La Vie en Vert

Ariège, Occitanie
1 acre hosted by Vieenvert ?.
A cute, calm site in a pretty Pyrénéan garden

If ever there was a campsite destined to be on a postcard, it’s this one. The abundance of flowers, the babbling brook running along the back of a lovely old stone house, and 12 immaculately crafted pitches, some right next to the river, make the site a bit of a choccie-box delight. Admittedly it lacks slightly in facilities – there’s no pool and no café – but it does have a small kids’ playground, home-made apple juice on tap, and you can have breakfast in the house, if you like. There’s also a small library, fresh fruit and veg from local farmers on sale, and a BBQ shack available that you can set up right next to the river. Throw in the new tipi – fully furnished and with a wooden dining shelter next door – and the recent addition of Wi-Fi and this quaint, old-fashioned garden suddenly feels all the more modern.

Then there are Claudine and Charles themselves; an ultra-hospitable pair who know the area well and can give you the low-down on the many local highs: biking and hiking trails, water sports on the Bouigane River, chapels, caves, and a string of picturesque rustic villages in both directions. Castillon-en-Couserans is a 20-minute drive and has regular cultural events in summer. That’s if you can wrench yourself away from all the calmness and cuteness, of course.

From the host
On the banks of the Bouigane, in Augirein, in the valley of the Bellongue, Claudine and Charles Daffis live in the open air of the Pyrenean Ariège mountain where they will welcome you in their small camping-garden. The camping-garden features 12 sites from 80 to 100 m2, grassy, flat, shaded and bordered by flowering hedges (over 300 species and varieties of ornamental and fruit plants). The bathrooms are clean and spacious. Claudine and Charles raise fruit trees (formerly Southwest varieties) and ornamental shrubs, some of which came to beautify the garden camping, green haven and quiet, ideal for a relaxing holiday and to relax. You will have a Pyrenean library with magazines, hiking guides, books of history, geography, arts and traditions. But also: table tennis, swings, sandbox, deck chairs, wide barbecue, changing table, river.
Nearby attractions
Hiking and horse-riding arranged from site. Galey has great views and an interesting chapel. Vallée de Bethmal is nice to visit and has a serene lake; good for picnics (there's also a good municipal swimming pool in Castillon Couserans).
Food and drink

Claudine is happy to cook emergency evening meals for the odd passing cyclist in distress, but you’re expected to be self-sufficient. A bio-breakfast can be prepared for €7 per person. The restaurant in Galey (00 33 5 61 96 71 52) emphasises local produce and has a simple, rustic setting. There are also local cheese and meat farms in the area – ask at reception for info.
