/straightners plug point would have be a good addition. We hired a firepit and pre ordered wood and kindling which was lovely on an October evening. We will be back - thank you :)
excellent stay and cute farm cat
Had a great stay at Dale Farm Campsite. The location is great with lots of good walks nearby. Best toilets I've ever seen at a Campsite and super clean. The pitches were big enough for a large tent, car and firepit and still felt very spacious. The farm shop was also helpful!
Excellent location, brilliant site
Weekend jaunt to the peak District, as described close to the pubs close to the walks and trails. What more could be wanted! Easy check in Facilities block is very very clean, modern fresh environment. Quiet site no disturbances Very friendly staff
Such a lovely campsite with incredible views. Toilets, showers and washing up facilities are incredibly clean. Such a warm welcome and easy check-in! Wonderful pubs in Great Longstone only a 5 min walk away. Just absolutely wonderful. Would recommend 100x over!
We wanted a last weekend break before putting our Opus Air Trailer Tent away for the weekend & we could not have picked a better camp site ! After a 40 minute drive from home we were greeted by a very friendly lady who showed us to our hillside pitch & explained about the site. Our pitch was excellent with lovely views. The washrooms & showers were immaculate & everything in them including the wash up areas had been so well planned. The location was perfect, we walked to the Pack Horse on Friday evening & had a great meal. And on Saturday spent the day at Chatsworth. It was a great last weekend away at a fabulous camp site. Shame about the weather!!
Wow, what a fablous site.
Lovely site, everything you need & more, easy no hassle check-in, given a choice of pitches which is always a plus. The elevated ones are very spacious and have fantastic views, yes its a working farm, but this does not intrude onto the campsite, its nice to see the highland cows in field next door. Fire pit rental & wood at very reasonable prices, including grill to make into BBQ, makes for a lovely evening sitting out under the stars.. the facilities brand new and very modern, heated & clean. The farm shop is a must visit, great treats & meat for sale, we stocked up on departure to bring home some treats, the small BBQ packs great idea too. Great access to many peak district attractions, down the road from Chatsworth, we walked to Monsal Head, you can access the whole trail from here, bike track looks good too. Down the lane is a 5min walk into the village which has 2 pubs & small shop, also bus stop, got the bus into Castleton for a day out, nice 40min ride. This is a quite site and gives you a real chance to kick back & relax away from all the morden life stresses, reminds me of the old camping days around a fire & staying outside as much as possible, didn't want to leave, will definitely return.
lovely setting. great facilities.
We had a lovely stay at Dale Farm The campsite is beautifully situated, and thoughtfully laid out. The “sheep dip” (showers / toilets/ etc) provides spectacularly immaculate facilies! Great options for walks directly from the site. We look forward to further visits.
Great site in a perfect location
Great short stay for the first time in this great little site. Superb facilities and a setting in the most perfect location.
Perfect camping trip
Wonderful views, perfect location - not too far to walk into the village. Also walking distance to pubs, Monsal Head The owners are very friendly and sent out a guide the week before. Tip - double check the opening times of village shop/pubs Extremely clean new amenities and felt very safe using them during this time. They were always being cleaned, lots of loos and showers! Handy farm shop, the most delicious brownies were for sale. Who ever makes them should apply for the Great British Bake Off
Great site, wonderful views and spotless facilities
We spent a great week at the Dale Farm Campsite. The site is in a wonderful location, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. We used the site as a base to travel out on a daily basis to the Blue John Caverns, Bakewell and Dovedale, safe in the knowledge that our belongings were safe as the site is covered by CCTV. The free gift of a one month OSmaps app was also welcome. The sites facilities were spotless, and cleaned thoroughly daily. Plenty of showers and toilets and washing facilities all in a bright and warm purpose built block. We will be coming back.
Wonderful to return to a quiet site and huddle round our own campfire after a day’s walking
The day before we arrived we received an email telling us of the campsite and helpful information for planning our stay. We received a very warm greeting on arrival. The site was busy but not noisy. We felt relaxed and safe with the Covid arrangements in place. We made use of the Online OS facility which was handy for our longer walks. WIFI was handy to have too. It was a treat to be able to enjoy a night cap around our own campfire at the end of the day. The only thing I regret is that I wasn’t organised enough to stock up on their wonderful farm produce sold at their shop before I departed. Wonderful- wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to return
Fantastic site, impeccably clean, fantastic views
The campsite is in a beautiful location. The site is very well maintained with impeccably clean and modern facilities. Nice little farm shop which sells mainly meat and eggs. They were shearing the sheep whilst we visited adding that 'on the farm' experience. I wouldnt recommend the site for people with children who want to kick a ball about or throw a Frisby as there isn't the space to do that. Couples or families with older children will find it perfect. We were also blessed with sunshine which always helps.
My first camping trip was fantastic!
We really enjoyed our stay at Dale Farm. Being my first camping trip I was a bit unsure of how I’d find the whole experience, but I loved it and would definitely go again! I just hope that wherever we decide to go camping next will be as clean and tidy as Dale Farm and as well situated!
Clean, friendly and well set up (a touch expensive)
We were on an all weather grass pitch with a hook-up. It was easy to find our spot when we arrived and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The pitch was very large and fairly level. We didn’t read about the green toilet fluid on the e-mail (we’re newbys🙈) before we came but the facilities were excellent (modern, fresh, clean, bright and spacious) and they were being cleaned constantly (felt really safe), so we didn’t bother to unpack our loo! There was green fluid available in the farm shop on site if needed. The village was beautiful and had a couple of good pubs, a gorgeous play area and a cracking little local shop. All the people we met on the site and around the village were delightful! It was our first time out in our camper van and although the site was expensive, they certainly had earned every penny. Would definitely recommend for a first timer! Even the noisy crows in the trees shut up well before dark and didn’t kick back in till after breakfast (very thoughtful of them)
Site cramped and not cleaned regularly
Online the site looks great but the reality of staying there was not great. Site was too cramped for the number of people staying onsite especially during COVID-19. Bathrooms and toilets are shared with men and women which is not great and toilets are cleaned once a day which is not enough for the number of people staying onsite and especially during COVID-19. You would expect the site to be kept and cleaned more often during COVID-19. The taps are push button operated and run for about 10 seconds so you have to consistently push the button every 10 seconds to have a shower or to use the kitchen sink which is not ideal or comfortable. I’ve been to other sites and it’s run by friendly owners not once did the owners or management acknowledge our stay or existence but if you are looking for a place with no service then this is the place for you.
Over the years I’ve stopped at a great many sites and this is right up there with the best. It’s a wonderful combination of modern and traditional. No nonsense well looked after farm pitches, but with plentiful, clean wash and bathroom facilities. The only thing it’s really missing is a laundry and drying area, but you can forgive it that as the rest is so good! The location is great, very close to so many places of interest. I would definitely stop at this site again!
This is a great site with well laid out decent size pitches and a warm welcome. The toilets and showers are spotless and where else do they have the radio playing on speakers in the ceiling to keep you entertained! The fact that you can walk from the site to three pubs is just a bonus.
Brilliant break, all weather pitches (we survived storm Francis!) New toilet block - kept amazingly clean. Farm shop for basic essentials. Surrounded by farms - team running it were really Friendly. Will book again 👍
Fantastic Break, Great Location!
We booked a last minute break to Dale farm and it didn’t disappoint! The views from the campsite are stunning, the pitches are on a hill but have been levelled out which is so amazing, and the hosts Joanna and Nick were fantastic! We were greeted on arrival and given a map of the site and possible walks from the camp. I’d highly recommend visiting this site and we will definitely be back again!
A peaceful and well-run campsite in a stunning location
We were two families of four staying in the secluded bell tents in the glamping field at the top of the hill. It was a peaceful and stunning setting for our two night stay. The facilities were fantastic - a clean toilet, rubbish/recycling area and water supply at the top of the hill, and then a gleaming purpose-built washing facility at the bottom - with washing up sinks, showers and loos. All spotlessly clean and despite the campsite being fully booked, there were never any queues which was especially nice given the current climate! The bell tents were really comfortable with a king size bed for the adults and two single mattresses for the kids. There was a double electric hob, kettle and multiplug adapter so we could charge our phones. There was a basic set of kitchen equipment - pots/pans (cast iron and v heavy) and cutlery, plates, cups, bowls, sharp knife and chopping board and washing up bowl. Log burning stove inside (we didn’t use it coz of the hot weather) but did use the raised fire pit which was lovely. The tent was lit at night with cute fairy lights and there were also solar lights which had sensors on for those late night loo visits! It was the perfect place to relax and catch up with friends outdoors, and also to explore the beautiful surroundings. We went for a paddle in the river at Ashford, walked the Monsal Trail, mooched about in Bakewell and had a slap-up meal at the Crispin pub in Great Longstone (we booked a covered table outside In their beer garden a couple of days in advance - Eat Out To Help Out made it pretty cheap too!) I would definitely recommend Dale Farm if you love a bit of peace & quiet away from the crowds. It’s def not a party site for big groups. It’s really tranquil & mellow. Be ready for the hill though - it’s quite a climb to the Glamping field!
Lovely relaxing site
Lovely and quite site freindly owners and very clean will defiantly come back
This was an amazing campsite. The facilities were simple but clean and everything you needed was available. I loved the separated pitches which gave our children the area they could play. The recommendations on the email before we came helped loads. The campsite is friendly and quiet. Just perfect, changed my camping experience. Perfect place to base yourself for all the joys of Derbyshire, thank you
The washing facilities were the best I’ve seen on a campsite. They were cleaned often and kept immaculate.
Lovely little campsite
Dale Farm is a nice small campsite with excellent shower and toilet facilities that were spotless on our visit. The campsite feels very well thought out with the 'little things' such as plenty of water points and bins next to the washing up sinks. Another thing was there was plenty of recycling bins and they were in easy-to-access places. The campsite is on a bit of a hill so having recycling bins at the top and bottom was very helpful. There is also a little toilet separate from the main block at the top of the hill which is good when your tent is at the top! The pitches were flat and large so was plenty of space for each family/group. The location of the campsite was good with easy access to the Monsal trail and thus Bakewell via bike. There is an Aldi 10mins drive down the road also which was handy. The owners of the campsite were very friendly and approachable for any concerns etc. All in all, I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a campsite in the Peak District! 5*
Beautiful location, quiet and peaceful
We stayed in one of the bell tents for 4 nights in July. It was a beautiful setting, and the tent was well equipped. The picnic table was useful and the stove (for the couple of rainy nights) made the tent lovely and cosy. The beds were super comfy too. There was loads to do nearby and the owner’s recommendations for places to eat were tip top.
Beautiful location and fantastic facilities
I stayed here three nights in July. The site is in a great location. One part of it is on a slope with generous terraced grass pitches on either side of a gravel driveway. At the top is a gateway leading to a field with space for four tents as well as two fixed glamping type tents slightly higher on the hill. The view from the top is over rolling hills with cows in fields on at least two sides. I stayed in one of these pitches. They get the beautiful evening sunlight. The usual amenities for campers - showers, wcs and washing up are in a newly refurbished or rebuilt large barn. This is stunningly clean, bright and new and was a pleasure to use. The owners are friendly and flexible. I'd highly recommend for families and small groups (in the terraced plots) or for single travellers or those travelling with partners - (ideal for up in the top field).
Excellent location, Great facilities
In a beautiful location this is a very friendly campsite. The new shower/toilet block is outstanding and has been very well designed. We enjoyed a great few days here. and would thoroughly recommend it.
A great little campsite. We had an excellent stay here in July. The site is very quiet and the communal facilities look brand new and are kept clean. A good break all round!
Very quiet site with spotless facilities
Wasnt sure what to expect in current climate but this site was lovely. Very quiet at night so not for the stay up late crowd but I loved the peace. Brand new facilities are spotless couldn't fault them. Great base for hiking and Bakewell nearby is a beautiful town . Would definitely go again
Friendly, welcoming and spotless
Well-marked spacious pitches with lovely views. Great to be able to hire a fire-pit, wood, grill and charcoal for bbq. The meat from their own farm-shop was exceptional. The cakes were equally as divine. The wash-block was outstanding: spotlessly clean and plenty of room in the showers. Nick and Joanna were really friendly and interested in helping us decide our cycle route. Would love to return.
Me and my friend Lewis had a lovely time at Dale Farm. Nick was very friendly and greeted us in the morning and told us all we needed to know about the local area. The campsite has everything you need! A good two nights away from the hustle and bustle of London. Thank you
Amazing first camping trip!
It took quite a bit of convincing to get my girlfriend to go on a camping trip but I can now confirm she loves it! Dale Farm was perfect for us, with excellent facilities, good walks and pubs within close proximity to the site and the rest of the Peak District a short drive away. We particularly enjoyed sitting by the fire pit in the evenings watching the sky change colour and the stars emerge. We would highly recommend and can not wait to return! Thank you!
A very pleasant clean site
Nick and Joanna have a real gem of a site here. The pitches are a great size and well thought out. All within a reasonable distance of the new ‘sheep dip’ washrooms. Washrooms is an understatement, they are brand new toilets, showers and washing up facilities. There is an on-site farm shop offering meat from the farm which can then be cooked on your fire pit grill (£4 hire per night). The location is also great, great location pubs, walks and even bike hire at Hassop Station provide great options. We will be staying again and cannot recommend the site enough.
Lovely place to camp
The new facilities block (the 'sheep dip') was sparkling clean and warm. Hot showers and lots of loos and washing up facilities. Pitches were a good size. We had a tent pitch without electric. Lovely fellow campers all enjoying the outdoors and the splendid views. The proprietors are nice people and very helpful from the moment we arrived. The site is within easy reach of Longstone Edge (fantastic walk and views from the top), Monsall Head (ditto) and for the mad cyclists, there's a hill called Cressbrook which will test the strongest riders. We will definitely be booking another trip here soon.
Fantastic place, fantastic hosts, fantastic views.
This place is great, I can't believe some of the other grumpy reviews I've read on here. So the site has rules and signs, doesn't this help inform and make our stay more pleasant? I've stayed at campsites before with no rules or information and they were not nice places. This place was clean, friendly, well organised and very well situated for walks, cycling and many other activities. Don't let grumpy nit pickers affect you! Dale Farm is a real gem of a campsite. We will be back soon.
An enjoyable stay
The campsite was easy to get to. We were pitched in the adult only field which was separated from the rest of the site by trees, which made it nice and secluded. Owners were very friendly and if there were any issues at all, they were happy for you to knock on the farm door. The site is within easy access of the Monsal Trail and this made getting about both easy and fun when on our bikes. The sheep are quite noisy in the morning, but what else can you expect when camping on a working farm. This just added to the experience and the animals were nice to watch. The only downsides, and therefore the reason I have given 4, rather than 5 stars, is having to pay for showers. There was also no warning when the time was about to run out. There was also a limit of 2 people per pitch, which I did not really understand. We booked 2 pitches for 4 of us, but actually, both tents would have fit in the one pitch without issue. Overall, we would be happy to return.
Expensive with below average facilities.
Although well situated for the Peak District, my wife and I found the site expensive considering the below average facilities. If one was a bit "on the plump side", you would find the toilets rather cramped. The showers likewise and had to be paid for on top of this. Lots of petty site rules, including the banning of disposable BBQ's(For whatever reason I do not know as the fire blocks provided would have been perfect for using with said BBQ's). On the plus side, site owners very friendly and helpful but sadly would not use this site again.
Response from Dale Farm Rural Campsite
Thank you for your review Tony, sorry you didn't like our old facilities. Fortunately after your visit we started building a brand new purpose built washblock which should address all of your concerns. Regarding disposable BBQ's we've had number of people burning our grass and damaging benches with them so I don't feel banning them to be "petty", they are also not very eco-friendly. Having said that the concrete blocks on each pitch have been introduced recently (after we had our signage made) so provided these are use there shouldn't be a problem.
Please remember that rules are there for you as well as us, we would like your stay to be comfortable and our livelihood to be protected for future visitors. Obviously if you'd have spoken to us about any of these points we could have saved you the time writing this and you might have even given us more stars, oh well. All the best, the dale farm team.
We enjoyed 6 days of camping at Dale Farm, which was quiet and peaceful, with a pretty view into the hills from our spot. Many attractions and activities are close by; you can start your hike right at the site; pubs are not far; farm shop is convenient. The facilities were clean and the couple that runs the place are very friendly. We'd give this site five stars if there were facilities to freeze an ice pack or even use a washing machine - but it seems the owners are going to upgrade the facilities next year.
Not worth £26 per night
We stayed in EHU touring pitch with a 7m motorhome in a Good sized pitch. However despite lovely rural location the view from the pitches was either old farm buildings or other campers. Not much separation or attempt to provide a nice view. Despite owners insistence on peace and quiet they still drove their farm machinery up and down the road in between the pitches all day long Not enough toilets and showers One of showers had payment box on outside so you had to pay for getting dressed?! The arrival time is 2pm and leaving time is 11am. Why? this isnt anywhere near a full day and I noticed that some tent owners looked quite stressed trying to meet the deadline (especially if they needed a shower!) All in all it was average and I wouldn't stay there again. We wanted to cycle down the Monsal Trail. Park House up the road looks better for the money, has a lovely view and is 2 mins from Monsal Head
OK but with some reservations
Generally OK but seems a bit cheeky to charge extra (by the minute) for the showers and there were not enough accessible wash hand basins at busy times because these were all in the same spaces as the toilets
lovely campsite, well situated
The campsite is in a great location, good cycling and walking nearby as well as 3 pubs within walking distance. we were on the grass EHU pitches, which were separated and staggered up a slope. we had hoped for 2adjacent, but this could not be guaranteed as they are not pre allocated, it is ‘first come first served’. it meant we were not adjacent, bu5 the owner, Nick, suggested we both set up on the sane pitch as there 2 EHU points. This worked very well and there was plenty of room. We found the prices very reasonable and, and, as a result, did not mind the charges for the shower. Would like to see more hooks/shelves in the shower areas. Plenty of hot water and also washing up liquid and bowls are provided. Lovely to have campfires (reasonable charge) owners very friendly, would definitely stay again .
Lovely site, but difficult booking system on line and on arrival.
It was a lovely site and very pretty farm. But the online booking system was frustrating to manage. Lots of add on costs, like extra for a tent etc with camper van, which would have made sense if greedy campers might want to spread their stuff out with extra tents and awnings encroaching on others, but the pitches were within strict boundaries on stepped levels. On arrival we were met with a printed notice (one of many) with our names and pitch allocations. It took a bit of head scratching, but we did work out where we were supposed pitch. Another camper arrived and was quite frustrated to find out she’d booked the wrong sort of pitch, designated for just a tent and not a camper. Clearly she had similar issues with the booking system. We did meet the owners soon after getting settled in and they were welcoming and friendly. But this did not take away the negative effect of the rather passive aggressive notices they have pinned up. We got that they are busy farmers and don’t have time to manage the site like other larger campsites. Nevertheless, to be met with messages that essentially say, if anyone doesn’t like the way things are run they can bog off to one of these other campsites, is not very welcoming and gives the impression that their hearts aren’t totally into this side of their business. Coupled with the extra costs mentioned, and including having to pay for showers and fire pits etc added to the feeling that their attitude is a bit grabby and the experience of the camper not that important to them. Sorry be negative, but having had lovely stays in several other Cool Camping sites, where we experienced much more relaxed and friendly attitudes, I would urge the owners to rethink their approach. If they are not going to be willing and available to give a more personal touch to their customers, then simplify their booking system, get rid of the extra add ons, and rethink the very off putting notices.
Dale Farm is a well run, cute little campsite. The people who run it were super friendly and helpful. Drinking water, showers, toilets, all spotless and even a little shop offering good quality meat and local honey. The site was located a short walk to 4 pubs. The Packhorse offering good beer and exceptional food, The Crispin was trinket heaven and The White Lion has probably the best sausages I’ve ever had. We walked to Bakewell through the old train tunnels and went on the Thornbridge brewery tour. My first trip to the Peak District and I was not disappointed.
Lovely quiet site with beautiful views over the Peak District
We stayed at the top of the site in a glamping bell tent, with beautiful, far-reaching views. In the fields adjoining the children enjoyed watching sheep with their lambs, highland cattle, pheasants and rabbits. As promised by the website, the other campers were lovely and quiet after dark, so great for those wanting to slow down and escape the hustle and bustle of city or town life for a few days. Perfectly fine facilities for a camping trip and a lovely little farm shop. Great location for the Monsal Trail (we hired bikes on the trail) and visiting Chatsworth House. We feel very refreshed - thank you!
