A well located Norfolk campsite with great access to the coast, fens and traditional market towns

Once crowded with seafaring merchants importing French wines and Scandinavian fish, the bustling streets of King's Lynn drew crowds from across the country. The green edges of this maritime metropolis seemed the perfect place for wealthy William Gurney to build his grand mansion. But as sailing boats dwindled and the crowds began to fade, his illustrious home was torn down leaving only its extensive grounds. Centuries later, medieval streets and charming quaysides are the towns centrepiece once again and while Silly Willy may have demolished his home, we campers can doth our cap to what’s been left behind; a grassy parkland and an ideal setting for a family campsite.

Capitalising on this prized position in the village of Runcton is King's Lynn Caravanning & Camping Park, a pleasant site, dotted with century-old trees and equipped for every kind of camper. Tent-pitchers and van-parkers will love the generously-sized spaces, while the hedgerows that border each of the three fields help add extra shelter. Those hoping for a few more creature comforts can hire one of the eight luxury pods, fitted with heaters, fridges, microwave and a kettle, along with comfortable double beds and a folding sofa bed (allowing four people to sleep with ease). All of the pods and pitches share the two heated sanitary blocks, built to top eco-friendly standards and kept spotlessly clean.

It’s a short trip from the campsite into town and, while the history of King's Lynn has left elegant Georgian buildings, a pleasant waterfront and a couple of good museums, the site is also well poised for trips to the North Norfolk Coast and The Fens. A host of fantastic nature reserves are on the doorstep and some of Norfolk’s best beaches are well within half an hour's drive. Speedy access to this wealth of attractions is down to the nearby A47 and if you’re not used to traffic noise it’s best to steer clear of the field nearest the road. Elsewhere, the sounds of chirping birds dominates and the tranquility of the campsite creates an escape from that everyday hum.

Whether you’re a family spending days on the beach, couples touring the quaint flint villages or a full-scale rally staying in the spacious extra field, King's Lynn Caravanning & Camping Park balances top location with a welcoming atmosphere. It's an easy place to settle down and bask in the satisfaction of simply being on holiday. Sit back, relax and browse through the folder of local recommendations, taking your pick of the endless places to go.

The 2 underfloor heated sanitary blocks include showers, toilets, laundry, disabled facilities, indoor & outdoor washing up and a family bathroom with baby changing table/bath. There is Wi-fi and ice pack freezing. Gas is available to purchase in the small onsite shop and in the area around the pods there are picnic tables and brick BBQ's. A motorhome service area and chemical disposal points are also onsite. A separate field allows space for large rallies or groups without disturbing other campers. Car parking by pitch.

Suitable For

Tents, caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and glampers. Families and groups welcome (including D of E), rallies and well-behaved student groups - yes.

Kings Lynn is on the doorstep, its old centre clustered around the banks of The Great Ouse. Where the river slides into The Wash, a nature reserve (08456 003078) merges into the arching seafront of the North Norfolk Coast. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to fantastic beaches, a spattering of nature reserves and backed by pleasant seaside towns, such as Hunstanton (01485 532610) and Heacham. The Sandringham Estate(01485 545400) is also close by, as is Castle Rising(08703 331181) and Houghton Hall (01485 528569). Inland, the market town of Downham Market acts as a gateway to The Fens, preceded by quaint rural villages, most of which will have proper local pubs.

Food & Drink

A small onsite shop sells camping essentials while a large retail park is a short drive away, the easiest place to grab some groceries. Fish & chips can be delivered to your pitch, while The Gate Inn (01553 840518) is a 20 minute walk or 3 minute drive away. Head into nearby Kings Lynn for a wider range of eateries.

Beautiful clean site

Lovely clean site , easy to find, friendly staff who take you to your pitch and let you choose one if available. Toilets always clean staff are really helpful No noise after 10pm is definitely a bonus Thankyou and will definitely come back again

Excellent Camping Experience!

This campsite was full of friendly faces, the staff were very helpful and kind. The other campers made you feel welcome too. The facilities were great, showers and toilets were clean and covid safe.

Great site - for a very windy weekend

Lovely site on the Norfolk coast with easy access to Hunstanton and Cromer. We chose one of the wettest and windiest weekend’s to visit but we still had a good time. The men in the site shop were a great help and had a good sense of humour too !!. They also sent a man to help up with a water problem on our Motorhome which we Greatly appreciated. Would love to stay again.

Functional site, good amenity block but close to noisy roads

We stayed for 2 nights. The owners were friendly, it wasn't expensive, and the amenity block we had was good. Our pitch was OK but the site isn't in a secluded area and we found the road noise intrusive.

Does exactly what it says on the tin

This is a good touring park with excellent washing facilities. Nice flat pitches with soft soil. My only negative is the proximity of pitches to each other, though they are all within social distancing rules.

Really pleasant stay

Stayed for two nights at the beginning of September. Campsite is well placed for Kings Lynn centre and for touring around. A dog friendly site. Ample size plot in well screened field. Modern toilet/shower block was immaculate at all times. Staff all very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Nice site, well looked after

Good points: Electric hook ups convenient, clean and warm shower/toilet blocks, nice site generally, quiet. Not so good points: Very muddy in places, considerable distance from Kings Lynn centre and shops and supermarkets, poor public transport connections.

Lovely site

Our first time camping and we were all nervous! The toilets and showers were immaculate and these are in the centre of the site. We were pitched on the electric hook ups next to the park which was ideal location for the kids. The site itself isn’t far from supermarkets, restaurants etc

Great weekend

Just got back from a great weekend. Small group of us with kids. Site is well set up and friendly, very safe with social distancing measures in place. Toilets and showers clean and maintained. Small and easy to get around with loads of trees. Downside was there wasn’t a play area for kids, and also silence expected after 10pm (although this went out the window on the Saturday night) Great base to adventure out from.

Just a 4 night stay for us but this was a lovely campsite, very friendly & helpful staff, clean facilities (which despite social distancing measures reducing capacity, were never too busy) and a well-stocked shop. Our tent pitch was a good size and we did it notice any noise from the main road nearby. Very handy for the retail park and for King’s Lynn itself. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Great setting, with amenities close. Very helpful and friendly staff, pitches were spacious and clean. Shower and toilet blocks in excellent condition, with social distancing measures in place. Had a lovely time and would recommend to anyone

Good facilities and friendly staff

Really nice campsite with big pitches. Shower block clean with hot water and clean toilets. Having access to a freezer was invaluable during the heatwave! On site shop really handy and not overpriced. Only downside was we were next to the road which isn't a busy road but has a lot of tractors that generate a lot of noise.

Great site to explore from

Clean facilities and great little shop. Pitch sizes were great. However could be better marked on the grass as when we left for the day someone pitched their tent 3 metres over to our pitch and we lost the parking space. Not the site fault but if they had markers for the start and end pitch would be better. Or lines in the grass. Some noise from the road which was clear in the reviews, sounds really loud early in the am. We stayed 3 nights

it was okay

its not a huge camp site as it shows in Internet. Its kind of in a village without any proper view or anything. But it has all the facilities

Ideal location

I stayed for 1 night on a non electric tent pitch. The site is clean and tidy and the field well maintained. The biggest negative is the close proximity of the road which is noisy even through the night. Maybe caravans would be better suited at that point and the tents located further away? The shower and toilet block is very clean with nice hot water.

Lovely site

The site is very nice. The showers are toilets are great and very clean. We camped for a night, unfortunately, I found it too noisy with a main road near. The kids slept well though.

Well sited pods with BBq faculties right next to them.

Just south of Kings Lynn and well placed for nature reserves and birding spots. Quiet even though near busy main road. Very clean showers and toilets regularly maintained. We had free WiFi. Family run and very friendly and accommodating.

First time out

Our first night away in our campervan.  Keeping it simple, this was a great site to test our novice skills. Impeccable showers and toilets. Good kitchen washing facilities. Nice walk to Fair Green to the Gate Inn which served a humongous steak pie and served a great pint. The campsite wasn't busy, nice and quiet apart from the odd RAF jet overhead.  Would use again
