Grass Pitch (4 at The Orchard at Fen End Farm)
The Owner Says
We provide your own fire pit for campfires, composting toilet, hot and cold running water, shower and shared kitchenette. Electrical hook-up not available. Pitches can accommodate up to two 2-man tents. Larger tents will need a pitch each.
We encourage campfires! Each accommodation and pitch has its own outdoor fire pit, and there is also a larger communal fire pit. You can buy firewood on the farm, and you are also welcome to bring your own logs (no treated wood please).
The Apple Hut is our communal facilities building, and houses a small kitchen area with sink for washing up, a fridge, utensils, crockery and cutlery, a dining table and chairs and a wood burning stove.
Next to the Apple Hut is the Shower Shack, which has a luxury compost toilet, wash basin and shower with hot and cold running water. There are two further luxury compost toilets.
Electricity is not available in the yurt, tipi, bell tent or wagon, but is in the Apple Hut. All our energy is generated by renewable systems. We have a 6kw wind turbine and a 40mw solar PV array on site, and we are also grid-connected via Good Energy.
The wider farm
You are welcome to explore the rest of the farm, which is 117 acres. We have some fantastic bird life, including barn owls, buzzards and skylarks. There are always fields left fallow, which you can run around in, play football or frisbee. We also have a young woodland which you can explore, pick up a track pack and bug hunting kit in the Apple hut and head out to see what you can find. We have seen deer, badgers, hares and foxes, lots of birds, caterpillars, dragonflies, bats and lots of other critters.
There's so much to see and do in the local area. We are just a few miles from Cambridge, with very good cycle paths linking the village to the city. Ely is also very close with its beautiful cathedral. Cottenham and the surrounding villages have several good pubs and restaurants. National Trust properties Wicken Fen, Anglesey Abbey and Wimpole Farm are all within half an hour’s drive.

A place away from the world
An ideal secluded family friendly campsite to get back to nature with the added bonus of the sites amenities.
An enchanted and magical place
A wonderful camping weekend among the apple blossom - Fen End Farm
We stayed at Fen End Farm for a birthday celebration with family and friends. The site is well laid out and accommodated our campervans and tents. The less adventurous campers stayed in the farm’s tipi. Each pitch has its own fire pit dug out and there was a larger fire pit for us to use as a group. The pitches are well spaced and would ensure some privacy if you were camping alone.
The toilets and showers were clean and well maintained. The owners are environmentally conscious and asked that only biodegradable shampoos and soaps were used; they had some available for sale. The owners were very attentive to checking the composing toilet – we stayed as a large group and the cleanliness could not have been better.
Our parents stayed in the tipi, had a great night’s sleep and were very comfortable. They loved it, despite never wanting to come camping with us before. They were tickled to be glamping and are up for doing so again! Having the wood hut and log burner meant that our hot water bottles were easily filled up before the chilly night. The hut was a great place to sit, eat, play and just hang out. It is a real bonus to have on the site – particularly if you are unsure whether you’ll be warm enough and it allows you the option to eat around a dinner table if the weather doesn’t look great.
The farm itself is beautiful and a great place to walk around. Friends enjoyed the farm's produce. The grass airfield provided entertainment when planes were heading out or returning. It is a short walk to the village and we went to the small supermarket, pubs and restaurants over the weekend.
This review is unacceptably overdue. We stayed at Fen End Farm in May 2015 and cannot recommend it highly enough! Thank you for having us.
Tranquil Site - loved it
I booked a couple of nights in the yurt with some friends. A very tranquil and beautiful setting. The kitchen and shower facilities were excellent. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We had a really nice time. Thank you Amy
