Scenic, simple camping with North Norfolk's best sights on your doorstep

Archer's Field is exactly what you need from a reasonably priced rural retreat. Owners Peter and Kate are experienced in this field — and are experienced with fields, given their ownership of a farm — with the husband-and-wife couple previously running Airbnb cottages for holiday-goers. Now, they've opened their farm gates to a more outdoorsy venture, offering space for 20 pitches in a meadow and Aldar carr opposite their smallholding. Plant your tent down anywhere, breathe in the fresh country air, and go explore some of the most picturesque sights Norfolk has to offer.

In a meadow lined with mature oak, ash, and poplar trees, Archer's Field lets you set up camp next to a gorgeous pond, with myriad wildlife joining you during your stay. Expect to see nesting buzzards, grazing deer and muntjac, along with hooting owls and fishing egrets. Picnic benches line the water, allowing you to take a seat and watch the world go by. While a simple pitch, there are still higher quality amenities than your typical portaloo and cold shower; two modules provide flushing toilets, hot-water showers, and a basin for you to spruce yourself up, while fresh produce can also be obtained from the farm gate. Two bell tents are also available to hire for those who want to leave their own accommodation at home, and parties can opt to book out the entire site exclusively for an unforgettable stay with all their family and friends.

Peter and Kate are attentive hosts who are extremely knowledgeable of their local area; feel free to ask them for their tips on the best walks, cycle routes, and activities around the Erpingham site, of which there are many given its close proximity to Norwich — less than a 40-minute drive away — and the nearby coast boasting scenic sea views from the likes of Overstrand and Cromer beach. Entrench yourself even deeper into your natural surroundings with a visit to the Norfolk Broads, ideal for rambling or cycling along its woodland and waterside trails. Be it the Broads, the coasts, the countryside, or the seaside, Archer's Field places you within reach of all that North Norfolk has to offer.

As well as Archer's Field's spacious camping, there are two bell tents set up with electric hook-ups for phone charging, each comfortably sleeping a family of four with campers supplying their own bedding. There are two bathroom modules shared between the site, each with its own flushing toilet and hot-water shower, while one module also has its own basin with a heater. There's also a washing-up area shared between campers  with a draining board, sink, cold water tap, and electric socket. With these being a working farm, guests can purchase free-range eggs, apple juice, and preserves from the farm gate, while barbecues are also allowed (though must remain off the ground) and fire pits can be hired from the site. Picnic tables are also located across the pond, so you and yours can take a seat by the water.

Good, basic campsite. Clean and tidy, nice hot shower.

Only booked for one night, booked very last minute after seeing the good weather forecast!! Campsite was easy to find, just off the main road and well signposted. Friendly hosts. The site is basic but as described, good hot shower clean toilet. We were keeping it very simple so ate out to avoid having to cook, If wanting to eat locally I would strongly advise booking beforehand, pubs nearby do not offer food every day, we picked the wrong day for the local pubs so decided to drive to Cromer (about 8 miles) for fish and chips but mile or so on the main road from campsite was a pub - 'The New Inn', opposite a fish & Chip shop so didn't have to go very far. Food at New Inn was excellent and very good value but it was busy, especially for a Tuesday evening, we were lucky enough to get a table due to a 'no show' but definitely safer to book beforehand. Had planned to have breakfast at the Alby Craft Centre (discount for campsite residents) but as this didn't open until 10:00am we went to Sheringham and again struck lucky at 'Roy Boy's' in the town there for a good breakfast, also excellent value and open from 7:30am. Would use the campsite again if in the area.

Large field in north east Norfolk close to the coast and other Amenities

We have just returned from 4 nights in Archers Field this is a new campsite (only opened 3 weeks ago) 8 miles south of Cromer next to Weavers Way close to Alysham and the nearest pub is walking distances. Positives Large quiet campsite. Close to lots of attractions. Friendly helpful owner. Electrical hook ups available. Fire pits and benches available at an extra cost. Great shower plenty of hot water. Vegetables fruit eggs available at the farm across the road. We found it an ideal base for cycling around the area numerous quite lanes and roads. The campsite is also next to Weavers Way (The Weavers Way is a long distance footpath. 56 miles long and runs from Cromer to Great Yarmouth.) Cons: Only one shower for 20 pitches (this was not a problem when we were there as the campsite was quiet) Two toilets and one of them is in the shower cabin. No hot water or covered area to wash dishes. No facility to recycle waste. The owner is aware of these cons and is looking to make improvements.

Just fabulous

Easy to find but private and quiet once you’re on the site. Enveloped by nature, really peaceful. Well managed as welcomed by the owners who then left us to get on with our stay. Other guests friendly but we all have enough space between pitches to not be on top of each other. Loos and shower nice and clean. Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone wanting a quiet no fuss campsite!

A great little campsite!

We had a wonderful bank holiday weekend here. The owners are really friendly and helpful. Plenty of space in the field so tents aren’t too close together. Facilities are fab - great shower and all is cleaned thoroughly daily. Lots to do nearby. Thank you for a lovely stay. We’ll be back!

Little gem

The perfect 2 night getaway we were looking for. Great location to be both tucked away but not a far driveway from the local towns and seaside at Cromer. Electric hook up was available, there were 2 toilets and 1 hot shower on site that were both kept super clean, and the hosts gave a warm welcome around the campsite, taking the time to come over and say hi and give a few walking recommendations 😊 It was basic but perfect & we would definitely return.

Great stay in nature

Good clean facilities and friendly helpful owners. A short walk to the local village with playground, recycling and a decent pub. Loved the nightly fire pit and fresh eggs for breakfast. Best of all our young kids loved chasing frogs and dragon flies near to the pond.

3 Star Review

Lovely little campsite, located in a beautiful part of the Norfolk countryside. Great for couples looking to getaway. Clean facilities, a nice warm shower, and a peaceful campsite. Only one shower for the whole campsite, which may put people off, especially those with young children (we have a two-year-old) and it was a bit of a nightmare. There are only two toilets, one of which is inside the shower unit, so if one camper is using the shower the second toilet is also out of use until they're finished with only one toilet to be shared with the other campers. Moot point, other campers kept leaving the toilet/shower door open with the light on / heating on. Shame as this kept illuminating our tent/the field in the middle of the night and was a waste of energy too. We would stay again! 3 stars due to there only being 1 shower, and 2 x toilets to be shared between 18+ pitches - ideally, there need to be 2/3 showers and 2/3 toilets separate to the shower. There is one sink available to wash cooking utensils etc, this isn't undercover, so if it's raining you're getting wet!

Great setting. Wonderful personable owners. Lovely experience.

Lovely site with personable friendly owners. Great location

Lovely, peaceful and spacious

Great campsite - plenty of space and great clean portaloo and sink to wash up if needed. We briefly met the owners who were very friendly and welcoming and had some great recommendations. We visited Overstrand beach which was a 10/15 minute drive and much quieter than Mundsley/Cromer. Would definitely return to Archer's Field.

Lovely quiet site

This is a lovely quiet site in a rural location on the edge of a small village. Facilities include flushing 2 toilets and 1 hot shower which were cleaned at least twice daily. There were 12 tents/camper vans when we were there so an additional shower would be ideal in busy times but we managed. A 10 minute walk to the lovely local pub, The Spread Eagle, who have a good selection of real ales, Ghost Ship, Landlord & Wherry, and had the Farriers Grill on Saturday offering excellent burgers, sausages, chips etc. A very friendly and helpful host. Recommended.

Tranquil camping break

Had a fabulous five days of camping at what is a newly set up site, with electric "hook-up" and fire pit added to the the bill which was very reasonable. Great site away from main road. Really friendly owner who was very accomodating. Good access to local beaches approx 15 minute + drive away. Nice pubs nearby for food, although booking is necessary or early arrival in the busy months. Would benefit from freezer for ice packs, otherwise fire wood, farm eggs and jams left at farm out-house for visitors to help selves to and leave money. One of the nights in August stay, was quite noisey with nearby farming machinary running through the night for harvest. Would happily return again.
