A pebble’s throw from a beautiful lake, this is a campsite with traditional and luxury acommodatation, plus bundles of outdoor activities, and all just a leisurely stroll from one of England’s prettiest cities – what more could you want?

Whitlingham Broad Campsite is a relatively new campsite in a county with no shortage of magnificent spots to pitch up. Situated on the spacious 80-acre Country Park, this is both a useful gateway to the Broads, and a perfect base for exploring the medieval delights of Norfolk’s county capital.

The spacious grass pitches are spread over the upper and lower fields, with a magnificent new play area, completed in 2018, built on the slope in between. You can park up tent-side in the lower field while the upper is a car-free haven meaning there’s plenty of room for a run and a play (pooches are welcome too). There’s also a couple of fully furnished bell tents, a yurt, a shepherd’s huts and a converted railway waggon, with views over the country park towards the Great Broad.

The lure of the Broads is inescapable in this part of the world. With scores of visitors flocking to enjoy the wet and wild delights of Norfolk’s many navigable rivers and waterways, Whitlingham Broad is ideally situated to join in the fun. The park’s award-winning Outdoor Education Centre provides a host of activities including kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. And if you’d rather keep your feet strictly on terra firma there are countless scenic walks and bike rides to enjoy. Why not nip in to Norwich for the day to walk the café-dotted lanes and visit its grand Gothic cathedral?

A lovely week away

This was our first camping trip with our greyhound and we all really enjoyed our stay at Whitlingham. There was loads of space for the dog to run around, a lovely trail to follow along the river and close to Norwich for an evening meal out. The facilities on-site were great- toilets and showers were probably the cleanest I've ever seen at a campsite and we rented a firepit for two nights. The other campers were all lovely to chat with. It was a shame that the water activities nearby were shut due to Covid-19 restrictions, but there was still plenty to do in the area or a short drive away. We would definitely stay here again.
★★★☆☆

Great site and facilities but Covid-19 guidelines not followed

My first night with my grandson was ggreat. We hired a firepit and sat outside cooking. There were a couple in a tent a few metres away and a further campervan a few metres from that. However the 2nd night was very busy. There were 5 tents and 5 cars pitched very close together in the same spavce occupeid by the 2 units the night before. iIcounted at least 12 young people camping together whereas government guidelines are 6. The tent site was even busier with at least 6 tents with families all pitched close together near to the toilet block and the families socialising closely.

Lovely, super clean facilities, great playground, noisy location though, COVID affects activities nearby

We really enjoyed our stay at the campsite, the check in was easy, although it wasn't quite clear on arrival where the reception was. Kids absolutely loved the plaground. It was fabulous until the evening, when the older kids didn't go to bed till late and kept running past our tent to the playground. Possibly a sun-down lock up of the playground would help avoid that, although I realise it is probably a problem with all camp sites where parents do not monitor their kids enough not to be a nuisance. Be aware that there is a rail track just over the Broad and it is noisy at night with freight trains (presumably) running all through the night. On the plus side, you are very close to Norwich, washrooms are fantastic and [presumably] the sports available on the Broads are great. We went first weekend of September 2020 and due to COVID 19, nothing was available, no kayaking, no boat rides...

Great glamping experience

We stayed in the shepherds hut, it was cosy and beautiful, the wood burning stove gave out so much heat that we had to open the window. Comfortable bed and plenty of space for the 2 of us. It is about as far away as it was possible to be from the toilet block, but still only a minute or two,. We had dreadful weather, but the campsite was obviously well-defined as it never turned into the swamp I would have expected. Great place

Nice site

My first proper camping trip with my 2 teenage boys. It was nice to be able to choose where to pitch up and the toilet/shower facilities were excellent (with my limited experience). Most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I was so pleased I’d chosen a site with a small shop - this was a godsend, as was the fire pit on a very chilly first night! I don’t think I’d return though because there was some noise from the road and trains which are quite close by and I am light sleeper.

Perfect spot!

We have just returned from a long weekend camping at this lovely site. Aside from the rather appalling bank holiday weather which couldn’t have been helped, we had a fantastic stay. The facilities were spotless, and I mean spotless! We were so impressed by the cleanliness and Covid measures to keep us safe. The shop was ideal and we loved the Saturday street food. There were some noisy residents on the first night which kept many of us awake and the management swiftly dealt with the situation and asked them to leave. Would highly recommend!

good campsite

Have stayed twice here now everywhere clean and tidy especially toilets and shower rooms Perfect for families with children or lone campers

Great place

Really great place. We had one of the Bell tents for the bank holiday weekend (awful weather!). The facilities are excellent and kept very clean. The tent was well kitted out and comfortable.

Pitch up and chill out

This campsite has a great vibe; a relaxed, family and dog friendly space where you can pitch anywhere you like. It's a sheltered yet sunny site with lots of space for games, immaculate modern washrooms and a handy shop where you'll get great advice on trips and activities. There's a lovely spot to swim in the river only a few minutes' walk away, and it's not much further to the White Horse in Trowse Newton, which serves delicious food and ale. It's only half an hour from the coast - try the spacious sandy beach at Winterton-on-Sea. Overall, a big thumbs up!
★★★★★

Lovely family site

Plenty of space & good facilities including clean & modern showers etc, plus a good playground for kids. Lovely setting, close to a village with a couple of pubs & in a big park with swimming’s spots in streams.
★★★★★

Lovely relaxed site

Stayed recently at this lovely site in the broads national park. Friendly and relaxed site in a fab location. No hook up. So you can just pull up and pitch where you can find a space that suits you. Great place to get to everywhere else in Norfolk. Nice clean facilities and little shop. Would definitely stay again.

Fantastic location and excellent campsite

Simple campsite in a fantastic location, with everything so thought through. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable of the local surroundings. We could have walked everywhere and been entertained for days. But also with so many great beaches a short drive from the campsite, you're spoilt for choice.

Beautiful scenic Country Park camping

Loved the little shop, friendly staff and relaxed campsite. I thought the fire pit hire was inspired and lent to the campfire experience. Lots of space for children to play. Altogether a very enjoyable experience, thank you.

Great campsite in tranquil setting right on Whitlingham Broad and close to Norwich.

Helpful staff, nearby local pubs and amenities within walking distance. Able to choose own pitch, arrive early to get a good spot. Would have been even better if the watersports had been available on the broad. Nevertheless, a lovely 3 mile walk or cycle from right next to the campsite.

Fantastic camping break

We stayed here for 2 nights with our 2 young children and had a lovely time. Staff were polite and available, facilities were well looked after, and the location was beautiful. We camped on the upper field and left our car in the car park (which was only a 1 min walk away) and this meant the children could run around safely without the worry of cars on the field. We'll definitely be back again!

Nice campsite - disappointing Covid measures

Nice campsite in good location. However, we were really disappointed in the way that Covid measures were handled. Although numbers were meant to be limited on site, on arrival the campsite was really busy. The website states that the number of people using the shower/toilet blocks at any one time would be limited, but there was no evidence of this at all. The showerblocks were deep cleaned in the middle of the day, but quite frankly this just isn't enough. The showerblock floor and the shower trays were permanently dirty (apart from after the deep clean) and really ought to have been cleaned at least once an hour. Although there was a floor wiper available, no one really used this. The drains to take away the dirty cleaning water were mostly blocked with grass and hairs, so even if you used the floor wiper there was nowhere for the dirty water to drain away to. Campsite staff should have been in there clearing the drains on a regular basis. There was a dubious looking brown stain on the wall of one of the showers which was still there the next day. So, although a good location, if you expect high standards of hygiene you will be disappointed.

Good Morning  thank you for your review, we are dissapointed to hear that you experienced this while on site, we would be grateful if you could contact us with details of your stay so we can look into this. We have had no reported problems of late and we would absolutely like to make sure that this is not the case. Any such problems reported to staff at the time with be dealt with, there are extra staff available for this during this time and we are working very hard to maintain
At the checkin time our reception staff can get busy but there is plenty of space for everyone to que in a socially distanced manner as there is space on the field to camp as so.

There is clear signage at the doorway to all facilities blocks stating the occupany limit to each room, along with information send out before customers before arrival and details on check in. The facilities are deep cleaned at 6.15am, 12 noon  with further cleans at around 4 pm and 8 pm with regular checks in between, staff are always on hand to carry out extra cleans and are stationed next to the toilets, so are always happy to receive feedback and rectify any problems straight away. We endeavour to provide a clean and safe environment and have had many reviews and comments that suggest this has largely been the case this season, we apologise if you did not find this to be the case and would be happy to speak to your further on this

Brilliant Campsite

Fabulous campsite in a lovely location. We booked for early check in, which was very much worth it as we were able to get a good pitch before it got busier in the afternoon - think normal check in is from 2pm. There is a "pitch where you like" system, allowing for spacing of 3 metres between tents which we absolutely loved this flexibility. There is a top field where you are not allowed to park cars next to the tent and a lower field where you are allowed to park next to the tent and also for camper vans. We chose the top field as we liked the fact that children could freely run round without the concern of moving vehicles. You can park on the access road to unload your car and the site provides wheelbarrows to move stuff around, we thought this was a great touch. Facilities clean and showers were hot. Hand sanitisers available outside the toilet blocks and deep cleaned daily. We had a walk around the country park which was lovely and our daughter really enjoyed the camp onsite play area. We would absolutely recommend this campsite to anyone and have no negative points at all. Fab stay!

A perfect location for a family campsite.

Our party consisted of 2 families of 4 with children ranging from 17 to 11 . We had a fabulous week at Whitlingham . The site was just what we wanted- clean and spacious shower blocks and washing up facilities, beautiful countryside, helpful staff, well stocked shop. We swam in the river just up the lane, kids loved diving in. The village trowse was a 20min walk away and had a little pub where we had dinner one night. A walk into norwich was a bit longer at 45mins but it was along the river for some of the way. Norwich itself really impressed us, especially a Mediterranean resturant called Gem. Add to that winterton on sea (with its gorgeous beaches and seals!!!!) only a 40min drive away and you have a perfect campsite. We cannot wait to return. Thanks for having us!

THE WORST CAMPSITE EVER

Had a booking of 12 people had to hire a fire pit and bought wood everyday and after dinner we would gather around the fire pit and chat or play a game Fergus the manager approach was very aggressive and very disrespectful to the whole family bcos it was 10.45 and fires were still burning and people out but he singled us out as being to noisy even telling me my mobile phone was too loud and that if I wanted to use it to plug in headphones And when I said he was being a bit too aggressive he said if I didn’t like to leave. Fergus needs customer service training

Thank you for taking the time to review us, and for your many and varying reviews on your experience across all platforms

Our noise policy clearly states quiet enjoyment after 10.30pm , somthing you agree to upon booking and again at check in. This is the terms for all campers on site, whether it be single pitches or groups. We do not enforce a lights off/fires out curfew but ask that the noise level is kept down -Your group was not singled out- your were being overly racous , and  playing music/sporting events loudly which is disrepectful to all  others on site. Having to remind your group on this to receive verbal abuse it quite frustrating and not a situatuion we want any of our staff to be in. I apologise if you found him to be rude when you he spoke to you. All members of staff are fully customer service trained and in return to not expect to recieve verbal abuse or threats from customers - somthing we take very seriously, we absolutly stand by our policy of asking any customers doing so to leave the site withour refund for the comfort of our other guests and staff alike.  We have various members of staff availble should you wish to make any complaints about our staff or policies - we welcome feedback.

Wonderful

We stayed here in 30oC heat! We had a great time, the staff were lovely, the BBQ hotel was cheap, swimming in the local river was wonderful, the 50p ice pack recharge/borrowing literally saved our bacon and the frequent food truck visits were also great. The facilities were really cleaned and well maintained. 100% would recommend to anyone.

Response from Whitlingham Broad Campsite

thank you for your recommandation and review - and Phew! saving bacon is a good thing when camping

Great site for exploring nearby or further afield in Norfolk

I have not camped in around 30 years but this site made it feel like I had always done it! The site itself is very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a relaxed attitude to dogs which is fantastic. The shop is well stocked and the washing and toilet facilities are clean and spacious, the showers have rainfall heads ans are powerful and hot. The campsite is in a beautiful area in the Whittlingham Country Park. I would wholeheartedly recommend this site. For dog owners the site is within an hours drive of several dog friendly sandy beaches and it also gives local information. The one downside was the hardness of the ground, whilst the pitches are flat the ground beneath is quite rocky so getting tent pegs in was a mission. As a disabled returner to camping I want to say thank you and I will definitely return.

Response from Whitlingham Broad Campsite

Thank you to you for choosing to visit our site - we are so glad you and your pooch enjoyed the site. The ground was well and truly baked for a few weeks this summer but does soften with the weather!
★★★☆☆

Clean, great facilities, busy plus noisy trains

A good short stay site. We stayed a week and wished we had booked further into the broads as disturbed by trains and road noise. Shop sells all you need when open - owners please consier keeping open during the day. Site was much busier than we expected during covid- 19 but manageable if you pick the right time to use the showers. We found a good spot near the trees so had some shade at the end of the very hot days - many pitches in open ground so worth pitching a gazebo (£5 extra per day). Chose this site when booking hoping the water park would be open - it wasn't however the river is v close to take your own kayak/boards on and its only 30 mins to some fab beaches (horsey gap and Winterton quieter than the usual spots such as Wells or Cromer). The no music rule is a tad draconian so wouldn't go again.

Response from Whitlingham Broad Campsite

Thank you for your review and feedback, we are glad that on the whole you had a good time on site

We do try to keep our shop open all day, staff are always around during the closed time carrying out other duties so can be contacted - this year with extra cleaning it has not been possible everyday but we endevour to open the shop longer. At present we generally close for just 2 hours in the middle of the day when most people are off site for the day.

With regards to our no music after 10.30pm policy - we are a family campsite and try to keep noise to a minimum so we do not have to impose a night curfew like many other sites. We appreciate your feedback.

Honest review from an inexperienced camper!

The correspondence wasn’t fabulous (I must admit) as I’d booked an early pitch fee and my email confirmation said 11am- I couldn’t see anything about the early pitch time online so had to phone and pester someone to find out what time I could arrive (it was 9am) - was a bit busy when I arrived so was advised to wait until some of the campers had gone home before trying to put up my tent - so maybe an early pitch is a waste of time when campsites are busy. There is a cute little shop with ice, meat, bread and tent pegs which is fabulous but sadly closes during the day, and an amazing pizza van put in an appearance in the evening- only comes occasionally but a great bonus if it comes during your trip. The shower blocks and toilets were also great with plenty of antibac and wipes available to make us feel secure from Covid-19. The washing up water hot tap- wasn’t hot- so you need to bring a kettle for washing up. The high trees surrounding the field were charming and there was plenty of parking too, I was aware from other reviews of the dodgy hand driers in the toilets which you can hear over the entire campsite and sounds like an industrial cleaner outside your tent in the middle of the night ( yes people do go to the toilets at 3am and feel the need to dry their hands!) and you can also hear trains which are very loud - not the most peaceful of campsites and this is the reason that I’ve downgraded my rating to 4 stars. This is an excellent location for Norwich, the water sports that I’d hoped for- were closed- so check before booking, nearest beaches are 50 minutes away.

Response from Whitlingham Broad Campsite

Thank you for taking the time to write some feedback - we are glad you overall enjoyed your stay.

Early check in times are displayed when you choose this option upon booking - however staff are always happy to answer and questions you have by phone, email or at our onsite reception.
The site is just outside the city centre - and although the train line is around a line away it can of course be heard occasionally form the site - a downside of being so cloe to great intercity links i guess, this line however is used infrrquently so we hope it didnt had a huge impact on your stay.
Our hot water tap for washing up should be hot at all times - I will look into this to see if there was a problem - any such issues can be repoted to our onsite sstaff during your stay - they will be happy to look into this swiftly.

Whitlngham Adventure have been closed this summer due to COVID but hope to return very soon

Thanks again for your review - if you would like to discuss further please do call

Awesome camp site for this first time camper!!

Wow!!! What a fantastic pick for first time campers. The campsite is so relaxed. I de stressed as soon as I checked in. The staff are great really helpful and knowledgable of the area. The facilities are lovely and cleaned regularly. The cute little camp shop was so handy for those things you seem to forget. We loved the idea of hiring a camp fire. Made our holiday and so reasonable. There was plenty of room per pitch. We found this campsite to be the whole package. We didn’t even miss the electric hook up. The shop was Also useful for freezing freezer packs for next to nothing. The shop also offers a charge your phone service for a small cost. Which we didn’t even bother with as there was lists of ground to explore outside the camp. The campsite is remote enough that all you hear is the wildlife and family making memories. But not to remote that there’s a cafe across the road from camp and a little walk into the next village was a couple of local pubs. No matter what pitch your on all the facilities are less than a minute walk. I would highly recommend this site and we will definitely be back 100%. I have nothing to compare to but definitely set the bar high for the next camp site we visit 😁

In the countryside but in walking distance of Norwich City Centre. Great facilities, plenty to do!

Our first visit to Whitlingham campsite, and it was great! The facilities (shower, toilets) are great and cleaned regularly. There is plenty to do in the area. The small boat ride to a pub was a highlight for the kids and the adults. You're in Norwich, and yet, you can't hear any noise and you feel like you're in the middle of the forest. We'll be back soon!

Great campsite for families to explore Norfolk

The campsite is really well located as a base for exploring the Broads and beaches. Beautiful ,rural views and surrounded by nature, it's hard to believe it is so near Norwich. The kids loved the play area which was a big bonus! The facilities were very well maintained and clean, shop well stocked and reasonable and the visiting food van gave other meal options. I would have preferred camping pitches to be marked out in some way. Would definitely return for another stay. Many thanks

Great location for an introduction to Norfolk; easy to find, very handy for visiting Norwich and the Broads are just down the road. The campsite was clean and well kept and the staff friendly and helpful. A decent shop on site, nice playing area for kids and lovely evening stroll around the water. Lots of birds in the trees to keep you entrertained whilst eating breakfast. Really liked the two separate fields. Would definitely book again if I go back to the area.

Great escape from city life

We return to this campsite every year as we love the location and laidback atmosphere in the back field (no cars). The toilet block was cleaned regularly and it was great having a hand sanitiser outside block for use entry/exit. My only gripe was the sound of the extremely loud hand dryers, which you could hear from across the other side of the field.

Clean, friendly, post lockdown.

We booked this campsite right after lockdown. We were pleasantly surprised by how clean the facilities were. There were hand sanitisers before u go into the toilets. Hand wash by every sink. There were never more than a couple of people in there when I would go. There seemed to be always someone cleaning the toilets. The whole atmosphere of the campsite was relaxed and friendly!!! Loved that they had frozen freezer blocks to rent 50p for 2. Had one field where u weren't allowed cars and one that u were. You can pitch up wherever you like. Would highly recommend and we will def be back!!

Lovely campsite

We (an older couple) liked this campsite and would happily return again. It's in an attractive country park setting near Whitlingham Broad but also close to Norwich. There are walks round the broad and along the R. Yare on hand and a cafe at the barn nearby (not open in the evenings). The site is an open field and we did not have a problem with biting insects there. The staff were welcoming and work hard to keep the fairly new facilities clean and compliant with Covid-19 restrictions. (It would be good if they asked clients to keep the outer doors of these open in fine weather to keep it airy and reduce risk.) We were lucky probably but the clients, the majority being young families, seemed well-behaved and considerate whilst having fun, when we were there which created a nice atmosphere.

Lovely campsite

We were pleased with this campsite and will certainly return. It is well run and the friendly staff make every effort to keep the place clean and welcoming. It's sunny and open and we did not have much problem with biting insects when there in July 2020. A couple of minor points: I suggest staff have notices on the outer doors of the facilities asking people to leave them open during the Covid-19 emergency as this reduces risk and people do constantly tend to shut them. I thought the spray and extra paper etc. in the toilets for wiping the seats unnecessary but it may be a government requirement for campsites at the moment.

Can’t wait to go back!

I was so impressed with this campsite, it’s facilities and all the staff. The staff were very welcoming and were always happy to help. The small shop on site was useful. The showers and toilets were always clean and would get cleaned regularly. I loved that we could rent a fire pit and have fires each night. The site is only 10min drive from Norwich but felt enough in the countryside to have the best of both worlds. Fantastic campsite - I could not rate it highly enough. I can’t wait to go back! Thank you!

Wonderful place!

Absolutely LOVE this place! We stayed in Ronnie the railway carriage and loved everything about it. So cute and quirky and had everything we needed for a perfect glamping experience. Was so nice to have such clean toilet and shower facilities too, something I usually dread when camping. Such a good location also, really close to Norwich city centre but felt like we were well away from the busyness of a city. Staff were so friendly and accommodating, really made us feel at home. Will 100% be returning!

Money grabbing, confrontational staff

I love Whitlingham Country Park and the surrounding areas. The campsite is pretty and there are nice little touches however, the staff were not overly accommodating, generally quite aggressive and confrontational from the get go. There was a feel of trying to gain as much money off you as possible. Early / late arrival is an extra £5.50, visitors have a charge on top of car parking, cost is per person not per pitch, charge for hair dryers etc too. We were told we had more in our party and more cars then we had paid for, even after this was disproved by going through the booking and naming individuals (was surprised we weren't asked for ID!) we actually had less than what we had paid for, yet there was no apology, only a snotty "well the gazebo still needs paying for and your visitors didn't check in and pay". Nothing to do with the fact that there was no staff member on reception when they arrived.... this was after being told they would allow our earlier visitor (who had already paid) but generally no visitors which is not what is stated on the website or the front gate. Our visitors also were charged different amounts too. We had music on in the evening, nothing loud or over bearing, on the first night we didn't realise the time and turned it off once we were informed, the second night we were told no music at all (this was around 9pm) and then when noted it is until 10:30pm there was just a huff. Just felt like you were continually being watched and trying to grab more money off you. It was my first time at the campsite but others in the group had been the previous year and noted the difference, had they been like that last year, they wouldn't have rebooked, we won't be back.

Pitch perfect campsite on outskirts of Norwich

If you're looking for a campsite that offers an escape from the city but with enough to entertain your camping troupe, Whitlingham Broad campsite fits the bill perfectly. Situated on the edge of Whitlingham Broad, a tranquil lake that offers outdoor sports activities such as kayaking and sailing, and only 10 mins drive into Norwich, whether you fancy some adventurous outdoor pursuits or are drawn to the cultural or commercial attractions of Norwich, there's something for everyone, even the dog! Within minutes of leaving the site by foot, you can be in a wildflower meadow or can walk around the beautiful circular Broad. Don't miss a visit to Redwell Brewery, a local brewery/enterprise just down the road in Trowse (ask reception for directions), which is where you'll find all the locals partying on a Friday and Saturday. It runs regular quiz nights and serves great pizzas from Brick on the weekends. Norwich is fantastic for shopping in and around the Market and independent shops of the Lanes. Only small downside to the campsite is the strangely strict check-in/check-out times, but otherwise would visit again for the location alone.

A relaxing stay away from it all!

My husband and I stayed at Whitlingham Broad Campsite from 22nd to 28th August 2019. We are inexperienced campers and, to be honest, my husband wasn't looking forward to it but by the end of our stay he didn't want to leave! We had wonderful sunny weather which helped. The campsite was spacious and the toilet and shower facilities were excellent and were cleaned regularly. The campsite was busy over the bank holiday weekend and had a great atmosphere - like a pop-up village. There was a good mix of families with young children and older couples and dogs were welcome too. It was a safe place for children to play. It was great to see all the firepits and barbecues in the evenings. The campsite staff were very friendly and helpful and there were plenty of suggestions of what to do. We walked round the broad one morning (about 2 miles) and later the same day went on a trip on the broad on a solar-powered boat which was very interesting. We spent a day at Winterton-on-sea which was beautiful. One evening we walked to the local village Trowse and had a drink in the pub. On other days we visited our daughter and her family at their home in Norwich and were able to babysit for them a couple of times. We would love to return to this campsite and highly recommend it.

Great Family Holiday

This was my family’s first camping holiday and it did not disappoint. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The actual campsite I’d say is quite large and has plenty of room. The facilities were great, the showers were always hot and very well maintained. The campsite shop was very reasonable for essentials. On the day we left my children were so upset to be leaving and I promised that we’d come back and I can honestly say that we 100% will. The area is beautiful and there is so much to do locally. One of my favourite holidays. Thank you so much.

Lovely Site - Slightly Noisy

We had a great stay at the site. Only downside was the road and rail noise, which we weren't expecting to be so bad. Also website shows a low ropes course at the country park that no longer exists. Staff were friendly, ground was flat and not rocky, play park was fab and the facilities decent. The location is good, nice country park, easy access to Norwich and The Broads. We visited BeWILDerwood and Winterton-on-Sea and would recommend both. We would return, the location and facilities do out-weigh the noise issues.

Take a torch

As there is a small ditch between the camping fields it is worth bringing a torch to find your way to the bridge. Located a stones throw away from the Whitlingham country park with a delightful 2 mile walk around the broad. Should you 'accidently' touch the door to the visitor centre after closing a loud speaker will shout out 'you have violated a secure area, please leave immediately, security will be called' but you probably won't touch the door - will you?

Ronnie was amazing!!

We stayed in Ronnie the converted railway carriage for a weekend in June. We had a fantastic weekend and the accommodation was amazing. The owners have done a great job converting the old railway carriage and our boys loved the sleeping pods under the main bed. It is perfect for two adults and two children. The decking area outside was great for relaxing in the evening and the hammock and fire pit was a nice touch. The facilities on site are very good and clean and the owners and staff were very helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend this site and would say book Ronnie if you want to make your stay a little bit more special.

Fabulous, relaxing & special

We've been coming here with our son for five years now and always have a great time. Chilled out with fantastic views. It's relaxing for adults but with enough to do with boisterous children with the water sports centre so close by. The facilities are spotlessly clean and owners always helpful. There's a shop too for essentials and you can hire a fire pit and buy firewood. Check out the information boards about visiting food vendors to save on having to cook yourself. There is also a visitor centre nearby too if you want a hearty cooked breakfast - usually available late mornings. A short drive and you'll hit Norwich with its Castle museum - check out the Vikings exhibition (until September), the Egyptian mummies and the teapot collection too. Hoping to come back a few more times before the summer's end too. Can't offer a better compliment than that.

Beautiful, rural setting with great facilities and super helpful staff

Have just come home after 4 nights stay over Easter. Such a fantastic site, two fields - one where you can park right next to your tent and one which stays car free. The washing facilities were great, especially the family shower rooms. A really lovely touch and so helpful with smaller children. We found the toilets and shower rooms were well maintained, cleaned each morning and the water hot. A really relaxed vibe with no marked pitches and a fab adventure playground. Both Fergus and his partner were so helpful with ideas of places to go and the local area, from a wander to the local village and pubs, a bike ride round the broad to idyllic, unspoilt beaches a short drive away. Something for everyone. Such a gem to find somewhere so pretty so close to the city centre, the broads and the coast. Thanks for a wonderful stay! We will definitely be back.

Lovely site

Great location within easy access to all amenities and leisure activities. Site well looked after with clean shower/toilet facilities. There is a family room and a room for disabled users. The only critique I would have is if you are going to open all year round you need to have some form of heating in the shower blocks. We visited in April and it was below 10 degrees. I could not take my disabled son into the family or disabled shower facilities to shower as it was simply too cold.

Relaxed and friendly

Lovely setting just next to Whitlingham Broad, no cars on the top camping field which was great for kids and made it feel more old school, as did the fire pits and the lack of measured out pitches. Play area was fab for a variety of ages. Toilets/showers were lovely with plenty of space, hooks in the cubicles, bench to put stuff on, nice and clean. The one "hot" water tap for washing up was lukewarm at best and one of the showers was a bit feeble (there are 3 others). Also, we realised at the end of the weekend that we were supposed to walk all our rubbish right down to the car park - we had used small bin bags and added them to the dustbins near the toilet block as they filled up and this was over flowing a bit by the end. Overall we had a really lovely weekend with friends and children and would definitely think about going back.

Thank you for taking the time to review us - we are glad you had a great stay!

We have reviewed our signage on our convience bins around site, these can fill up if huge bags are stuffed inside them - as we do ask customers to seperate thier recycling and pop into into the skip bins just a few seconds walk onto the car park, this is of course to limit refuse being left out within the camping field, and therefore not attract the woodland wildlife!!

Thanks again for your comments

Dangerous

Having visited the site twice previously, we thought that we would be welcomed back with a safe environment and warm customer service. Yet, the campsite had the audacity to let us set up tents on top of an extremely active wasps nest that had been there since april. We were stung constantly and the campsite refused to do anything claiming that it was not their responsibility to help or get rid of them. After resfusing to show any public liability insurance or first aid certificates, there was no space to move and they told us to deal with it ourselves as they had no duty of care to us. They claimed we never told them where the nest was even though we stated multiple times it was 1 meter from our largest tent. After asking from help since 11am, no one even came over to take a look at the situation until 9pm after the wasps had gone back into the hive and we were leaving the next day. We managed to catch hundreds and hundreds of wasps with the traps that we made ourselves, Ive never felt so unsafe and disregarded in my life. The manager told me I was being extremely rude and didn’t want to deal with me purely because I mentioned that pest control did work during day hours and weren’t constructed to night hours like she claimed. We are absolutely disgusted with their actions, and even admitted to us that as we were a group of 20 year olds, we were only children and had no power over them. It was not only a dangerous situation for us, but for the families with young children camping around us. All we wanted was for someone to remove the nest, but clearly as we pre paid £300 for our trip, they felt no need to look after us and they had already got their money. Disgusted.

Excellent site

Excellent campsite, really good, clean facilities. We stayed in the Shepherds Hut so we had a little bit of luxury. There were three of us but it still felt spacious. Nicely decorated, pretty bedding and lots of cushions.A fire pit, BBQ and picnic bench were included in the cost which was good. The children's play area is great and everything is done to a very high standard. The site is next to a large Broad where you can do various water sports and we went a little further afield and hired a boat to go further. Two local pubs in walking distance are ok and the Vegetarian restaurant is a real gem.

Best campsite I've been to since a long time

Lovely quite place and you can makes quite walks in the surrounding woodland. You can pick your own pitch. Very friendly staff !!! Showers/toilets are very good and clean. Norwich city is close by when you want to visit it. Suggestions: 1. A small shelf in the showers to place items on. 2. Fridge for campers with tents as there is no electricity at the pitches and in particularly in the summer that might proof handy ! 3. Warm water when doing the dishes might help too.

You can also freeze freezer pack in our reception to keep those cool boxes cold!

Ticks the boxes

This site has everything you need and lots more. It's friendly and easy to find. However it just doesn't do it for us as it was not the wild peaceful setting that we love and hoped for. It really is an open space- on a slope where everyone camps around the edge. You can't even see the water.  It does have a great location for walks and access to Norfolk and it is well managed  and good at  dealing with noisy campers.  No complaints just not a favourite. Sorry!

Thanks for your review we are sorry it was not right for you here, but glad you enjoyed your stay. The campsite is spread over 2 fields, upper car free field has a mild slope at the top end, the other field where you can camp in a van or with your car is completly flat. Campers have the choice where to it is not nessesary to camp around the edges - you can choose your perfect spot! The water is 30 seconds walk from the site, but. We  are surrounded on all edges by some glorious woodland.

Norwich - who knew?

We went here because all the places we wanted to stay on the north Norfolk coast were full - and didn't regret the decision for a minute! It's a lovely campsite, just getting going, set in a vast wetland park to the south of Norwich. There's a watersports centre, the Norfolk Broads, a cafe/visitor centre, woodland walks, picnic meadow - and all that Norwich has to offer just a short walk (or open-air ferry!) ride away.

The upper field has a no-car policy which makes it very pleasant - there's a track running up the outside of the field where you can drive the car just for unloading though, as well as barrows for carting your stuff. Facilities are basic but kept very clean, and they say they are building more comprehensive bathroom / washing facilities soon. The fires policy was great - no worries that we were breaking the rules just to eat from the Biolite stove, and renting a fire pit didn't break the bank and kept the kids amused in the slightly chilly evenings.

Did I mention Norwich? Interesting historic city centre, very compact, with plenty to do on rainy (or not) days. This summer they had Go-go Dragons dotted around the city centre - a brilliant way to get the kids interested in walking around town. We got 44 on our foray...

It is placed in a delightful setting and is very close to both Norwich (though it certainly doesn't feel like you are close to a city) and the Norfolk broads are very accessible. The hosts were lovely and very helpful. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Renting a fire pit is a great idea and a great way to spend the evening!

Lovely little city getaway

i liked this site as i'm a norfolk girl and Norwich is my home, it is situated on some lovely walks, which we did,

people have commented on the road which they probably came in on....you can hear but so much in the distance it didn't disturb us at all, we stayed in the top field which does say no cars but you have access to drive around to unload.

The toilet blocks are perfect and are cleaned at least twice a day from what I seen.  You can have campfires in the hired pits which were maybe a little overpriced but we did it anyway.  My kids loved the space they had.

The owners couldn't have been more helpful. The site is accommodating of groups and were okay accommodating a group of 18 year olds.

We stayed in 2 bell tents, both were extremely spacious yet cosy. The mobile phone/electronic device charging and freezer block freezing was extremely useful, as well as the board game and fire pit rental.

Unfortunately when leaving we encountered mechanical issues. The owners couldn't have done much more. They offered to help resolve the issue and when this was not possible they then found, phoned and arranged a mechanic for us.

Helpful owners, brilliant camping facilities, stunning location, overall an EXCELLENT stay!!

Happy hippy camping!

Situated in the beauty of the broads, this campsite combines quirky with quaint. You'd never guess you were only a 10 minute drive from the city with the lake by your side and the fields all around. The owners are SO lovely and have the friendliest dog who is just as happy to meet you. Toilets were clean and cool with lovely rustic furniture (and also full of hooks, there's nothing worse than dumping your clothes on a dirty wet floor!) We stayed 2 nights, one in their luxury Shepherd's Hut which was one of the best sleeps I've ever had; it had everything we needed including a set of travel books to read in bed and a little fire to keep warm. The tent pitches were flat and smooth...no rocks here! And you can't turn down the offer to rent a fire pit to sit and watch the stars in this magical place. This is definitely worthy of the title 'cool camping.'

A Brilliant Family Campsite

This was our first camping trip all together (2 families - 9 of us in total) and we ALL had an amazing time from the youngest to the oldest.  We had booked one Bell Tent and a normal tent pitch so we were on the upper field.  Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Fergus and Mr Murphy.  We were guided to the Bell Tent and informed that we could use the wheelbarrows to unload (the kids absolutely loved doing this).  The Bell Tent was perfect with loads of little touches that make them that little bit special. We pitched up our tent next to the Bell Tent and made ourselves at home.  The kids loved playing in the woodland area and we had games in the middle of the field.  Nights were spent around the fire pit chatting, laughing and generally enjoying our short break.  We found the shower/toilet facilities to be clean at all times, even in the early morning or  midnight dash through the rain. Upon our last day (which came far to quickly) we all decided that we would all definitely come back again, the kids had already planned new games to play in the woods.  I myself was totally surprised that I enjoyed myself quite so much as I am not a camper at heart, and despite the continuous English rain thoroughly enjoyed myself.   We have no complaints about the campsite at all and only believe that as the years go by the campsite will only improve for the better. We will all be booking again and are already planning our trip.

A very good site

We found this site via cool camping and it was a good honest camp site in a convenient setting. We wanted to have a go at Kayaking and on the broad next to the site you can hire a canadian canoe for £10 for a hour if you mention you are camping.

The site was basic but this is not a bad thing, you have the choice to park next to your tent in one field or car free in the other. It is flat-ish and on a busy bank holiday weekend we found a good spot by the shepherds huts  and set ourselves up. We didnt have kids with us but the kids that were there safely played close to the site in young woods or between the tents. In the evening you can have a fire pit or barbeque either way it was quiet and fellow camper were considerate.

Obviously with Norwich so close you have tons of shops but the camp site had a small shop with a very friendly couple running the whole thing. It did us well for 3 nights we then moved on to a very commercial site called Kelling Heath which in stark contrast seemed impersonal and a bit corperate.

brilliant simple campsite

We spent 2 weeks camping at this site in August when it was just 10 weeks old. We loved the site and would thoroughly recommend it to those that like to get back to simple unspoilt camping. The 2 fields are different in nature with the top field benefiting from not allowing cars on site. Little wheelbarrows were provided to move bags etc around and the kids loved wheeling each other around in these. The beauty of there not being fixed pitches was that you could spread out nicely and didn't feel cramped. Most people pitched around the edges which left lots of play space for the kids and quite a few energetic adults! Night time games of hide and seek in the dark seemed incredibly popular. At night most tents had fire pits (hired from the site) and people sat around chatting and toasting marshmallows while some strummed gently on their guitars. This site was one of the most relaxing we have camped on in our 20+ years of camping. Fergus and Linda were the most amazing "hosts" .Their patience knew no bounds as the kids all gravitated towards them and would either be found perched on the barstools in the office putting the world to rights or playing outside with their very gentle dog; Mr Murphy. The site is well situated, close to the beautiful city of Norwich (5 min drive) and yet in the centre of beautiful countryside, with good transport networks to get out and explore the water ways (sadly the main road was audible at night). The broad next door, provides a good range of water sports for kids Mon-Fri (we would recommend booking these in advance as they can get full mid holidays). Facilities on this site are basic but but that really adds to the beauty of cool camping. The shower water was hot, toilets were clean and sufficient and there was dish washing facilities (although we preferred to wash up by the tent)...really what more do you need?

Happy Camping

Just had 2 nights at Whitlingham Broad Campsite and have had the most relaxing time. We stayed in one of the exquisite and comfortable Shepherd's Huts. They are very comfortable and have been positioned in prime spot so as we prepared dinner under the handy gazebo on the equally handy picnic table, you get a wonderful view across the campsite down to the flint barn visitor centre.

Everyone was friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us, and the whole site had such a happy and relaxed vibe. The fire pits are great and at night there was the flicker of fires all around and groups of campers huddled around chatting and laughing, but we never felt disturbed by any noise, just added to the atmosphere. The park itself is a lovely spot, loads of walks for the dog and just surrounded by trees as far as you can see, yet only a half hour walk to the centre of Norwich. Loved it, will be back in the winter to take advantage of the log stove in the Shepherd's Hut.

Great Location

We had a wonderful weekend here. This campsite is well located next to some walks by the broads and canals of Norfolk, and on Saturday and Sunday, between 1 and 5pm, there is a local activity centre where you can rent kayaks, canoes, and sail boats.

We stayed in a bell tent, which was excellent. It slept 4 comfortably (on 2 double futons) with an option for 6 (on two provided fold out cushion chair thingies) which would have been a squeeze, but sure, but possible.

The shop is stocked with essentials. The showers are hot.

Apparently, this place has opened only recently. Certainly, I noticed lots of new saplings about the camp site.

My only complaint, would be that this campsite is not quite as secluded as I normally like (the silence of the night is tarnished by the endless drone of the A47 which connects Norwich to Great Yarmouth).

Additionally, the price (£130 for one night) was a little expensive. Actually, it is quoted as being £65 per night, but the minimum reservation is for 2 nights. This is of course common in the camping game, but I still find it irksome.

This campsite was lovely. A peaceful and charming spot right at the start of the Broads. What was amazing was that despite the tranquility, Norwich was so close that we were easily able to pop into the town for a meal one night and use the trains when we needed to with our bikes. There were some good biking into the Broads from this spot and its a perfect place for walking. Linda and Fergus couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and we wish them every success with their excellent new campsite.

Perfect weekend of camping!

Camping here was amazing. We turned up with our tent and everything to find a very pretty and spacious camping field. We picked our favourite spot which had a great view up the top not far from the shepherds' huts. The camping pitches were very nice - not rocky, very grassy and flat. Also there were not set spaces which meant everyone was free to kind of spread out.
The owners, Linda and Fergus, were very friendly and welcoming. They helped us book a cab at one point when we had to duck into town and when we left to go back to the station. They also provided portable fire bowls/bbqs which was great - nice and warm to sit around at night.
The location was very nice. The broads are just 2 minutes walk away and there is an information centre just across the street with a cafe where you can buy coffee, tee, ice cream, etc...

Whitlingham Broad Campsite

We stayed in one of the shepherds huts. It was very pleasant and well furnished. The log burner made it very warm and it was cosy with the tealights in the holders provided. Facilities are functional and it was nice to be able to have a fire pitt. Would recommend to friends and would stay again.
