Meadow Camping

  • Good walks nearby
Back-to-basics camping in rural Norfolk, peaceful, no music, with views of a working windmill and within driving distance of the beach.

Home to some of the most fertile soils in the UK, Norfolk is fabled farmer country and, as a result, it’s beautiful camping country too. Big skies, big views, fields of barley shimmering in the breeze and, here in Bircham, a picture-perfect windmill to gaze out upon as you stride across the footpaths. It’s a timeless scene, best enjoyed from a rather timeless campsite, which, though it may only have opened in 2020, is exactly what Meadow Camping is.

The simple, no-nonsense name of the campsite is perhaps symbolic of what you’ll find here. This is classic camping of old with a spacious eight-acres of meadow to spread out on and only tents allowed. Open for just 56 days in 2020, this is a true ‘pop-up’ campsite, with portable toilet facilities, a couple of showers and a few fresh water taps to get your drinking and washing-up water from. Otherwise it’s all about space, freedom and enjoying a good campfire.

It’s around six or seven miles to the beach, depending on which one you chose. The semi-circular hump of North Norfolk and the inland location of the campsite mean that, whichever direction you radiate out on, you’ll eventually come to a good sweep of sand, be it Hunstanton beach (best for a little town life), Brancaster Beach (best for nearby pubs) or Holkham (best for space and all-weather wandering, with woods to shelter in if it rains). The Sandringham Estate is also nearby – it’s possible to cycle – but no stay here would be complete without following the footpath to the windmill and climbing to the top. You can see the milling wheels at work and even try baking your own bread with their flour. It’s a timeless experience indeed. And rather tasty too.

Toilets are of the portable kind and there are two gas-powered hot showers. Water taps dotted around. Campfires are permitted but must be raised off the grass. Good access to footpaths. Strictly no music on site!! This is a peaceful site so please respect your neighbours and the wildlife around you.

Suitable For

Tents, dogs (on a lead) – yes. Campervans, caravans – no.

It's a one-mile walk to Bircham Windmill, the only working windmill in the area and the main attraction locally, with family activities, an excellent bakery where you can bake your own bread and the opportunity to climb the windmill to the balcony behind the sails. Brancaster offers the closest beach (it's about a 10-minute drive). Walk half a mile left from the entrance and you can sometimes spot grey seals, who reside in the marshes around Titchwell Nature Reserve (01485 210779). Hunstanton beach is also easily reached from the campsite or, in the opposite direction, head to famous Holkham – a haunt of the royals with a ginormous stretch of sands and an equally beautiful backing of pine trees. Just inland, Holkham Hall (01328 710806) is well worth exploring, particularly if you bring a bike to pedal around the estate grounds. Nearer still is Sandringham (01485 545400).

Food & Drink

Try the tearoom and bakery at Bircham Windmill or walk down there in the morning for a cracking full English (available from 9am). There are also plenty of good pubs in the vicinity. The nearest is in Great Bircham itself – The Kings Head (01485 578265) – but driving (or cycling) to the cost pays dividends. The White Horse (01485 210262) in Brancaster is fantastic – sea views from the conservatory dining area – and it's slightly more relaxed neighbour, The Jolly Sailors (01485 210314), just down the road has a great pub atmosphere, beer garden and proper pizza-oven cooked pizzas. Try Thornham Deli (01485 512194) for lighter bites or enjoy fresh seafood from the crab hat in Brancaster Staithe harbour.

Open for 56 days only.

The Owner Says

Beautiful 8-acre meadow  in West Norfolk. Ideal location for beaches, bird watching and attractions. Spacious with big skies at night.

This is a quiet, family friendly site.  Strictly NO MUSIC, we do not allow music played from cars or devices - bring the guitar instead!  Please respect others around you and our neighbours during your stay, keep noise to a minimum especially after dark.

The Meadow is a back to basics campsite, we called it Meadow Camping as that is what it is, no frills, no glamour, just a lovely meadow to camp and chill on. Bring your own mod cons if needed as all that is on site is a Tap, Toilets and if you have your own sanitation units we have an Elsan Tank to empty your own Toilets into.  Tents, Dogs and small camper vans are acceptable, motor homes and caravans unfortunately are not allowed.

We have got showers. Two hand built gas heated hot showers for you to have a proper wash in.  Both have perspex roofs and no windows so light and airy with no peeking possible!

Fire Pits and Barbecues are allowed as long as they are off the ground, no scorching or putting fire to the grass please and there is a water tap onsite.  We prefer charcoal to wood as there is less smoke drift for other campers and neighbours, we can supply a good quality BBQ friendly charcoal for £12 a bag.

We also run the tourist attraction at Bircham Windmill where you can get a full English breakfast every day from 9am, fresh bread or a cream tea. Visitors can climb to the top and make their own bread and in the village you will find a pub, shop and play ground. Nearby are various beaches, from Hunstanton dunes to pinewoods and rolling waves at Wells. Lovely rural pubs, local shopping, Sandringham House and much more.

Beautiful lanes to walk along - however, please do not walk on adjacent farmland, it is NOT OK to walk on fields, you must stick to the footpaths and please pick up after your dog, we prefer a 'flick stick' to plastic.  Take a stick with you and flick any mess into the hedgerows.  Do not put poop in plastic bags and leave it behind.

All dogs must be kept on leads when walking along the lanes - there is wildlife and  many nesting birds in the hedgerows that are easily disturbed.

Great low key campsite

Lovely spacious pitches and great showers. Chemical toilets available - cleaned regularly and ok for a couple of nights! Very quiet and close to wonderful dog friendly beaches which is the main reason we chose the site.

Very nice campsite

Very good campsite. Well spaced out plots. Only downside was there was no pub within walking distance but there is a local hotel with a bar which was nice enough

Basic - thistles and nettles on the pitch

Basic camp site as advertised and generally met our expectations. Pitches are well spaced. A little noisy after dark from some people who don’t realise tents aren’t soundproofed but it’s always a gamble on any camp site. Chemical toilets (6 available) were basic but made us gag one night with the smell. Remember to bring your own toilet paper. One of the two ‘hot’ showers (the one on the left) seemed to only produce cold water which was a bit of a shock! The biggest issue was the widespread thistles and nettles within and around the pitch which was a problem. Our daughter ended up with a thorn embedded in her foot. Location was ok - we had a pitch away from the 40mph road - and the coastal towns (Old Hunstanton, Brancaster and Wells) were each within 30 minutes drive. The Tesco in Hunstanton is the nearest larger supermarket.

Basic but good location and lovely field

Loved having individually mown pitches on a flat field in a lovely location. Basic portaloos but lovely warm showers!

Basic but peaceful

We only had a brief stay and the only facility we used was the water tap! The site is very basic but has a quiet, family-friendly atmosphere. There was a little road noise but we didn’t find it a problem from the location of our pitch. It was nice to be able to choose a pitch from the numbered spaces available. The site would suit quiet people with all their own equipment (including more rain protection than we had!) The villages around look lovely and it would be great to explore the windmill and area more another time.

Another great couple of days at Meadow Camping

I’ve stayed here before and this break was no different except there are now showers available. Basic but well maintained site exactly as described and we had another peaceful and relaxing break. The site is well located to visit many places and a short drive to several beaches. I love coming here and because of its basic setup and lack of other things to do on site there is not a lot of coming and going around you and even though there are families with children and dogs it remains in the most part fairly quiet. There is some traffic noise noticeable in the morning, I assume locals travelling off to work, but I have to say I think you’re more likely to be woken by birdsong than traffic. I will be coming again and recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of peace and quiet and doesn’t mind using portaloos or brings their own facilities with them. Well done Meadow Camping 5 stars *****

Don’t really want to leave a review

Bit of a dilemma here. Had a lovely time at this campsite but that was because it was small and populated by like-minded folk who wanted a quiet outdoor space to enjoy with their families. I certainly don’t want to leave the kind of review that would encourage droves of campers to descend upon this little heavenly spot because that would spoil it and we plan to return! So just the facts from me: Toilets very basic: take your own. You can empty on site. Showers hot; could do with the floor being cleaned more often as quite muddy. Take your fire pit and games. No washing up facilities so more suited to well-equipped campers. Enjoy the countryside and get a good night sleep.

Basic, clean, spacious

Very good size pitches, nicely spaced and mown. Portaloos kept clean and stocked with toilet roll. Lovely views and walk to the windmill which is well worth a visit! Great food there and lots for kids to do and see. The site does have quite a noisy road along one side but overnight there was hardly any traffic. It is a very quiet site, people will complain if you sit up late and talk in your family group. And unfortunately some people do let their dogs run around so they are unable to see where they have been to toilet in the long grass. Slightly annoying if you have kept your dog permanently on the lead. Overall excellent site, can’t fault the maintenance, cleanliness and facilities!

Back to basics

We have just come home from a sunny, chilled few days at the campsite. It was so very 'basic' but that's what we loved, I got to know my teenage children again, chatting and laughing with them with no tech distractions!! The beach was a 20 minute drive and was amazing. The only thing I would say was that we went while they were harvesting the field behind us and there was a lot of noise and several 'hay' showers!! a little frustrating but didn't really dampen our stay! Would 100% come back :)

Simple camping done well!

Meadow Camping is a basic campsite as described - water tap, portaloos, and two hot showers in wooden huts. But it is basics done well - large pitches and plenty of space between them for children to play (keep an eye on roaming younger ones and the two gates onto the quiet lane by the campsite); clean loos and the two hot, clean showers made it a lovely campsite to spend a few nights in a quiet field in Norfolk. Big skies, sandy beaches and plenty to see and do locally. We’ll be back!

Relaxed, spacious and clean

Really enjoyed our stay at Meadows camping, quiet with a lovely chilled atmosphere. Hot showers and clean toilets (portaloos). Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Great site

We’ve just come back from our second stay at Meadow Camping and will definitely be back! The pitches are really generous in size and well spaced out. There were a few families on site and it was lovely to see the children playing games on the meadow together. Although described as basic, the facilities include portaloos and a couple of decent hot showers, all of which are kept clean with toilet roll provided. Rubbish was collected regularly. We took our own camping toilet, which we were able to empty on site too. We found it convenient for visiting nearby sights and the beaches. Don’t miss Eric’s Pizza at Thornham! We really love the views from the site of the undulating Norfolk countryside and nearby windmill.

Spacious and no fuss

The site is large clean, no fuss. The showers were lovely, hot and spacious. Lots of thistles so mind your feet. Well placed for the windmill which was lovely. Im not sure why bringing a guitar is better than playing music from a radio, I'd personally prefer to listen to the sounds of the countryside. No washing up facilities which didn't bother us but may do some. The chemical toilets were plenty but needed cleaning and topping up with loo roll more often and water connecting to the sinks. Some where to put rubbish bags would be useful and an are for children to play maybe. Overall a very nice place to stay if you just want to be left alone to relax.

Lovely simple quiet campsite

Great place to camp, very simple, loads of space, gorgeous sunsets. Showers are hot, toilets are fine. Kids all got together and played. Great location for exploring beaches and seeing beautiful Norfolk countryside. We’ll definitely be going back.

First time family camp

For our first time camping as a family we couldn’t of been happier with how it turned out. Hassle free and very enjoyable. Couldn’t believe the size of the pitch it was plenty. Well maintained quite friendly camp site. Facilities were very good showers were lovely and toilet is a toilet right? Everything we needed was within a 15/20 mins drive. We will deffo be returning and staying a few more nights next time. Keep up the good work meadow camping. Thanks for haveing us from the reeves family.

Peaceful Site

The pitches are great because they r so well spaced and you don’t have anyone on top of you. Loads of room for footie and cricket for the kids and beautiful walks and sun set. 15 mins drive from Brancaster made getting to our favourite spots on the coast nice and easy but with a restful campsite away from the crowds to come back too. Would come back.

Lovely stay

We (wife and two young daughters) love the north Norfolk coastline and this site gave us a great chance to easily travel across our favourite spots. Great to have so much space on the pitch in a nice quiet setting. Showers were great, portaloos were portaloos… Lovely breakfast at Bircham Stores & Cafe. Would definitely use again!

Super 2 days camp

We had a short stay but it was very much worth it! Level pitches and excellent hot showers in the little sheds. It's a welcome quiet space! Good signage to the Windmill for delicious cream tea. Well worth it!!

Lovely back to basics site in a handy location for a short drive to the coast but far enough from the coast to avoid the seasonal crowds. Large, well spaced out pitches. Great showers, not so great portaloos but they’re better than the other option if proper wild camping! I was sad to leave and will definitely return.

Back to basics camping done right!

Was looking to book a long weekend away camping that was cheap, easy and was happy to settle with basic facilities. Meadow camping fit the bill. Nice big pitches with loads of distance between you and your neighbour, beautiful setting to watch the sunset and peaceful nights sleep as it was a quiet site. The portaloos were not the nicest but haven't come across a basic portaloo that is! But the showers were amazing! Better temp and water pressure than I have at home! If I was looking for a quick, cheap, last minute few nights away I would stay again!

Tranquil place, amazing sunset, great showers and lovely owner

We had a booking at the Jolly Sailor pub for dinner but when we drove into the Meadow campsite, the scenery was too good to leave- amazing sunset, windmill on thw horizon, peace and just wonderfully chilling. We cancelled the pub and had an amazing evening on the campsite, followed by a lovely chat with Steve, the owner, the next morning. The showers are hot and awesome. We will definitely be back!

A magical wild weekend

Lovely to stay at a site with huge pitches and a genuinely “Wild” feel. We spent much of our time round a campfire watching buzzards overhead, goldfinches in the hedgerow and butterflies in and amongst the meadow areas. Plus it’s close to the beaches and there are lots of lovely wild walks nearby. Delightful!

Second visit

We’ve now camped at Meadow Camping twice (July and August - 7 nights in total) and already plan to go in 2021. Would totally recommend if you’re looking for a quiet site with easy access to beaches, walks etc. The owners come around each day to check toilets and replace loo rolls and take the rubbish from departing pitches. The showers are really nice with hot water. There is a play area for kids so balls aren’t bouncing off tents and cars!! Each pitch is a good size and fit 2-3 tents on comfortably if there are a couple of families wanting to camp together!

Basic but beautiful 😍

Basic but beautiful, and a perfect location for the coastline nearby. Will definitely be returning next year.

Back to basics camping, a field is all you need!

Lovely spacious campsite, we have a huge bell tent and even when pitched we had lots of room around the tent. Very quiet, lots of room for kids to play and play they did. Isolated and basic but that’s all you need to have a chilled week, we stayed 4 nights, loved every minute. Would defo recommend.

Basic but beautiful

This is not a campsite for those looking for luxury, but it is a gem. Pitches are enormous, flat and easy to pitch on. Could do with proper toilets or better portaloos. At the moment they are the ones you see on building sites. This was our second visit and the loos were better this time, because the weather wasn't so hot. Will definitely be back next year if they are open.

Great family Camping

This site was fantastic for our week holiday. The pitches were a good size and there was nice space in between the pitches that made it feel spacious and so we could play around the tent. The ground was lovely and even, and the site had good access to all our favourite beaches. The showers were fantastic and even the porta-loos were cleaned regularly! Cream tea and cakes at Bircham Windmill were excellent. Would stay again.

Perfect "back to basics" campsite - will return!

This is exactly what a back to basics campsite should be. The field is huge with massive pitches easily big enough for two family-size tents each, or in some cases even three. I love the fact that the grass between the pitches has been left to grow, so people wouldn't be able to encroach on your space even if they tried. I really hope they continue to mark pitches out this way even after Covid is no longer an issue. I've been caught out elsewhere in the past where I've pitched up nice and far away from everyone else and then someone's come and pitched three feet away from my tent - no risk of that here. The pitch is perfectly flat, which is always a bonus. The only things there are a set of portaloos and two showers which were clean, spacious, and really nice and hot. Oh, and hand sanitiser posts! The owners were visible on site every so often, cleaning the portaloos and removing rubbish, and were very quick to respond when contacted to deal with some idiots who seemed to be under the impression they'd arrived at Glastonbury, but otherwise they left you to get on with it and weren't in any way intrusive. Perfect. We look forward to coming back!

great rustic campsite

the campsite was in a great location. Its basic but the spacious plot allows you to be very private. The showers are great. Would come back again.

Quiet, basic site.

Great basic site, that is easy to access Norfolk beaches by car. Pitch size was great as gave ample space for kids to play and well spaced out from other campers.

Quiet and spacious

Meadow camping was exact as descriped, spacious, quiet and back to basics and everyone cleared up after themselves. The perfect weekend away.

Excellent site, beautiful surroundings, spacious and quiet.

We stayed at this site for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our time. It was the first time we had done camping as a family (5 of us - 3 very young children) but we had a great time. Obviously, the facilities are basic but the portaloos were well maintained and the owners were going to great effort to minimise the usual unpleasant odours from those things. The showers were excellent - basic but did the trick (nice and warm)! It was a great site for us to let our little ones roam free and we were never too concerned that they were disturbing others due to the space. Would definitely return. Highly recommended.

Great spacious pitches. No worries about social distancing

Stayed here for 4 nights with our 2 kids. Great size pitches with loads of space between. Totally relaxed site. Great showers. Great location for all activities. Camping as it should be. Thanks

Loved it!

Lovely quiet site, the pitches are well spaced out and a good size. Toilets were ok, portaloo but clean, it was one reason I chose the site really. I know it's difficult for businesses at the moment, but a last minute decision to go camping meant searching for a site that provided toilets as many ask that you bring your own. So I'm really pleased they offered all the basics, toilet, shower and water tap - what a gem of a find. The shower is fantastic! A really lovely place to feel close to nature. Lots of cycling routes nearby, including a fab route to Sandringham along farm tracks and fairly quiet roads, great location for exploring north Norfolk.

Peaceful site with massive pitches. The facilities are basic would recommend taking a portaloo. Don’t be put off by the appearance of the showers they are the best campsite showers, hot powerful and lots of room. Will definitely return.

Lovely site with massive pitches, basic facilities. Brilliant hot powerful showers. Nice location, will return.

Spacious, big skies and a great camping experience

We stayed here as a family of 4 For 5 nights after our planned trip to France was not possible. The pitches are huge and marked out by cut grass which was great to camp on and walk around. We really enjoyed the big skies, peacefulness and relaxed atmosphere of this site. We cycled a lot around the area on lovely quiet roads and farm tracks. We had a great time at Bircham Windmill (which is owned by the same family as the site) and Sneetishsm Farm (both easy cycles). We also enjoyed the beaches at Holkham and Old Hunstanton cliffs which are both a short drive away. We brought our own toilet which reduced trips to the site toilets. These were cleaned regularly and fine as long as fellow campers flushed after themselves. The showers were great and much appreciated after days at the beach. They were nice and warm and had plenty of space to get dressed. We left one night earlier than planned due to very strong winds. The site doesn’t have much in the way of shelter or shade, it is really just a big field but that in essence is it’s beauty!

No frills camping

This place is great for a short stay and well positioned to visit the beaches of North Norfolk. There are plenty of good pubs within a 10 minute drive. The pitches are exceptionally large and mostly flat and the site is nice and dark at night. When we stayed it was mostly quiet, with the exception of the road which is fairly busy and close by. We didn’t use the showers so can’t comment but they looked pretty nice and new - there was a bit of a queue on the morning we left though. The portaloos are... portaloos. Fine for a night or two but felt like I was at a festival rather than a campsite - didn’t really bother us but also didn’t fancy staying any longer as they were pretty full. They did get emptied as we were leaving though! As mentioned in the description, there is no sink to brush your teeth or wash up in so you need to be mindful of that! All in all a great, back to basics place to stay.

Really nice location

It's a field with large plots, well spaced out, a few portaloos, and 2 very welcome showers. It's rural setting suits the basic facilities, it's a great location, good for walking and biking, and a short drive to the local beaches. If you are a light sleeper, pick a pitch away from the road, it's not busy, but there is some early morning noise.

Lovely quiet campsite

Basic camping but great big pitches and only 25 tents in the field while we were there. Quiet, peaceful site. 4 portaloos and 2 showers in huts but the loos were kept clean and the showers were hot. The owner responded quickly when contacted. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Lovely Quiet Campsite

Pitches were very spacious, really quiet and private. Very back to basics with just a few porterloos, 2 showers and drinking water. For me personally the porterloos did get quite grubby toward the end of our stay, but I suppose this is the same with many campsites. Lovely walks surrounding the campsite (path runs along the back of the site). We also went to the windmill down the road for coffee and cake which was great. We did find it strange that you just “pitched up” without anyone manning the site during check in times - it felt like anyone could have just come in and pitched up as no one there to monitor this. There was a sign saying to call a number if there was an unexpected arrival but because the site wasn’t fully booked we never would have known who should have been there and who shouldn’t have! We had a lovely couple of days with no issues, for me personally just wanted the loos cleaned more often.

Pretty campsite

Quiet, rural campsite with spacious, spread-out pitches. There were only about 25 tents in a large field when we visited so lots of room. This is real camping - 'back-to-basic' camping with 4 portaloos and 2 showers in huts, but the loos were kept clean and the showers were lovely and hot. The owner was helpful and responded quickly to our one query. The location is great too. We really enjoyed our stay here and would come again!

A cool place to camp

We paid for basic camping and got a bit more than expected. Plenty of room on the pitch and a great place to use as a base. Showers were fine only a short wait generally to use them. Only downside was the portable toilets. In 4 days they appeared to be only emptied once and didn't seem to be cleaned on a regular basis. Had to resort to throwing a bucket of water down to unblock them and clean them. They do say bring your own toilet and I would suggest you do. That aside I would thoroughly recommend it.

Lovely site

We’ve just got back from a few nights here. It was fantastic. Lovely showers and the facilities are great. Really calm and quiet site with space for all so not cramped. The area is great with easy access to lots of local beaches and towns. We really liked the windmill too. Will definitely be back!

Nice basic quiet campsite.

Lovely spacious pitches, clearly set out, not too busy so nice for the children to ride bikes around. Basic portaloo and tap were fine. Nice location with pretty walks and short drive to different beaches. Would happily stay again.

We will be back!

As it says on the tin. Back to basics camping. A delightful quiet rural location but a fantastic base for the beautiful Coast, sandringham Estate. The seals at blakeney point and country walks. The meadow was spotlessly clean and pitches were enormous with little mown driveways to them. All spaciously distanced. The 2 showers a pleasing morning experience. Plenty hot water and enough power to wash long hair! Hose for drinking water. A waste area and 4 portaloos. (However we took our own wc). No noise after 10pm was bliss. The owner Steve and son drive round morning and late afternoon and were excellent hosts. Their main site with windmill only a 1 mile field walk...worth the visit to see mill and have lunch. Food was delicious. We're just back from a lovely 4 day break and wished we had booked longer (had we known it was going to be this perfect).

Open fire at night which was great to sit under the stars Bircham village a short stroll away with a fantastic stores/deli ,the owner was most accomodating & friendly We took our dog & the site has access to fantastic walks & countryside Overall a great experience especially as the beaches were no more than a 20 minute drive away.

Just what we needed!

Booked a pitch last minute for a one night stay and wasn’t disappointed! Pitch was plenty big enough and the tap and toilets were fine! Only there one night so didn’t make use of the shower facilities. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect back to nature campsite with good size pitches.

showers great, Portaloo's - very unpleasant, they either need to have more of them or cleaned out more often on hot days. would defo visit again and bring own toilet

Beautiful campsite with spacious pitches and stunning views

If you want a campsite where you get to enjoy camping and the countryside I would recommend meadow camping. The pitches have ample room for multiple tents and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Beautiful field and the fact that there were so few pitches was very appealing. Would definitely camp here again.

Lovely site

Our first visit to Meadow Camping, but it won’t be our last. The pitches are generous and well spaced out, with plenty off room for our large tent, car, trailer and masses of room for the children to run about in. You can pick any pitch that’s free, so we were able to choose just the right spot for us. The loos are scrupulously clean, well stocked with loo roll, and obviously cared for, with bunting and lavender hung on the walls. The showers are great too, and hand sanitiser is readily available. Overall, the campsite feels well looked after, and is a lovely base to relax at or explore the local area from. Locally, there is a shop/cafe in Gt Bircham which sells particularly tasty bacon - a must for our camping breakfasts. There is a hotel with a nice terrace if you’re looking for a meal or drink out, which does excellent chips - we nipped out to escape the 35C+ heat - a novel experience to be too hot whilst camping! As you go further afield, Norfolk has much to offer on the way of beautiful countryside and beaches. Highly recommend this lovely spot for a peaceful getaway.

Friendly, clean, tidy and quiet.

Very nice site. The new showers are fantastic. Campsite is great for getting back to nature. No concrete toilet/shower blocks just grass, hedges, big skies and a windmill on the horizon. Their sister camp site just up the road has the best breakfasts ever and very reasonably priced with lovely staff and owners. You can visit their windmill and make bread with the kids. Will definitely be going again!

Quiet country camping break

Lovely field ideally placed for local beaches and bird reserves. Pitches well spaced out and great hot showers. The only downside was the Portaloos.

Great site, quiet and lots of room

Camping like it used to be, toilets, two showers and a cold tap, all you need. The mown pitches were well spaced and sizeable. The site was quiet, relaxed and friendly. The rustic showers were hot and no queues. We walked from the site and one evening saw hares playing in a nearby field. It is well placed to visit the North and West coasts. The woods and park at Sandringham were great and cool on a sizzling hot day. The toilets were clean at the beginning of our stay but by Friday had begun to be rather unpleasant. We would definitely stay again as there was so much to like but will think about bringing our own toilet.

Great site

The site was exactly as described, the mown pitches were well spaced out and sizeable. The rustic showers were hot and no queues. We walked from the site and on one evening saw hares in a nearby field. It was quiet and fellow campers were friendly. It is well placed to visit the North and West coasts and the woods and park at Sandringham were a good place to visit on a sizzling hot day. By the end of the week the toilets (which had been very clean) were becoming rather unpleasant to use. That, however, is my only gripe. I would definitely go again but will think about taking a toilet.

Great Rustic Campsite in the Norfolk Countryside

Great location in the Norfolk countryside but still close enough to drive to Heacham, Hunstanton for beaches and things to do. All the pitches are well spaced out and you have loads of room so you never feel crowded in like at some of the big campsites. Some nice walks and views in the local area around the fields surrounding the campsite. Rustic showers that work well, there are portaloo’s but I’d probably bring your own toilet if you can so you can guarantee yourself a nice clean toilet. Think it’s important for people to know that so they know what to expect. One small suggestion for the owners would be to weed out the thistles on each pitch so that kids can play without having to worry about getting thorns in their feet, would be a smallish effort to make stays even more pleasureable, still all in all a good experience and I would return 😊

Old school camping perfection.

We (2 adults + 4 children) have just camped for 3 nights at Meadow Camping and enjoyed it thoroughly. We loved the beautiful setting and simplicity of the campsite. The layout and size of the pitches was great. Loos and showers were clean. One large pitch in the middle was assigned as a play area which is a very thoughtful touch. The proximity to great beaches is fantastic. We hope to return soon again. Thank you Stevie and team. Hilary, Ted & family

Clean and spacious - excellent location!

Large pitches, quiet site. Excellent facilities which where always clean!

Serene simplicity

What a lovely, back to basics campsite 🏕 it was! It is great to prove to yourself that a clean water supply, a toilet and a shower is all you need to have a good time! The pitches were well marked and spaced well for safe distance and privacy. We managed to find the way to the windmill along the paths behind the camp and spotted a deer 🦌 in the process! Lovely soothing nature and fields around. We had a great time at Meadow Camping and definitely recommend it!

Relaxing, beautiful escape!

We really enjoyed our stay at Meadow Camping, back to basics escape from it all! The meadow is well maintained with really large pitches, portaloos clean and the hot showers were lovely. Short drive to beautiful Brancaster beach and Bircham windmill is a must visit for breakfast/cream tea. The kids baked bread and we climbed to the top, they loved it. Our stay was really relaxing, my kind of camping, chilled, quiet and spacious, we will definitely be back!

Simply lovely

This was what I needed. Peace and space and simplicity for a few days. Location was excellent with easy access to the beautiful northern coast line. See you again soon

Decent facilities, clean area

Clean facilities, newly put up showers(nice n hot water), toilets, available drinking water, really tidy field. Hand sanitizer next to toilets. Road is right next to field so can hear cars zooming by but not a biggie for us as went out to seaside and drove around area while we camped there. Not overly busy road anyways but still. We weren't as lucky as rest and be able put tents further away from road, first come first serve basis. Think i read somewhere which said pick the pitch to your tent size and leave bigger ones for others who has larger tents but we saw tiny tents being setup in larger pitches and vice versa again not a biggie but would be nice if people pick the size they require, the pitches didn't differ much in size but still, we had large van and Vango Keswick tent and had still plenty space on ours. We ended up on pitch right next to road but close to water and facilities. Had morning traffic from toothbrushers and shower people walking by but didn't bother us at all. Dog friendly. There's footpath just as you exit the field on your right. Co-op 10min away. Narrow roads so bare that in mind. We were under pitch No;30 so I assume that's how many pithes is there?! Fires allowed but don't leave marks, we had £12 foldable bbq from Aldi and worked like treat. Didn't hear anyone blasting music nor did we, was really quiet. Not had much network, barely could make a call but hey that's might be just my Iphone although wife did find difficulties with social media too. We saw guy turning up in 4x4 in morning when we were leaving collected rubbish bags which were tidy left near toilet blocks. He did advise to better take rubbish with you tho. Better take rubbish with you home as there's no bins as I didn't ask if he collect them all the time or it just happened he came around in that morning to check site or something. All in all ok space to camp. Stayed there July 24,25,26/2020

Clean, quiet campsite near the beach!

We really liked the tidy, spacious layout and appreciated the pitch being clean and flat! Essentially the campsite is a large field with pitches laid out at good intervals. The grass is left to grow a little between pitches. Great location, only 15 mins to beautiful Brancaster beach. Spa is en route to the beach and well stocked. Showers clean and hot. Portaloos but clean. Would be nice if a couple of sinks could be provided for washing up.

Brilliant back to basics camping!

Really lovely, peaceful meadow with huge mown pitches which were good for social distancing with clean porta-loos, hand sanitiser, taps, showers. A back to basics campsite which allows campfires (off the ground) which was just what we wanted! We will be back!

Fabulous dog-friendly site

What a gem. Big pitches, warm and friendly staff. The walks from the campsite were amazing - including a walk to the windmill for cream tea. Fabulous beaches nearby Can’t wait to come back

Back to nature complete break in a very relaxed atmosphere

Simple and hassle free- bags of space with mown pitches, space for your own set up of small/large tents and shelters. Easy to book and easy access, great communication, basic facilities and the opportunity to sit round a fire at night, great stars! Short drive to loads of lovely beaches, walks, villages and nature reserve - worth bringing your own supplies to cut down on the driving and enjoy staying put and chilling. Very Covid safe - I work for nhs and it was fantastic to get away safely from it all , highly recommended if you’re happy with the basics.

We had a great time - huge pitches meant we could accommodate our whole party in one. Very friendly staff, fantastic hot breakfast in the morning. Gorgeous surroundings. Better than expected from its humble description and perfect for getting to the beach the next day. Thanks so much, highly recommend and hope to come again.

Does what it says on the tin! Basic but lovely camping, with the added bonus of four toilet and two new showers.

Would recommend it to families, people with dogs, those wanting peace and quiet and all within a short drive to some lovely beaches, churches, stately homes etc.

Lots of space

We had a fantastic time at this campsite. Generous space between pitches made it much more easy for our nervous dog. Relaxed atmosphere & beautiful scenery. It hit the spot for us.

Big sky big meadow big find!

Enjoyed three awesome nights at Meadow Camping and we were no 2 in the brand new hot shower unit erected whilst we stayed. Location is superb with quick access to Old Hunstanton, Holkam and Brancaster beaches. Pitches are enormous allowing for top social distancing, loos clean and site lovingly maintained by Stevie and team. We will certainly be back...

Simply brilliant.

Fantastic field and a brilliant price. Can't beat the fact that it's just a field with some portaloos and a tap! Very spacious pitches with plenty of room away from other campers. Definitely booking again for the family for a longer stay.

Simply brilliant.

Massive field, plenty of space, decent distance between other campers. It's so nice just being in a field with nothing but some portaloos and a tap for drinking water. With the windmill so close by that serves breakfast and serves as an activity too, it's just perfect. Going to visit again with the family soon. Perfect.

Great stay!

Massive field. Lots of space. Peaceful. Short car journey to the wide expanse of Brancaster Beach. Highly recommended.
