You feel like you’ve reached the end of the world once you get here – which is fine, as there’s so much to do

The Waveney River Centre is an oasis of activity in what truly feels like the middle of nowhere down in the southern Broads. It’s many things rolled into one: it’s a well-equipped campsite, right by the water but it also has a number of holiday lodges. It also offers moorings to hire boats and rents out day boats and canoes at what must be one of the best locations from which to explore this part of the Broads national park – a location which also offers plenty of opportunity for glorious walks and cycle rides.

The long-distance Angles Way passes nearby, just across the river, the Wherryman’s Way a little way north, and the countryside around is as peaceful a corner of England as you’ll find.

There are 17 pitches for tourers and 35 for tents, and they come in various sizes, from ‘Coot’ (12m x 10m) to 'Pintail' (6m x 4m). All have views over the water and are spacious enough to accommodate your car. Plus, all have electric hook-ups.

The site is partly supplied by solar energy and has an energy-efficient pool and low-energy lighting throughout; pretty much everything is recycled, and the centre has won the David Bellamy conservation award 3 years running. But maybe the best – and greenest – thing they have done is to reinstate the foot ferry across the river which not only gives access to beautiful Carlton Marshes and Oulton Broad but has made the car journey from Lowestoft to Waveney about six times shorter.

All in all a very peaceful retreat, but with plenty to keep you entertained.

The Owner Says

We're a family-owned 5-star Park with a small, motivated staff team who are devoted to making you happy so that you'll want to visit us again and tell your friends about Norfolk's hidden gem. We've achieved the David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award for the past 9 years and won 4 EDP Norfolk Tourism Awards for Customer Service, Best Holiday Park and Best Broads Experience. Our Park has a strong eco-focus and we strive to ensure that our activities support and enhance the unique wetland environment of the Broads.

We want you to leave your car keys alone and just relax and enjoy our little corner of the Broads National Park. You can swim in our indoor heated pool and we've an adventure playground and wildlife garden too which should exhaust the kids nicely. If you fancy exploring the river then we've day cruisers, canoes and kayaks to hire. For a good walk - short or long - you need only jump on our ferry across to the Carlton Marshes nature reserve where you can see the Broads in miniature, before taking a stroll to the local town of Oulton Broad or even Beccles.

When visiting our holiday park, you'll not only love the fabulous view across the marina and river, but also appreciate the privacy of our heated, individual shower & wash rooms - each with WC, basin & hair dryer. There are 2 larger family shower rooms as well as a disabled friendly facility, a separate ladies & gents WC block and an indoor wash up area with 6 large sinks. Our launderette has commercial coin-up washing machines & dryers, an ironing board & iron and we've even got our own Information Centre to help you plan your days out.

All pitches on our main camping area have electric hookup, but if you prefer the wilder side of camping we've a separate area close to the river and marsh which has no hookups or lighting - though you can still use our shower, WC & washup facilities of course.

New for 2017 - Nomadic glamping yurts. Nestled along the back row of our campsite, our 7 yurts all have fantastic views of the river Waveney and Carlton Marshes nature reserve. They measure 5m across and feature a double bed and sofa bed, plug sockets, plus an electric heater, wood burning stove and insulated roof to make cold evenings cosy. Each yurt sits on its own deck for sitting out on, or cooking.

There's a friendly pub and a large shop too - giving you everything you need for your relaxing break on the Broads.

★★★★☆

relaxing site

This is a good site and well out of the way, it is very peaceful and we woke up with the sound of cuckoos across the broads. This facility is part of a bigger complex based around the river, so there are quite a few boats and the campers feel a bit like an after thought. The facilities are good but are shared with the people from the boats, so they may be busy.
