The loveliest campsite 🥰
We absolutely loved our stay at Hickling Campsite. It is such a beautiful, peaceful spot & everything is so well thought through to make staying there a joy. The facilities are plentiful & kept immaculately clean. The Hickling Hut has everything you could need for supplies & a few gorgeous bits that just make it extra special. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
well equipped camp site in good location
I have done a fair amount of wild camping and stayed on some pretty basic camp sites with my three(now adult) sons. My wife had never been camping so in an attempt to persuade her of the benefits of the outdoor life I selected Hickling Campsite for her debut. The good news is that she enjoyed the experience-helped greatly by the spotless toilet/showers/washing up facilities and running hot water. The camp site was in a great location near fabulous beaches and we also enjoyed a boat trip on Hickling Broad. It was a shame the shop wasn't open during our stay but all in all a very well maintained site.
Great spot, quiet, but close to pubs and broads. Really liked the flexibility of check in and check out. Kept impeccably clean all day. Showers are very good- hot and no time limits. Thought the design and build of the toilets, washing up sinks and shower block was ingenious and very well done. Would recommend to any campers and it was great not to have the caravan and camper brigade for a change!
Great Little Camp Site
Loved this campsite! Relaxed approach with no set pitches or strict check in/out times. Brilliant facilities, lovely hot free flowing showers, clean toilets and outdoor washing up. Great shop with lots of good quality stock and proper coffee. Easy walk to the local pubs. I’d definitely return here again.
Amazing first glamping trip
My daughter and I have just returned from three nights staying in The Podfather, ample space and all the essentials provided. What a fab experience. Lovely site, hot showers, nice little shop, fire pits were great and the team were helpful and friendly. Ideal location with easy access to the Broads and several beaches. Thank you Hickling team.
Really friendly, homely, high spec & clean site! We had a great time in Hickling in Hare Hut which was really nicely laid out & comfy for our family of 4 with plenty of places to store all of our stuff. The toilets & cleaning facilities were spotless & to a nice spec which made us feel really comfortable. Great access to lots of nearby places to visit and not too far from a Tesco for extra supplies. We will definitely be visiting again soon!
We’ll definitely be back!
This is a campsite clearly designed with proper campers in mind. No music (bliss), quiet after 10pm (bliss), a wonderful little shop on site providing excellent coffee and croissants amongst other delights (bliss) and who knew that a shower in a shed could be so joyful (bliss)! A lovely sight, well-kept and within easy reach of lots of fun activities on and off the water.
this place was awesome. Perfectly clean toilets and showers,( and hot). loads of sanitisation spots. Quiet, easy going. fire pits were great. Great little shop. Little charge point for electricals, really nice flat pitches. Awesome for our first family camping trip!
Wonderful camping trip
Great campsite.Secluded spot but great access to broads and coast . Lovely clean toilets and how simple showers. Great little touches like electricity points for blowing up air beds and freezer storage . Good washing up area with draining space and drinking water. Lots of space , good shop for essentials and logs for fire pits . Will be back
Wonderful camping trip
Great campsite . The showers were hot and clean and everything is well cared for . Great little shop with some food/drinks/logs /marshmallows. Good facilities including freezer block storage and electric point to blow up air beds. Lovely secluded setting , didn’t feel too busy ,with easy access to broads , coast, boat hire and local pubs. Drinking water tap and raised washing up area with draining -nice touches . Great fire pits to sit around or cook on too.
Such a wonderful site
Just returned from a 6 night camping stay with my husband and 2 children (5 and 4 years). We had a fantastic stay! The toilets, showers and pot washing station were kept exceptionally clean with hand sanitiser placed at regular touch points. The showers were warm with good pressure. The site has glamping opportunities and a field for non electric tent pitches. The shop was also a welcome addition to my last stay a few years ago! The local beaches are amazing! I would definitely stay here again and hope to return for another holiday.
Fabulous small friendly camp site
Loved the fire pits great atmosphere in the evenings. Latte and croissants in the morning. Short walk to lovely pub and view over Hickling Broad. Definitely recommend especially for families will go again soon we hope!
Beautiful quiet well positioned campsite
Hickling is a perfect campsite for a family. Just enough facilities without losing the quiet Nature-laden campsite feel and perfectly positioned within cycling distance to beautiful beaches where we swam with seals, and walking/cycling to boating fun on the broads. Really helpful staff who even lent us jump leads, and great campfire braziers! We are going back!
Relaxed camping with great amenities
This place is wonderfully set up. The little cafe shop which sells local produce is such a win. The showers and toilets are clean and airy without cobwebs and well maintained. We had a warm welcome but were not in any way hassled and left to our own devices. It is a family orientated campsite but as a duo or a small group you can still have fun... just its considerate to others so no music after 10..whuch was fine 🙂 loved it xxx
Chic camping. We stayed in the Hare Hut a pitched a couple of tents outside it. The staff were friendly, everything about the set up is very considered. Hot, clean showers, awesome fire cooker and a great cafe / shop. The hut could maybe have been improved with a couple of extra shelves for the food storage and some bolts to keep the table attached to the wall, but wouldn’t change anything else. Would recommend to any of my family and friends (and we’re pretty fussy about where we stay). Beautiful unspoilt coastline close by with seals - made it for the kids. And a great pub called The Swan in Ingham nearby.
Lovely family friendly campsite
We had a great stay at Hickling. The facilities are spot on with some nice extra touches and kept super clean. It really feels like a campsite for people who love camping and really family friendly too. There is loads to do in the surrounding area and we were super busy but we loved coming 'home' each evening. Would 100% recommend it!
Nicely organised site
Hickling is a lovely, simple campsite. Really well thought through with nice touches. We liked the friendly staff, hot showers, little on-site shop, flat ground, great washing up area, freezers for ice blocks, nice braziers for fire/cooking and generally the accommodating, welcoming feeling. My one little wish might be for hooks in the bathroom for coats. Thanks to Jo and team, we hope to come back
A little treasure
A lovely flat site, with a very chilled attitude. Plentiful fire pits provided for your campfire, with logs available to buy on site. Pitch where you like - disconcerting at first, but seems to work :-). Consider ear plugs if you think the joyous squeals of children having fun (or the less joyous ones of the odd tantrum!) or the occasional dog barking, is going to bother you. Facilities extremely clean, and cleaned regularly, with plenty of sanitiser etc. Handy shop selling the useful and the treat. A big Tesco in Stalham for convenience, but loads of farm shops locally (google maps is your friend), and the village stores in Ludham has everything you might need (so Tesco can be avoided), including chilled white wine. Kayak and paddle board hire from Norfolk Outdoor Adventures in Hickling, cycle friendly lanes. A small selection of maps and books available at the NWT Nature Reserve in Hickling. Sea Palling has amusements and fish and chips (very low key), Horsey for seals, all the beaches we visited were lovely big expanses of sand. Recommend Ross's Wildlife Tours (boat) from Horsey Windpump NT. Can also go on a boat trip in the Marshes from How Hill Nature Reserve. The Nature Reserve at Hickling is lovely, also the stretch of the Weavers' Way along Hickling Broad is enchanting. Highly recommended, thank you for a lovely stay.
Stayed in the Stag shepherds hut. What an awesome place this is, just rock up with bedding (and maybe a small stove for a quick early morning cuppa) and that’s how easy it is. Hickling campsite has thought of everything even for your dog. On-site store containing locally sourced food, bakery, fruit. Open 07:30 -11 and 5-9 It’s really chilled. Campsite staff are very friendly and helpful. Beaches and broads not far away. You’ll be able to do pretty much everything you would normally do without a pandemic. Just great. Thanks Hickling Campsite xxxx We’ll come again. Mike and Abigail, Zach and Maddy
Best campsite shower you will ever have!
Campsite shower block and toilets are fantastic. Really modern, but very tastefully built, clean facilities. The showers are spacious, powerful and warm. Little shop was well stocked and staff were friendly. Fires are allowed and logs were available. Campsite field could do with being a bit bigger, felt a little cramped. Price is pretty high. Overall enjoyed our stay here.
Lovely night’s stay at Hickling Campsite
I booked the Stag Hut at Hickling Campsite for me and my boyfriend for one night. When we arrived a hamper had been left in our room by the owners of the campsite which had marshmallows for roasting on the fire, popcorn and a bottle of flavoured water! The hut was really lovely and cosy and had all you needed with plates, cups and glasses. The hut came with tables and chairs outside and a fire pit which was really lovely to sit by in the evening. The firewood can be bought on the campsite and money left in a honesty box. The showers and toilets were spotless and the water in the showers was nice and warm! The campsite has a little shop on it to buy drinks, bbq food and other bits and pieces which is really handy! We both said we would definitely come back and rebook, it was a really lovely place to stay!
Good site, but a bit noisy at night
We spent a lovely 4 days at Hickling just after the campsite was opened after lock down. Although the facilities are basic, the showers are the best ones on any site we have been to. Great shop, free fire pits to use, loads of cleaning going on because of covid and lots of sanitiser stations and soap around. Staff where lovely. Only down side for us was the large groups of families, which took over the site (gazebos everywhere). Site became very noisy at night with constant dogs barking and children having meltdowns/screaming, not really relaxing and we felt a bit hemmed in. Having said that it's a great site and we did some lovely walking and canoeing on the broads.
Adventures & Star Gazing
Trailblazing trendsetters, this cool as a cucumber campsite hits all the right notes for a sumptuously luxurious glamping stay. An easy to find destination with idyllic surroundings with a big Norfolk sky as extra for the star gazers amongst us. We stayed in the Shepherds Hut (with sheep detailing) which was nestled in amongst truly delectable raspberries which you can forage for whilst you stay - we gobbled these down for breakfast, lunch, dinner & snuck some into our campers cocktails. A hamper of Norfolk goodies met us in the hut on arrival, marshmallows, cordials, popcorn the works it was an impressive start to say the least. There are home comforts galore from hot *clean as a whistle* showers, easy to use washing up facilities and spacious toilets with plenty of loo roll. The hut itself was spacious & the sleeping area cosy & comfortable (I slept like a log). Food is a priority of the camping people & Hickling Campsite did not disappoint. Hickling Hut was full to the brim of tasty goodies, from your Norwich Porridge to your bbq meats & everything in between. We ate locally one night at the pleasure boat inn where there are plenty of chatty people willing to share stories of their adventures (make sure you take a torch to get home, 15 mins walk) A log cabin of delights on site were available to us too, extra wood for the fire to make your tea & bbqs with free firelighters to boot! There were extra marshmallows to purchase & even matches for those forgetful among us. We didn't want to travel too far from the campsite as it was tip top as it was, but we did find some seriously special places. Waxham with its golden sands & what felt like a secret entrance, Whispering Reeds boat hire was ridiculously fun for a few hours, somewhere else worth a mention was Hickling Reserve also known as Norfolk Wildlife Trust we didn't go quite at the right season for bird watching but its a great space to explore any time of year. All in all this distinctive unusual campsite is worth a visit, you will leave feeling refreshed & wanting more. We will certainly make this a yearly tradition, think we will be looking into the canal camping next ! Bell tents here we come! Thanks Jo & Tom x
Quiet, great facilities....just lovely
Stayed for just a couple of nights. The facilities were lovely and clean. With a small number of tents on site , they were also free to use with no queues. Showers - better than at many hotels I've stayed in. Pitches ….flat as a pancake. All in all , just what our party needed ….and really well done. I think i'll be back!
Lovely relaxed campsite
Facilities were great with rustic charm and very clean! Little shop is a lovely touch as are the fire pits, logs & marshmallows. Great for families wanting to have a break from technology!
Nice but a little small
Good (if basic) wash and toilet facilities with a lovely camp shop and friendly staff, situated in a charming part of the world. Only issues were that, when busy, it felt crowded and with nowhere else in the surrounding fields for our (or anyone else's) children to run around, it felt a little claustrophobic. And when dry the ground is hard as cement (we went through a lot of pegs...)
Great quiet campsite with amazing shop
Such a great campsite, Sheppard's hut was a lovely alternative to camping in a tent. Very well furnished
IDEAL FAMILY CAMPING
We (Self, wife 5+9 year old and the dog)spent 3 nights here in August. Fantastic location for access to broads and beaches. Local pubs offer great food in great settings. Kids played and made friends. Clean facilities hot showers onsite shop offering a selection of treats. Flat spacious field in lovely location. We will revisit Jo and her helpers!!
Lovely chilled campsite
We stayed for our second visit with our 4 children August 3rd - 5th and loved it! The owners have nailed every little detail from the hand painted signs, clean toilets/showers, firewood shed and and the fab addition of the Hickling hut which stocks loads of locally sourced treats and essentials. We will definitely be returning and might try out one of the cute shepherds huts next time! Thanks Jo and the rest of the staff for making our trip extra special ♥️
A bit too free and easy
I stayed for three nights, arriving on June 10 '19 and leaving on June 13. Lovely relaxed campsite and well situated site with excellent facilities, a very friendly owner and helpful, welcoming staff. Then why only three stars you may ask? Well, my stay was ruined by a large extended family who didn't want to follow the "no music at anytime of the day" and "quiet after 10PM" rules after arriving on Friday afternoon. These rules are buried in a glossy brochure handed to weekend arrivals that I doubt anyone reads. I wasn't about to phone up Jo, the site manager who lives offsite, and complain at 11PM on a Friday night. After reminding the family of the rules I was laughed at and accused of not being polite enough in my request for them to tone it down! Personal abuse shouted into the night followed soon after. The families with kids nearby must've really enjoyed hearing that. I'd suggest a polite but prominent sign at the facilities reminding visitors of these rules and to respect other people in a shared space. It's Hickling Campsite, not Glastonbury and it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel... I left two days early to find another place to stay.
Stayed here for three nights with my husband and two children, 12 & 9. Hickling is a fantastic campsite. Despite the site being almost ‘full’ over the weekend, there was plenty of space on the flat field for neighbours to be a good distance away and children to play. The site is very quiet with a lovely chilled atmosphere. No electric, just tents, with spotlessly clean toilets, showers and washing up sinks. There is a very small shop open weekends and a freezer to keep ice packs cold. Very relaxed, lovely friendly staff, what more could you want. Near to beaches and the broads. We will definitely be back.
This is one of the very best campsites we’ve ever stayed at. Immaculately clean showers, plentiful hot water, spotless grass that we were happy to let our baby crawl around on, free braziers, peaceful location, I could go on and on. Jo and Tom have thought of everything to make their site so beautiful and easy to camp at. Also a lovely lack of rules and regs signs, too. Pure escapism. We’ll be back x
Relaxing and beautiful campsite
Great facilities, friendly staff, wonderful shop, well placed site, loads of room - thanks for the break!
Great quiet campsite with amazing shop
This is a lovely campsite, in a great location to explore the broads and the coast. The shop was well stocked and morning coffees and pastries were amazing. The no music rule meant it was a perfect site for families
Lovely campsite, great area for holidays!
We stayed for a weekend here as a group of 4 families, but we had plenty of space for kids to run around, and a sense of privacy despite the open camping field. The shop on site was very useful and the owners were wonderfully friendly. Lovely pub within walking distance (though partly down a fairly busy road which was a bit unnerving with the smaller kids in our party) and we had a great time at a nearby beach (Happisburgh) and at the local nature reserve. Hopefully we will come back before too long!
Great campsite for a family group
This is a great campsite for families and small groups. Really well kept, clean and tidy, in a fantastic location. Quiet at night and a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Great location; great facilities; great time
Campsite is in a great location a short drive from Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Managed by the lovely Jo, the vibe is enjoy yourselves and take it easy (prime example is the honesty box for the wood) backed by amazing shower facilities. Enjoy the gorgeous Norfolk weather, and relax without a care in the world.
Great 1st camping experience
We went for 2 nights in midweek may half term with 4 children and the dog. The campsite was clean, comfortable and very friendly. We got good local advice from Jo, the owner, and a lady that keeps the site clean and tidy (Sorry, I never asked your name). There's a well stocked shop (including meat for bbqs). Great roomy, clean showers and toilet/washing areas. For those who don't want to sleep in a tent, there are nice shepherd huts.
Rare gem of a campsite
Booked the Pod for one night on short notice, found it to be comfortable clean and well equipped. Didn’t actually use the fire pit but the logs are reasonably priced if you want to use them, toilets are clean nice warm showers. All in all great place to stay will loads of things to do in close proximity. Pod would benefit from a kettle as this is the only place with electricity
What a terrific campsite
We stayed for three nights at the end of the summer. Me, my son (10YO) and daughter (7YO). The facilities were great: clean loos, hot showers, hardly ever any queues, despite a full campsite. Spacious flat pitches. Lots of room for the kids to run about. Campfires encouraged, with wood matches, marshmallows all available at reasonable prices. Minimal light means that on clear nights the stars are spectacular. Tom & Jo are super-friendly, attentive, and responsive hosts. The area is wonderful. Walking distance to Hickling Board where we hired kayaks. A short drive to Norfolk beaches (Mundesley was our favourite) and Great Yarmouth for seaside larks. Short drive to a supermarket. Lots of lovely walks and nature. We'll be back soon for sure.
Tom & Jo have the site spot on. Just returned from a two night stay in the pod. Accompanied by 3 friends who pitched tents. Where to start .......... The Pod: very clean, electric points, clever set up of a table that turns into a comfortable bed, dimmer light, and lots more. Marshmallows, popcorn and a bottle of soft drink waiting for us - great touch. Mustn’t forget the fire pit, already found it on the web to buy!!! The site: toilets, showers and washing up area are spotless. The hut with wood, kindling and marshmallows to buy were a nice touch. Tom and Jo: only got to chat with Jo, passionate about keeping everyone happy, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Things to do: the Greyhound pub food was of a high standard. The pleasure boat served great fish and chips. You must go and see the seals, lovely sight. All in all a fab weekend had by all. We will be back 🤗
Everything you need for a simple, relaxed camping experience
Just returned from a brilliant, relaxing 3 nights camping at Hickling campsite with my husband and teenage daughter. This is the place for you if you want a friendly, simple, fuss free experience. You will find: Flat pitches; Clean toilets, washing up facilities and hot showers; Plenty of fire pits with wood, matches, marshmallows and firelighters available; Friendly, helpful owners; Lots of fresh air activities within a short cycling/driving distance. Good local pubs You wont find: An over expensive shop Loud "entertainment" Playparks or swimming pool.
An amazing first camping holiday, the facilities were great and the owners Tom and Jo were very friendly and relaxed.
This was our first experience at camping, and wow it was a fantastic experience. The site was very clean, the toilets and showers were cleaned regularly. It was nice to chose where you would like to pitch your tent instead of being told where to go and don't feel settled. Jo and Tom have made this a very relaxing site, with all you need to have a wonderful time, One of the nice things here was on your departure day there was no stipulation as to what time you had to leave the site, so even on your last day you could take your time and not have to rush about. The location was great , it was in a quiet spot but near enough to alovely beach in sea palling if you want some beach days. We had a meal at the local pub one night and the food was lovely (the greyhound). I certainly will be returning to here next year and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends . Congratulations Jo and Tom your little paradise has won me over to the camping world. Thanks again for an amazing stay.
Simple perfect night away
We stayed in the owl hut, perfect for a simple night away just the two of us. Very impressed, everything spotless. Welcome pack appreciated. Will definitely return
I liked the families
My 8 year old had the best time. Hot showers and water and lots of local places to visit nearby. Will be booking again soon
An absolute gem
Just returned back from a weekend camping at Hickling Campsite . I absolutely love this place .. third time of visiting and already booked again for August . The location is absolutely perfect . Everything and more than you would expect . Thank you so much for providing such a tranquil relaxing and beautiful campsite .i almost want to keep this one a secret .
We have just returned from a super weekend at Hickling campsite. The site is well looked after and really friendly. It is very clean with lovely showers. We can't wait to come back and would highly recommend to our friends. Thank you for. Wonderful weekend!!
Welcoming and Clean
Very pleasant campsite - very clean shower and toilet facilities and owners very flexible with managing booking - able to change my dates at short notice.
BH Weekend Away
My daughter, husband I stayed in 'Duck' - one of 3 lovely little shepherd huts. The interior was beautiful and cosy and having our own bit of land for my daughter to play in was perfect. The campsite itself is lovely and it was so nice to wake up and have an outdoor shower first thing in the glorious sunshine (the water is warm and the showers are clean and spacious). We really enjoyed our time here and the campsite is near lots of beautiful villages and broads etc. Great place for walks and bike rides and near lovely little beaches. Great weekend overall!
Great Bank holiday stay
Lovely campsite, very laid back, guest welcome, bags of firewood available for £5. Only downside is some of the field was boggy and sections off so kids had less space to play, but otherwise all facilities clean and well maintained
Relaxing and welcoming
I can't compare to other sites as I'm new to camping, but I seem to have chosen a great place to start my camping adventures. The atmosphere is really relaxed with no designated pitches or check-ins for tent camping; you just turn up and the friendly notices guide you to find your own spot to pitch. If you are like me and like to find locations on Google Street View, the images are too old. But the campsite sign is super clear from the road so it's easy to find. I bumped into Jo before leaving and she was extremely friendly and helpful (over email too). She guided me to check out the Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve when I said I was planning to go for a walk. All reserves I've been to in Norfolk so far are wonderful places to visit, with their own unique character and of course it is the broad that sets this one apart. There's a boat tour too, but I'm saving that for next time!
Peaceful, comfy, family fun
A great find - a lovely campsite with wonderful staff (the amazing Jo), great facilities in a lovely setting with marshmallows for sale and fire pits for use. We all had a wonderful time and the walking distance to the pub is perfect for adults and small children :-)
