Tent camping and glamping on the edge of Hickling Broad National Nature Reserve, the largest of the Norfolk Broads and conveniently within driving range of the coast

Bring a bike to Hickling Campsite and you’re pretty much sorted for your stay. Everything is within pedalling distance here. It’s less than a mile to the banks of Hickling Broad, the largest waterbody in the Broads National Park and a haven for wildlife, and only four miles to the coast, where beaches and protected dunescpaes await. In the other direction, there’s Ant Marshes and several good pubs and, when you finally decide you’ve done enough pedalling, you still don’t need to get in the car. There are canoes for hire, dinghies to sail and board walks to wander, stretching out like hugging arms around Hickling Broad, leading you to tree-top huts and bird-hides in the reeds. It really is the best of the Broads parcelled up into one small area.

Cycling is also particularly easy owing to the handy flatness of the region. There are no big hills to trek up here and, consequently, Hickling Campsite itself is blessed with a perfectly flat meadow. Tents are welcome, preserving a traditional camping feel and keeping the grass in good condition, while campfires are a must – firepits are provided with every booking. Initially, tents are recommended to pitch around the edge of the meadow, allowing extra space in the middle for children to run wild and make friends, while mature hedges along the border (look out for wild raspberries in summer and blackberries in autumn) provide shelter from the breeze.

“It’s our little piece of paradise”, owners Tom and Jo proclaim. The couple grew up locally and have a very clear affection for the area. If you need more advice on where to go, they’re happy to give recommendations – should you stroll to The Greyhound Inn or to The Pleasure Boat Inn, for example; such tough decisions to make. It’s the Norfolk Wildlife Trust that look after Hickling Broad itself and a Visitor Centre is open on the shore (½ mile away) from 10am–5pm daily during summer.

There’s an excellent little picnic spot, along with toilets and a café, and you can catch boats across the water to a 60ft tall tree tower on the far side. From the top the view is outstanding and it’s a great place to soak in the surroundings. You may well find yourself agreeing with Jo and Tom too – it's a little piece of paradise indeed.

Nearby

Walk the few hundred metres to Hickling Broad, the largest of the Norfolk Broads and a designated National Nature Reserve. Board walks and footpaths allow some access (including routes to bird-hides) but for the best of it go exploring by boat – canoes and dinghies are available to hire from Whispering Reeds Boats (01692 598314). You can also do full sailing lessons and courses with the Hickling Broad Sailing Club. If you want someone else to do all the hard work for you, take one of Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s boat tours. The timetable is available here. Away from the broads, it's around 4 miles to the coast. Overstrand beach is to the north and huge Winterton Dunes National Nature Reserve is just to the south. The nearest beach is Sea Palling – 3.5 miles away – and is an excellent dog-friendly, vast sandy spot. Waxham Beach is four miles from the campsite and is one of the few beaches that not many people know about, unless you're a local or a regular visitor.

Food & Drink

Onsite they have 'The Hickling hut' which offers fresh local produce including meats, pastries, and cakes fresh-baked every day by award-winning Norwich bakery Pye Bakers. They also have an impressive all singing, all dancing coffee machine. It's a ½-mile walk to the Pleasure Boat Inn (01692 598870) down on the waterfront overlooking the Broad and just under a mile to The Greyhound (01692 598306) in Hickling where the food is excellent.

Superb find!

I don’t have much experience of camping/glamping, so husband made fun of me packing, saying he should get a plumber round so I could pack the sink! But everything was there! Superb facilities, clean loos & showers superb, everything was thought of! The coffee was amazing, it was a great exercise as took our dog for first time, so we went out of high season. A truly excellent experience. The only draw back is the road at the bottom, which seemed to be a bit of a ‘rat run’ and the walk to the closest pub, was a bit hairy with the dog. But that’s not the campsites fault!
★★★★★

Excellent site with all the amenities you could ever need!

The staff in the shop were all very friendly and helpful (when giving us some tips on what places to visit in the area), and the shop itself is very well stocked, from marshmallows to packs of cards! So if you've left anything at home there is no need to panic. The site itself has great facilities including fire pits for each pitch, washing up facilities (they even provide free washing up liquid), showers, toilets, drinking water, and freezers. The toilets and showers are cleaned at least twice a day, and hot water takes literally just seconds to come through. All in all this is a great campsite, and for two relative novices like us, it was a totally stress free and relaxed few days away. Can't recommend highly enough. Mark & Wendy Teverson

You made our baby moon so special, thank you.

The clean, beautiful, well facilitated and friendly environment of our trip made our baby moon so special! The owl hut was such a perfect place to relax, enjoy regardless if the weather and chill next to the fire with the brazier that comes free with the camping (only a tiny fee for a good portion of firewood also!). The facilities where spot on, clean and easy to use but didn't move anything away from the classic camping experience! The little cafe and shop was adorable and very useful of you want those little extra bits such as local produce and meat for your dinner by the fire. The mattress was unbelievably comfy and super snug and warm. Lanterns were supplied with lovely looking plates, cutlery, bowls and glasses. I would recommend Hickling camping site to anyone. DOGS ALSO! Family fun with local activities around you and great quality food from pubs just a little walk or drive away! It is a must! Thank you again! Dan & Elle

Quiet getaway, most tranquil

The campsite.... Lovely field beautiful location on site shop, and a coffee machine for the perfect latter when you awake. Toilets and seperate showers which were both clean and lovely!! The simple little touches that keep surprising you, like a fire pit/bbq, with logs there to buy.. Freezers, charging point. And a lovely pub 10 minutes down the road. This place is a must and cheap prices.. And also somewhere to wash up, liquid provided of course..... THIS CAMPSITE IS NEARLY PERFECT

Fantastic week!!!

My wife And i camped here together, for the first time this year,I camped here last year on a fishing holiday, what can I say, everything you could ask for , spotless toilets, showers immaculate, staff always friendly, shop a god send !!! Locally sourced produce and a cheeky latte ,gets busy on a weekend and can get a little loud with the Chardonnay sets arrival on a Friday night, but don't let that put you off the owners and staff do a great job here it's a credit to them,we will be back.

Relaxing and considerate

I've never been glamping before but the owl hut was a great place to spend our one night away. It seems these guys really know what they're doing. We had everything we needed there. It was nice to buy some sausages, bread, and brown sauce from the on site shop in the morning to cook some breakfast on the fire pit. The showers were excellent, and all the facilities were well thought out. Only recommendation is that it would be nice if there were some hooks inside the owl hut to hang your coats! And also maybe some hooks on the outside of the hut to hang kitchen utensils while they were in use. The staff at the shop were really informative and polite You might want to book a table at a nearby pub ahead of time if you plan on doing that! We would definitely return here.

Absolutely amazing

We stayed in the owl hut for 2 nights and it was perfect. Was very relaxed atmosphere on campsite and staff were lovely especially the young boy who ran the shop. Utilities were very clean. I was so sad to leave the hut there was so many nice touches, marshmallows to toast on the campsite, popcorn and elderflower cordial. Loads of cooking utensils too. Absolutely loved it.

Six adults and two dogs go camping in Hickling.

We found the campsite to be very relaxed. We were able to pitch our three tents together in a cosy corner. The site was small but had all the facilities you needed including a small shop on site. It was nice to have a proper loo and the showers were nice and powerful. Everything was spotless. Our fellow campers were all a very friendly bunch. We would certainly be happy to go here again.

Great campsite in a good location for the broads.

Facilities were good - toilets, showers etc. Not too crowded and quiet overnight. A really useful website that has lots of activity suggestions. Located right on the broads so ideal for visiting the area.

Brilliant couple of day’s camping

This was the first time I had camped in over 20 years and my daughters first time. We couldn’t fault the site, informal, relaxed atmosphere, clean facilities and handy little shop. It was also good that the no noise after 10pm was adhered to. Location of the site was also good for exploring Norfolk. Would definitely recommend to others wanting to camp in the area.

OK, but weather was against us; perhaps a little featureless but nice atmosphere

Weather was pretty awful and we left early; firepits are a nice addition, but in the wind, it didn’t really warm us up, just breathed in a lot of smoke! The logs burnt v quickly: more like a bag of kindling, so we were getting through a lot of wood (£5 per bag). Nice coffee shack and cabins as you come in, but the field was, maybe, a bit featureless? Only there for a couple of nights and unfortunately that was when the hot water was off because of mechanical issues. Cost seems a bit high at about £50 per night for a couple of kids and a tent?

Spacious plots, great showers, clean communal areas

It was unfortunately windy and the site was a bit open but the facilities were really good

Lovely well run campsite

A nice quiet campsite, with lovely touches such as easy wood and lighters (and marshmallows..). We stayed in Shepherd's Hut - lovely interiors for the huts, which are cosy. The facilities were a really high standard, the best campsite shower I've had....

Best campsite I have been to.

This is my favourite campsite. Stayed here twice and we will be back next year. As soon as you enter there is a feeling of calm as you see the friendly signs and tasteful buildings. Everything you need is here with none of the stuff you don't. It's a great place for children to run around, explore and make new friends. Facilities are spotless and easy to use and each pitch has a fire pit, with wood, fire lighters and marshmallows all available 24 hours from a small hut. The shop has lots of local produce. This is a perfect place for families to relax and enjoy the Broads at their best.

Amazing campsite

Just back from our second stay at hickling campsite and I just do not have a bad word to say about it. We stayed in the duck hut, which is well equipped with everything you need for your stay, you don’t need to worry about a thing. All the little extras such as washing up bowl and fairy liquid, all utensils, lanterns. It’s all there!! It’s very chilled out when you arrive, no long check in/out ques, everything is sign posted and leaves no guessing, there is now a little onsite shop, which sells everything you need, such as hot drinks, cakes, sausage rolls, meat, milk etc. The fire pit is brilliant, you can purchase wood at your own leisure which is a good price. There’s a phone charging facility if needed. The toilets and showers are clean and tidy and I saw them being cleaned numerous times by friendly staff. The hand sanitizer dotted about is a lovely touch in present times. The site is quiet and clean and tidy with a friendly atmosphere. I’m already trying to book our return again before the summer is out. I am also looking forward to trying out the new campsite when ready. Loved every minute of our stay, the only downside was the rain!!

A very well run and designed site. No bells and whistles but everything you need is there and works well.

This is a great campsite. It is clearly designed and run by people who understand all the little annoyance's you often get on other sites and have avoided them all. Just to take the showers as an example: they are spacious with plenty of power and just the right temperature. No timer push buttons - just an on/off valve. The floor is of wooden decking so no puddles, and there is a seat and clothes-hook so no problem finding somewhere to put your clothes. I would guess the site was nearly full when we were there and I never found any queues for the loos or showers. All the buildings are wood so no ugly breeze-block wash-houses. Everything is kept very clean. There is minimum bureaucracy - e.g. there is no reception - just find a pitch and put your tent up (assuming you have pre-booked). We booked initially for two nights and extended for another two - we saw no reason to try anywhere else. We would certainly go back.

Perfect glamping experience

My daughter and I stayed in one of the shepherd’s huts and loved it. The hut was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The campsite amenities were on par. And the staff were very friendly and helpful. I just can’t fault it. We had the perfect stay.
★★★★★

Relaxed and quiet

Very chilled out, just turn up and pitch. Showers hot and always available, all kept clean & tidy. No noise after 10pm which all campers respected, literally could only here the owls hooting after this time (& occasionally the creak from the toilet doors that need a little oil!😉) Just very small minor point was that the solar lights weren’t working in the toilets during our stay, but other than that could not fault the campsite- great stay thanks for having us!
★★★★★

Lovely place to camp

Great campsite friendly staff, laid back feel, great facilities and very clean, can have fire at night, small shop with coffee and cake, milk and also good quality burgers and sausages for barbecue. Warm showers every time and place for freezing ice block and charging mobile phone..all very well thought out. Great location for going on the broads and also to seaside and some great beaches nearby. We saw seals from the beach. Also went to local pub which is close by and was really good. We would definitely go back.

Fantastic campsite, great facilities, great hosts

This is a fantastic campsite. It’s well proportioned with good facilities. What really makes it though is the attention to detail and the lovely shop run by probably the nicest two people you’ll meet. There’s an honesty shop for after hours with logs, marshmallows, kebab sticks etc. The beautiful wooden shop opens at 7.30am with delicious takeaway coffee (all sorts, choice of non dairy milks), pastries, juice, milk, fabulous sausages and bacon, bread… they even managed to find us a toothbrush! We can’t rate this site highly enough, there is no noise after 10pm, it is quiet and tranquil, a 15 minute walk to the pub and a fish and chip van on Fridays parks in the pub car park. We had a wonderful stay.
★★★★★

Peaceful and comfortable

The facilities on site are excellent - block of 4 loos, 3 hot showers, washing up sinks etc, all cleaned regularly. The free braziers provided with each pitch are brilliant - we cooked on them every night and it makes such a diffence to have a proper fire! Surrounding countryside does not disappoint; we did a 23 mile bike ride around the local villages and gorgeous countryside - plenty of excellent watering holes nearby - the Crown in Smallburgh is now a firm favourite. On site shop/firewood was a bonus. No loud groups or parties, all the other campers were families and young couples and were respectful and lovely.
★★★★★

Perfect getaway

We stayed 3 nights in the duck hut, it was perfect for 2 adults and a baby. The decoration made it feel homely and it had everything we needed inside cutlery, plates, bowls, utensils etc. The showers were warm and spacious - the loos and sink areas were always kept spotless. The shop was great especially if you need some milk or olive oil. Would throughly recommend, especially toasting marshmallows on the fire pit!!
★★★★★

A peaceful, relaxing & friendly site

The staff were super friendly and welcoming, the showers were clean, powerful and hot and the BBQ/fire pits provided were a god-send. Loved the fact the site wasn't huge, and pitches nicely spaced out. Great honesty box for wood supplies and marshmallows. We bought all our meals from the little shop (amazing sausages, burgers and steak) - very convenient. Great to be near Hickling Broad and also the coast where we loved watching the resident seal colony :)

Fabulous weekend

A wonderful campsite. Plenty of space, flat grass to pitch on. Plenty of braziers to use for wood fires. Lovely little shop selling hot drinks and other basics. Great pork pies and scotch eggs. Really clean good toilet and shower facilities. Fabulous beaches and wildlife on the doorstep. Hickling Broad to see swallowtail butterflies and Marsh harriers. Wonderful relaxing happy weekend. We hope to return.

Superb Site!

What a lovely site! Small, peaceful and the friendliest staff we’ve ever encountered on a campsite. They truly made our stay! We stayed for 3 nights in Hare Hut which was simple, clean, very comfortable and warm. The showers are excellent! Hot with strong pressure and enough space to not feel cramped. The Hickling Hut shop is excellent and a great bonus to the site, as is the Honesty Hut. Our children (9 & 7yrs) loved running up and down the expanse of grass, playing chess and giant Jenga outside the Hut, and collecting the morning pastries. They even willingly did the washing up at the excellent outdoor wash facilities! We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings recounting the adventures of our day around the huge fire-pit, toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate - wonderful family downtime. A real slice of tranquility and comfort in the outdoors.

well equipped camp site in good location

I have done a fair amount of wild camping and stayed on some pretty basic camp sites with my three(now adult) sons. My wife had never been camping so in an attempt to persuade her of the benefits of the outdoor life I selected Hickling Campsite for her debut. The good news is that she enjoyed the experience-helped greatly by the spotless toilet/showers/washing up facilities and running hot water. The camp site was in a great location near fabulous beaches and we also enjoyed a boat trip on Hickling Broad. It was a shame the shop wasn't open during our stay but all in all a very well maintained site.

Great spot, quiet, but close to pubs and broads. Really liked the flexibility of check in and check out. Kept impeccably clean all day. Showers are very good- hot and no time limits. Thought the design and build of the toilets, washing up sinks and shower block was ingenious and very well done. Would recommend to any campers and it was great not to have the caravan and camper brigade for a change!

Such a wonderful site

Just returned from a 6 night camping stay with my husband and 2 children (5 and 4 years). We had a fantastic stay! The toilets, showers and pot washing station were kept exceptionally clean with hand sanitiser placed at regular touch points. The showers were warm with good pressure. The site has glamping opportunities and a field for non electric tent pitches. The shop was also a welcome addition to my last stay a few years ago! The local beaches are amazing! I would definitely stay here again and hope to return for another holiday.

Perfect

Chic camping. We stayed in the Hare Hut a pitched a couple of tents outside it. The staff were friendly, everything about the set up is very considered. Hot, clean showers, awesome fire cooker and a great cafe / shop. The hut could maybe have been improved with a couple of extra shelves for the food storage and some bolts to keep the table attached to the wall, but wouldn’t change anything else. Would recommend to any of my family and friends (and we’re pretty fussy about where we stay). Beautiful unspoilt coastline close by with seals - made it for the kids. And a great pub called The Swan in Ingham nearby.

A little treasure

A lovely flat site, with a very chilled attitude. Plentiful fire pits provided for your campfire, with logs available to buy on site. Pitch where you like - disconcerting at first, but seems to work :-). Consider ear plugs if you think the joyous squeals of children having fun (or the less joyous ones of the odd tantrum!) or the occasional dog barking, is going to bother you. Facilities extremely clean, and cleaned regularly, with plenty of sanitiser etc. Handy shop selling the useful and the treat. A big Tesco in Stalham for convenience, but loads of farm shops locally (google maps is your friend), and the village stores in Ludham has everything you might need (so Tesco can be avoided), including chilled white wine. Kayak and paddle board hire from Norfolk Outdoor Adventures in Hickling, cycle friendly lanes. A small selection of maps and books available at the NWT Nature Reserve in Hickling. Sea Palling has amusements and fish and chips (very low key), Horsey for seals, all the beaches we visited were lovely big expanses of sand. Recommend Ross's Wildlife Tours (boat) from Horsey Windpump NT. Can also go on a boat trip in the Marshes from How Hill Nature Reserve. The Nature Reserve at Hickling is lovely, also the stretch of the Weavers' Way along Hickling Broad is enchanting. Highly recommended, thank you for a lovely stay.

Best campsite shower you will ever have!

Campsite shower block and toilets are fantastic. Really modern, but very tastefully built, clean facilities. The showers are spacious, powerful and warm. Little shop was well stocked and staff were friendly. Fires are allowed and logs were available. Campsite field could do with being a bit bigger, felt a little cramped. Price is pretty high. Overall enjoyed our stay here.

Lovely night’s stay at Hickling Campsite

I booked the Stag Hut at Hickling Campsite for me and my boyfriend for one night. When we arrived a hamper had been left in our room by the owners of the campsite which had marshmallows for roasting on the fire, popcorn and a bottle of flavoured water! The hut was really lovely and cosy and had all you needed with plates, cups and glasses. The hut came with tables and chairs outside and a fire pit which was really lovely to sit by in the evening. The firewood can be bought on the campsite and money left in a honesty box. The showers and toilets were spotless and the water in the showers was nice and warm! The campsite has a little shop on it to buy drinks, bbq food and other bits and pieces which is really handy! We both said we would definitely come back and rebook, it was a really lovely place to stay!

Good site, but a bit noisy at night

We spent a lovely 4 days at Hickling just after the campsite was opened after lock down. Although the facilities are basic, the showers are the best ones on any site we have been to. Great shop, free fire pits to use, loads of cleaning going on because of covid and lots of sanitiser stations and soap around. Staff where lovely. Only down side for us was the large groups of families, which took over the site (gazebos everywhere). Site became very noisy at night with constant dogs barking and children having meltdowns/screaming, not really relaxing and we felt a bit hemmed in. Having said that it's a great site and we did some lovely walking and canoeing on the broads.

Adventures & Star Gazing

Trailblazing trendsetters, this cool as a cucumber campsite hits all the right notes for a sumptuously luxurious glamping stay. An easy to find destination with idyllic surroundings with a big Norfolk sky as extra for the star gazers amongst us. We stayed in the Shepherds Hut (with sheep detailing) which was nestled in amongst truly delectable raspberries which you can forage for whilst you stay - we gobbled these down for breakfast, lunch, dinner & snuck some into our campers cocktails. A hamper of Norfolk goodies met us in the hut on arrival, marshmallows, cordials, popcorn the works it was an impressive start to say the least. There are home comforts galore from hot *clean as a whistle* showers, easy to use washing up facilities and spacious toilets with plenty of loo roll. The hut itself was spacious & the sleeping area cosy & comfortable (I slept like a log). Food is a priority of the camping people & Hickling Campsite did not disappoint. Hickling Hut was full to the brim of tasty goodies, from your Norwich Porridge to your bbq meats & everything in between. We ate locally one night at the pleasure boat inn where there are plenty of chatty people willing to share stories of their adventures (make sure you take a torch to get home, 15 mins walk) A log cabin of delights on site were available to us too, extra wood for the fire to make your tea & bbqs with free firelighters to boot! There were extra marshmallows to purchase & even matches for those forgetful among us. We didn't want to travel too far from the campsite as it was tip top as it was, but we did find some seriously special places. Waxham with its golden sands & what felt like a secret entrance, Whispering Reeds boat hire was ridiculously fun for a few hours, somewhere else worth a mention was Hickling Reserve also known as Norfolk Wildlife Trust we didn't go quite at the right season for bird watching but its a great space to explore any time of year. All in all this distinctive unusual campsite is worth a visit, you will leave feeling refreshed & wanting more. We will certainly make this a yearly tradition, think we will be looking into the canal camping next ! Bell tents here we come! Thanks Jo & Tom x

Quiet, great facilities....just lovely

Stayed for just a couple of nights. The facilities were lovely and clean. With a small number of tents on site , they were also free to use with no queues. Showers - better than at many hotels I've stayed in. Pitches ….flat as a pancake. All in all , just what our party needed ….and really well done. I think i'll be back!

Lovely relaxed campsite

Facilities were great with rustic charm and very clean! Little shop is a lovely touch as are the fire pits, logs & marshmallows. Great for families wanting to have a break from technology!

Nice but a little small

Good (if basic) wash and toilet facilities with a lovely camp shop and friendly staff, situated in a charming part of the world. Only issues were that, when busy, it felt crowded and with nowhere else in the surrounding fields for our (or anyone else's) children to run around, it felt a little claustrophobic. And when dry the ground is hard as cement (we went through a lot of pegs...)

Lovely chilled campsite

We stayed for our second visit with our 4 children August 3rd - 5th and loved it! The owners have nailed every little detail from the hand painted signs, clean toilets/showers, firewood shed and and the fab addition of the Hickling hut which stocks loads of locally sourced treats and essentials. We will definitely be returning and might try out one of the cute shepherds huts next time! Thanks Jo and the rest of the staff for making our trip extra special ♥️

A bit too free and easy

I stayed for three nights, arriving on June 10 '19 and leaving on June 13. Lovely relaxed campsite and well situated site with excellent facilities, a very friendly owner and helpful, welcoming staff. Then why only three stars you may ask? Well, my stay was ruined by a large extended family who didn't want to follow the "no music at anytime of the day" and "quiet after 10PM" rules after arriving on Friday afternoon. These rules are buried in a glossy brochure handed to weekend arrivals that I doubt anyone reads. I wasn't about to phone up Jo, the site manager who lives offsite, and complain at 11PM on a Friday night. After reminding the family of the rules I was laughed at and accused of not being polite enough in my request for them to tone it down! Personal abuse shouted into the night followed soon after. The families with kids nearby must've really enjoyed hearing that. I'd suggest a polite but prominent sign at the facilities reminding visitors of these rules and to respect other people in a shared space. It's Hickling Campsite, not Glastonbury and it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel... I left two days early to find another place to stay.

Great site

Stayed here for three nights with my husband and two children, 12 & 9. Hickling is a fantastic campsite. Despite the site being almost ‘full’ over the weekend, there was plenty of space on the flat field for neighbours to be a good distance away and children to play. The site is very quiet with a lovely chilled atmosphere. No electric, just tents, with spotlessly clean toilets, showers and washing up sinks. There is a very small shop open weekends and a freezer to keep ice packs cold. Very relaxed, lovely friendly staff, what more could you want. Near to beaches and the broads. We will definitely be back.

Camping paradise

This is one of the very best campsites we’ve ever stayed at. Immaculately clean showers, plentiful hot water, spotless grass that we were happy to let our baby crawl around on, free braziers, peaceful location, I could go on and on. Jo and Tom have thought of everything to make their site so beautiful and easy to camp at. Also a lovely lack of rules and regs signs, too. Pure escapism. We’ll be back x

Lovely campsite, great area for holidays!

We stayed for a weekend here as a group of 4 families, but we had plenty of space for kids to run around, and a sense of privacy despite the open camping field. The shop on site was very useful and the owners were wonderfully friendly. Lovely pub within walking distance (though partly down a fairly busy road which was a bit unnerving with the smaller kids in our party) and we had a great time at a nearby beach (Happisburgh) and at the local nature reserve. Hopefully we will come back before too long!

Campsite is in a great location a short drive from Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Managed by the lovely Jo, the vibe is enjoy yourselves and take it easy (prime example is the honesty box for the wood) backed by amazing shower facilities. Great 1st camping experience

We went for 2 nights in midweek may half term with 4 children and the dog. The campsite was clean, comfortable and very friendly. We got good local advice from Jo, the owner, and a lady that keeps the site clean and tidy (Sorry, I never asked your name). There's a well stocked shop (including meat for bbqs). Great roomy, clean showers and toilet/washing areas. For those who don't want to sleep in a tent, there are nice shepherd huts.

Rare gem of a campsite

Booked the Pod for one night on short notice, found it to be comfortable clean and well equipped. Didn’t actually use the fire pit but the logs are reasonably priced if you want to use them, toilets are clean nice warm showers. All in all great place to stay will loads of things to do in close proximity. Pod would benefit from a kettle as this is the only place with electricity

What a terrific campsite

We stayed for three nights at the end of the summer. Me, my son (10YO) and daughter (7YO). The facilities were great: clean loos, hot showers, hardly ever any queues, despite a full campsite. Spacious flat pitches. Lots of room for the kids to run about. Campfires encouraged, with wood matches, marshmallows all available at reasonable prices. Minimal light means that on clear nights the stars are spectacular. Tom & Jo are super-friendly, attentive, and responsive hosts. The area is wonderful. Walking distance to Hickling Board where we hired kayaks. A short drive to Norfolk beaches (Mundesley was our favourite) and Great Yarmouth for seaside larks. Short drive to a supermarket. Lots of lovely walks and nature. We'll be back soon for sure.

Spot on

Tom & Jo have the site spot on. Just returned from a two night stay in the pod. Accompanied by 3 friends who pitched tents. Where to start .......... The Pod: very clean, electric points, clever set up of a table that turns into a comfortable bed, dimmer light, and lots more. Marshmallows, popcorn and a bottle of soft drink waiting for us - great touch. Mustn’t forget the fire pit, already found it on the web to buy!!! The site: toilets, showers and washing up area are spotless. The hut with wood, kindling and marshmallows to buy were a nice touch. Tom and Jo: only got to chat with Jo, passionate about keeping everyone happy, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Things to do: the Greyhound pub food was of a high standard. The pleasure boat served great fish and chips. You must go and see the seals, lovely sight. All in all a fab weekend had by all. We will be back 🤗

Good local pubs You wont find: An over expensive shop Loud "entertainment" Playparks or swimming pool.

An amazing first camping holiday, the facilities were great and the owners Tom and Jo were very friendly and relaxed.

This was our first experience at camping, and wow it was a fantastic experience. The site was very clean, the toilets and showers were cleaned regularly. It was nice to chose where you would like to pitch your tent instead of being told where to go and don't feel settled. Jo and Tom have made this a very relaxing site, with all you need to have a wonderful time, One of the nice things here was on your departure day there was no stipulation as to what time you had to leave the site, so even on your last day you could take your time and not have to rush about. The location was great , it was in a quiet spot but near enough to alovely beach in sea palling if you want some beach days. We had a meal at the local pub one night and the food was lovely (the greyhound). I certainly will be returning to here next year and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends . Congratulations Jo and Tom your little paradise has won me over to the camping world. Thanks again for an amazing stay.

BH Weekend Away

My daughter, husband I stayed in 'Duck' - one of 3 lovely little shepherd huts. The interior was beautiful and cosy and having our own bit of land for my daughter to play in was perfect. The campsite itself is lovely and it was so nice to wake up and have an outdoor shower first thing in the glorious sunshine (the water is warm and the showers are clean and spacious). We really enjoyed our time here and the campsite is near lots of beautiful villages and broads etc. Great place for walks and bike rides and near lovely little beaches. Great weekend overall!

Great Bank holiday stay

Lovely campsite, very laid back, guest welcome, bags of firewood available for £5. Only downside is some of the field was boggy and sections off so kids had less space to play, but otherwise all facilities clean and well maintained

Relaxing and welcoming

I can't compare to other sites as I'm new to camping, but I seem to have chosen a great place to start my camping adventures. The atmosphere is really relaxed with no designated pitches or check-ins for tent camping; you just turn up and the friendly notices guide you to find your own spot to pitch. If you are like me and like to find locations on Google Street View, the images are too old. But the campsite sign is super clear from the road so it's easy to find. I bumped into Jo before leaving and she was extremely friendly and helpful (over email too). She guided me to check out the Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve when I said I was planning to go for a walk. All reserves I've been to in Norfolk so far are wonderful places to visit, with their own unique character and of course it is the broad that sets this one apart. There's a boat tour too, but I'm saving that for next time!
