About The Fire Pit Camp

Suitable For

Glampers, campers, families, large group bookings and whole site hire, weddings and festivals!

Dereham is really close to us and has all the shops you may need. The Gressenhall Museum & Adventure Play Farm is local, as is a steam train station (not for travelling to camp...the nearest stations for general travel are in Kings Lyyn & Norwich).  Swaffham is 8 miles away and has a Saturday market, from there it's easy to reach the ruins of Castle Acre priory and Oxburgh Hall if you are fans of English Heritage or National Trust sites or great pubs The Dabbling Duck, George & Dragon and Cocoes Deli. Norwich is only 18 miles away, a great city with a fab Castle, 2 cathedrals, great parks and a really good offering of markets, festivals, culture, vintage events and music as well as restaurants such as Benedicts, Woolf & Social and Gonzo's - the coffee shops are off the scale and Norwich is the Vegan capital of the UK!

We are really central to all things Norfolk and make a great base to go exploring...days out that we recommend that are only about 30-50 mins away are The Boards, several RSPB sites, Bewilderwood, Roarr the Dinosaur Adventure Park, Pensthorpe,  The Sainsbury's Centre Gallery and of course all the stunning North Norfolk Coast line and blue flag beaches, such as Wells, Holkham, Brancaster and Eric's Fish & Chips in Thornham with farm shops and loads of pubs near by.

Food & Drink

The on-site warehouse bar sells coffees and teas as well as artisan cocktails.

Greenbanks Hotel and Restaurant is super close to us (01362 687742). Local pubs are The Dabbling Duck (where you will often see the Royal family chilling out in!), Strattons and Cocoes Deli, The George & Dragon and in Norwich we love Benedicts, Woolf & Social, Blue Joanna's and Gonzo's. It's also known as the vegan food capital of the UK, try The Tipsy Vegan, Erpingham House and The Little Shop of Vegans!

Family Friendly

Nothing beats camping in a gang and this campsite caters specifically to big group bookings. As the name suggests, campfires are a must, but, by day, it's the long grass meadows, giant-tyre slide and double-decker play bus that keep kids entertained.

I would visit again in a heartbeat

Great venue, our host Jayesh was amazing and thought of everything. The staff were faultless and the pizza’s delicious. I would go again.

A Long Weekend of Joy

I spent a long weekend at the firepit camp for my 40th. Alongisde another 15 adults and 8 kids we did very little except enjoy the sunshine, eat some great camp meals and play charades around the fire. The kids loved the freedom and the big bus and the adults loved the clean toilet block, morning coffees and peace and quiet. We hired belltents from a recommended supplier (details from the campsite) and one group stayed in the Wrens nest which was gorgeous. Highly recommended.

Kiddie friendly

The campsite is run by lovely ladies and it is really nice and kiddie friendly, very safe and lots for little ones to explore.

A few minor negatives are that it gets large groups (so not great if you're a one tent camper not part of a group), there is only one shower (but it is only a small site) and a bit of road noise.

Otherwise a lovely magical place with a nice feel.

We love The Fire Pit!

We went back to The fire pit for a second time this summer as we all had such fond memories of it from last year and our experience was even better than last time. The owners are a lovely family that all live on site during the summer (and beyond) and they have put so much love and attention to detail into the site that it makes the experience so much more special and personal than any other campsite I have been to. There is loads for the children to do (ours are 4 and 8)- play on the swing and climbing frame, roam and explore the meadow, ride their bikes around the bike tracks, play football on the pitch, play on the double decker bus.... And the site is just big enough for them to feel they have their own freedom but small enough for you to know where they are all the time. The facilities are lovely and clean and make you feel you are half way between glamping and camping. This year there was the added bonus of a bar/cafe and as we were putting up our tents on the first evening, the hosts brought us the most delicious home made pimms to helped us get into the holiday spirit. There is loads to do and see nearby as it is very centrally located in norfolk but actually our kids loved just being there and made some lovely new friends to play with. We will definately be back next year again- it's now part of our summer tradition!

Great for kids...

Having stayed in quite a few campsites over the years we were really excited about staying here. Our friends stayed in 'Wrens nest' while we stayed next to them in our bell tent. The campsite facilities are lovely, lots for children to do but if you have toddlers or under fives they need to be supervised at all times on the upstairs of the play bus as the stairs are pretty scary! The beauty of the campsite is that you can see your children at all times and the toilets etc are really child friendly, for example steps to stand on to clean teeth and sensible doors with non scary locks! The whole place is immaculate and clean and very well looked after. The main problem we had was the wasps, so many that eating on site became a real problem as there weren't any wasp bags or catchers and with small children it became a real nuisance. The other problem was only one shower, this meant when the campsite filled up it took ages to get in and held us up in the mornings. I know they have plans to build more. The pitches are quite small in comparison to other places we have stayed in and found that one small fridge was a bit tricky with all the other campers. I would bring a big cool box next time and use the freezer to swap ice packs over. There is no honesty shop or place to walk to if you need anything- everywhere is a short drive. We also found that after a day at the beach we had no where to hang towels/ dry wet clothes so take a washing line. At £30 a night in high season it is a bit pricey for the lack of showers and facilities but it makes up for that with the children's play opportunities. We didn't see any craft making etc I am guessing that happens on different days.

Getting There

The campsite entrance is on the main road through Wendling opposite a bus stop. Look out for the double-decker bus in the fields beyond.
