Cotswolds Camping

UK England Cotswolds Oxfordshire

Cotswolds Camping, Spelsbury Road, Charlbury, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire OX7 3LL
Simple camping surrounded by all the delicious Oxfordshire and Cotswolds village food offerings.

Cotswolds Camping is run by two very hard-working friends (with a little help from their husbands). No one lives on the site, but a lot of work goes on in the background to ensure it’s a well organised, extremely relaxed experience for everyone who stays.

The campsite is on the edge of the beautiful market town of Charlbury, with stunning views across the Evenlode Valley. It offers a couple of grass fields flanked by pine trees, with walks across open countryside accessible through a gate at the back. There’s a compact and bijou summerhouse for those seeking indoor space in inclement weather; the washing facilities are all housed in the yard next to the field; and there’s even a small modern kitchen. So all in all it’s a very civilised affair.

Caravans aren’t banned, but the simplicity of this site appeals far more to dedicated tenters. It’s a perfect place to kick back, fill your lungs with fresh air, read the paper, and listen to the surrounding cows, sheep, and chickens. Oh, and waking up to the sounds of resident wood pigeons is priceless.

As well as being a great springboard for visiting the surrounding Oxfordshire and Cotswolds villages, with their honey-coloured stone buildings, Cotswolds Camping is surrounded by yumminess of the food variety. Wander into Charlbury for its many pubs, or head to the little village of Chadlington for a community-managed shop at its best, complemented by a coffee shop that sprawls out on to the pavement a few doors down. You’re not in the middle of nowhere here, but it feels like it.

Quiet, clean and relaxing

May 2, 2017 by Melissa

Stayed over the Easter weekend, very tidy and sheltered campsite close to Charlbury by bike or a short stroll. Facilities super clean and well thought out. Plenty of local walks and rides if you do not want to venture out in your vehicle.

Simply Perfect

Apr 23, 2017 by Shell Shaw

We have just returned from a 3 night break and Cotswolds Camping is now one of our favourite sites so far. Spotless, easy going, lots of space, very well ran, prefect base for the whole of the Cotswolds, main line train also runs from Charlbury so you can pop to Oxford (20 mins away) and leave the car at the site. We only live approximately an hour away and will definitely be returning for some weekend breaks over the coming months. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, John and Shell

Awesome stay

We stayed recently in our camper van and had an awesome stay, the owners are so friendly and helpful, the cleaner helped to explain a great walk into Chalbury, the facilities were excellent and clean, the kitchen is so user friendly, everything you could need, love the way if you have forgotton something you can borrow it as people leave it for the next one, sort of swop shop, our second visit but certainly not our last, well done to the owners,

Cotswolds Camping

I've stayed in the huts here a few times, which could sleep more than the 4 adults that they are advertised for. They don't come with anything in them, but this means that they're affordable! They do have power sockets, which is handy for a kettle etc., and lighting and heating. Nice play area for children and field space where we could play frisbee! Nice pubs and a big co-op in Charlbury.

A fantastic quiet campsite, book ahead if you want a hook up, and bring a long cable as pitches are not defined, leaving you to park where it suits you best. We got a great quiet spot in the corner, the showers and toilets are great and there are plenty available even when the site is full. Area was great for two days of cycling and the owners were very accommodating. Easy to forget that you are on a campsite! Thanks!

Lovely, well thought out site

Jun 22, 2015 by lesley wisbey

It's a lovely site and it's clear the owners are campers. The electric hook-ups are dotted around, not all in one field; the trees break up the field, giving privacy and the facilities are spotless. They've a little wood with a swing and dens for kids; a kitchen with fridges and even a microwave if you need it. We were there in a campervan mid-week and I guess the facilities (which are limited in number) could be crowded at weekends, but otherwise it's really a lovely place about a mile from the pretty little town of Chalbury.

Lovely campsite

Jun 15, 2015 by SJ

We spent 2 nights here (5th - 7th June 2015) trialling our brand new tent. We thought it was a lovely, relaxed and quiet campsite - our 3 year old could roam free and we felt the site was safe and friendly. The facilities were clean and tidy with plenty of hot water and the microwave and kettle in the kitchen area were a real novelty! Great location to explore the nearby area - we visited Costwold Wildlife Park and had a brilliant day out. Would definitely visit again, thank you for a great stay.

Brilliant stay

Absolutely great time,  just two nights but really able to kick back and enjoy.  Obviously a very well  run campsite and yes the kitchenette is indeed a godsend (note two lovely ladies own and run this site... )  Would not hesitate to recommend and next time will be looking to hire the little 2 bed lodges.   Great walks very nearby, and do try to get to Kingham particularly the Wild Rabbit & Charlbury;     ( added bonus - & were able to take our dog)

Fabulous Site

Aug 14, 2014 by Everalla

We camped (tents) here with some friends over a long (and bit soggy) weekend in August. The site is very well organised - the pitches are very spacious and yet the facilities don't seem too far away. Betwen us we had three children under 5 and I was very nervous as to how the campsite would "cope" with us, but the facilities for the little ones are fabulous. There is a really nice little fenced-off area with Little Tikes slides, seesaws and cars which all three kids loved (and I enjoyed the chance to sit down safe in the knowledge that they couldn't run off!).  We pre-ordered a french stick and some pain au chocolat for breakfast, which was a great idea - and set us all up for a fun-filled day! The woodland paths are really well marked and were perfect for a long walk with the buggy (as we tried to get the little one to sleep). All in all a lovely, friendly campsite with great facilities.

Good for a stop over

Aug 2, 2014 by

Stayed here for one night in July 2014. Very well appointed site with shared fridges, microwave, toaster, kettle etc and spotless clean large shower / toilets. However for me this is more of a stop over site (one or two nights) rather than for longer stays as it is a couple of fields and not a lot to do on site. I had a small camper and the cost was £27 for one night with two adults and one child with hook up, which I thought was quite expensive.

Lovely, chilled campsite

Jul 23, 2014 by ro123

I've just returned from a 3 night stay here. The owners popped along in the day and checked everything was ok and were really friendly. The site is pretty and well maintained. Several small fields meant that campers had lots of space but were able to meet others without being on top of each other.

The owners just seem to really want you to have a lovely stay, they don't tell you every rule going like some sites do.

The facilities are really clean and again, well maintained.

The placement of a fridge in the camping field as well as the kitchen was ingenious! I will definitely be coming back.

Just Fabulous

We've just  come back from our second stay at this site. Even though it was advertised as full, the site is not overcrowded or overly busy.  The site is clean and well organised, and the owners are friendly.

Improvements have been made to the wooded area, and we lost the kids for hours at a time, whilst they were den building!  Also new is a second shower block, and an additional washing up area and fridge. Never had to queue for the showers or the toilets.

Definitely in our top five camp sites we've stayed in.

Wonderful

A truely beautiful campsite set in the magnificent Oxfordshire countryside. The site is well maintained and immaculately clean, the owners are very friendly and welcoming. The site feels very private with privits and hedges lining the site. I had originally planned to stay just 2 nights but soon realised this was not long enough to fully enjoy the place and wish I'd booked longer. I highly recommend the site and will return again soon I hope. Thank you Cotswold Camping for everything!!

Weekend away

Jun 24, 2013 by sophiemum

This is a lovely little campsite, very informal and sheltered. We came in our camper and the shower and toilets were very clean, kettle and fridge provided to use too. The woods were lovely too - my daughter made a den! Nice touches for the kids like a tyre swing and basketball and hoop. Would definitely return if we are in the area again.

Cotswolds Camping

This is by far the tiniest campsite we've ever camped on! There were only 4 pitches in use the weekend we were there and I think that at full capacity (10 pitches) the site would still have plenty of room for games. Lovely location with limited light pollution so good for star gazing. Fires & BBQ's allowed off the ground only and slabs & bricks are provided.

The facilities are excellent; it was so handy to have access to a kettle on a frosty morning when our camping gas was playing up. Very easy to book online. Nearby village of Charlbury lovely - good pubs!

Excellent campsite just outside Charlbuy. Only 10 pitches but has a very friendly and comfortable feel. Site has kitchen with microwave, fridge and even a toaster. The site is spotless and well looked after. There is only one shower and toilet for each sex but as we were off season it wasn’t an issue. Lots of good walks nearby. Charlbury has some good pubs, Bell hotel and Bull. Site owners were very friendly and helpful. Booking online was simple? Will be back.

Cotswolds Camping

I would echo the first comments here, as I would also love to keep this place a secret. This was our first time at a tiny campsite such as this, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The facilities are excellent - electric included, although we didn’t use this. Kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge in the kitchen, along with fresh eggs from their own chickens. Plenty of hot water, and despite minimal showers & toilets we never had to wait. The cosy feel was embraced by everyone staying, and we had a lovely peaceful couple of days. Our boys (age 7 & 9) and friends’ daughters (7 & 9) found plenty of space to play and explore, including the small wood/copse nearby, and neighbouring fields. They were delighted by the summer house & selection of outdoor toys that the owners provided. The only downside would be the site appears to be quite rocky under the soil, so we managed to bend a few tent pegs, but I’m being picky here and this is truly the only downside I can find in an otherwise perfect campsite. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful - particularly when we delayed our arrival due to an evening/overnight storm & turned up v.early the next morning instead - our fellow campers were aware and greeted us on arrival. If ever in the area again, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I should really rate this as rubbish to keep you all away. The campsite was well set out, pitch where you like :) The owners freindly and relaxed. The facilities were great. Clean loos, shower and little kitchen, comlete with kettle, toaster and microwave. Alongside the site is a small copse, great if you have kids, this leads to fields and footpaths. The owners also have horses at the end of the campsite and chickens, having fresh eggs for breakfast was lovely. The location is fantastic with many puplic footpaths to explore and the town is within walking distance (although we used the car for shopping). The town is small and friendly with a great little deli and a co op. Back soon !! Judyegg

Cotswolds Camping

This is the Kylie Minogue of campsites: small, pretty and likeable. It’s basically just a very attractive field in a lovely location. It has a clean, new toilet block and even a little kitchen. The proprietors are very nice people, though you won’t see much of them as don’t live on site. If you’re lucky, they may have remembered to pin a welcome note onto the gatepost for when you arrive. Nearby Charlbury (15 min walk or 3 min drive) is a small town with a Co-Op, a deli-type shop and a small handful of pubs, including the lovely Bull Inn - who do fantastic (but not cheap) dinners). If you’re desperate to get out and about, Oxford is half an hour away (use one of the park and rides) and Blenheim Palace is 10-15 mins away. Chipping Norton is also a pleasant enough place. The site does not have many pitches, so it is difficult to discern an overall feel or atmosphere for the it . The rates are very reasonable and their website does online reservations. The site lies in the Evenlode Valley, which the RAF use to send their Puma and Merlin helicopters for low-level training - at all times of day or night. This is infrequent, but if they turn up and you’re not expecting them, you will think you’re going to die. In summary, if you want a charming, simple campsite in a pleasant location, you won’t go far wrong here.
