A tranquil, adults-only, woodland hideaway in the beautiful Dordogne region.

Listen... can you hear it? No? That, camping compadres, is the sound of silence. Unadulterated peace and quiet in the heart of the tranquil Dordogne. That, people, is the sound of Manzac Ferme.

Nestled smack-bang in the middle of the sprawling Perigord Limousin National Park (eight scenic hour's drive from Calais), Manzac Ferme is the very epitome of rural seclusion. Fringed by thick woodland, this is a true oasis of tranquility, accessible via near-deserted roads which snake their way to this herbaceous hideaway.

This adults-only, dog-friendly site caters to the canvas contingent and the motorhome mob alike. The conscientious owners have thoughtfully limited their field to just 10 pitches, so there's ample room for everyone to relax. What's more the immaculately clean facilities (proper loos, laundry and hot showers) are more than able to cope.

Manzac Ferme and the surrounding Perigord Vert are abuzz with all manner of wildlife. From vibrant butterflies and patrolling eagles, to the abundant trout and grayling in the nearby River Bandiat, to the graceful deer emerging at dawn from the thick forest pines, a stay here offers a real back-to-nature experience.

Despite the calming sense of remoteness, Manzac Ferme lies just 7km from one of the Perigord Vert's loveliest towns, Nontron – home of the famous folding knife and a number of other great attractions and culinary gems (the region is renowned for crêpes and confiture). It's also around an hour away from the legendary Cognac. And without any kids to worry about back at camp, it would be darn right rude not to indulge in a tipple or two....

(info supplied by the campsite)

Hello from Manzac Ferme! We are a very small, family run site in the north of the Dordogne, offering you a beautifully peaceful and quiet "grown-ups" camping experience, within easy striking distance of the many attractions that this quieter part of the Dordogne has to offer.

Guests love the friendly, peaceful vibe on site, surrounded by natural woodland and wildlife. We pride ourselves on our facilities, which we are often told are some of the cleanest to be found in France!

We offer free site-wide wi-fi, which works everywhere on site, including inside your caravan, motorhome or tent. We also accept well behaved pets on site, and we have a wide range of walking options starting from Manzac to ensure both you and they are well exercised!

We are usually around to offer advice on the best places to eat, attractions to visit, places to walk, and lakes to swim in. If that all sounds like too much though, don't worry, we are also more than happy to let you just relax in the sunshine somewhere on our six acres! We look forward to giving you our famous Manzac welcome,  and seeing you on site soon!

Incredible site!

We have just returned home having spent 5 nights at Manzac Ferme. Wow, what an amazing place. The site is small but perfectly set up and immaculately well kept. It is in a beautiful setting, right on the edge of the forest with a river running by. The communal areas are perfect. A small converted barn area for washing up with some useful resources including laminated walking routes you can borrow which were great. They also have some essentials available to buy (fresh eggs - hens dependent! Wine, milk and fresh bread) in case you forgot something. Next to this area is the washrooms and toilets. The showers are spacious and the water was always hot and the showers very powerful. There are two showers and two toilets. All were kept completely clean at all times - literally spotless!

Lawrence and Vira who run the site are brilliant. Super friendly, incredibly helpful and generally just really nice people. Margaret and Georges (Lawrence's parent) who also live in the farmhouse were also lovely and really helpful. It's a really friendly family run site that has such a great feeling to the site. Super relaxed but with everything you need.

The site is dog friendly and the area around is perfect for walking dogs. You could easily not need to use a car and have plenty of walks from the site as all the roads nearby are very quiet and there are loads of footpaths running off into the forest. You also have easy access to lots of the attractions in the area including St Estephe lake, Brantome and Perigeaex.

There are electric hook ups and easy access to water. There is wifi on site which worked really well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and cannot think of a single thing that could have been better (except the weather!). We will definitely be back!

Best Campsite Ever?

I've been to Manzac Ferme three times now. The first time I stayed, I only camped for two nights, but it became immediately clear that this campsite was more than a rest point along the way. Manzac IS the destination. So I came back just a couple of weeks later for a more extended stay, and again the year after for even longer. (Eventually I'm going to want to move in at this rate.)

I love this campsite because: the pitches are secluded and covered with trees - essential shade for hot summers; girolles grow in abundance in the neighbouring wood, ready to be picked and turned into a gourmet campfire feast; there's reliable and fast WIFI (and even a power cord to the tent); my dog Rocky is more than welcome. But the best thing is probably the people - Laurence, Vera, George and Margaret are the best. So friendly and welcoming and ready with a bottle of wine and good conversation but at the same time respect the space of the campers. They do everything they can to make this a beautiful, tranquil retreat for grown-ups and their four-legged friends.

Practical matters: The showers and toilets are clean. The pitches are level. The grass is soft. And the wine is cold.

This site was everything promised by both the description and reviews on this website. Peaceful and quiet? The only sounds were the owls, distant donkeys and cockerels. Clean? Probably cleaner than our own house. Spacious? Only 10 pitches anyway, and by early September we were just a handful of happy campers. Relaxing? With no play area, disco, shop or pool this site is as close to zen as you can get under canvas. But the welcome - that's what really made this site a stand-out. As every one of the other reviews mentions, Georges and Margaret are the heart of this site. They welcome you to their back garden like old friends, giving you everything you could possible need to settle in and relax. A cold drink on arrival, help with getting your gear to your pitch, recommendations for a restaurant or day out - including making bookings for you, little items you forgot to bring, a friendly chat at the beginning and end of the day, drinks on their terrace. They remember everyone's names - no mean feat - from the minute you arrive to months after you leave. Everything is very light touch, even though they have every single thing under control, and it really does feel like you are staying with friends rather than paying for a space on a campsite. The area is great to explore on bike, on foot and in the car; lots of tiny villages, castles, caves, rivers and markets. You're close enough to the bigger tourist spots like Sarlat and Beynac but far enough away to not have the crowds around you at the end of the day as well. We really enjoyed the swimming facilities at the Grand Etang de St Estephe and the village of St-Jean-de-Cole in particular. Everything you need for shopping is close by in Nontron and all that's left is to switch off (if you can - even the wifi reaches to every pitch!) and enjoy the sun and the peace. Thanks Georges and Margaret for a wonderful week in your beautiful home. Jo and Tommy.

Having just returned from 8 nights at Manzac Ferme, we wish we were still there. The site and facilities are immaculate and couldn't be any cleaner. So peaceful and quiet too. All other campers/ caravaners were so friendly.
The shower/ toilet facilities were always spotless, and the showers are lovely. Free flowing hot water and able to control the temperature ourselves. The washing up facilities were also spotless and with lovely hot water to make sure everything was washed nicely.
The pitch is a really good size and plenty of room to chase the evening sun and make the most of the beautiful weather and scenery
Georges and Margaret are very welcoming and lovely hosts. They are always there when you need them, and willing to help with any queries/ questions. Unfortunately our wing mirror glass fell off and broke whilst we were there, but fortunately Georges had some silicone to stick it back on with so we could enjoy the rest of the driving in France!
The area is lovely, there really is something for everyone. You can be as active or inactive as you like. The voire verte is great for exploring traffic free and the local roads are great for cycling as not much traffic. We also went on a lovely walk from the campsite.
We visited nearly all of the local areas recommended by Georges and Margaret and found them all to be well worth a visit.

Can't wait to come back and recommend this site to others.

Thank you George and Margaret for a wonderful stay in your beautiful campsite and being very welcoming. We recently spent 2 nights at Manzac Ferme on our trip around France and wish we could have stayed a lot longer as Manzac Ferme is an exceptional campsite that exceeds every expectation of a campsite. This is the best and most beautiful campsite that we have ever experienced in a beautiful area of France. The pitches are nice and private and large which allowed us our own space and a lovely view of the peaceful surroundings. There are great positions for sun and shade or both.

We were lucky enough to get the sunny warm weather and spent hours relaxing peacefully outside our tent looking at the view, the woods and the stream.

We were very pleased with all of the facilities which are very clean - completely spotless and nice hot showers. It was lovely to be able to purchase bread and wine onsite which was great value for money. There are many brochures with places to visit to complement George and Margaret's recommendations. The Wifi is very fast should you need it. And for us is was nice to be able to stay in an adult only campsite.

There is loads to do in Dordogne and George and Margaret were very helpful in providing a detailed sheet of the best places to visit in the area and we visited nearly all of the suggestions. Would highly recommend visiting Saint Jean de Cole and Brantome and Dordogne is also very close to Rocamadour. This is definitely our favourite region of France and we hope to return to Manzac Ferme for a longer stay to explore more.

George and Margaret were amazing hosts, they were very helpful with settling us in. It is a very rare and special campsite and we would highly recommend Manzac Ferme.

Idyllic

We have just returned from a week at most beautiful, peaceful campsite, run by the lovely Georges and Margaret who welcomed us with a much needed cup of tea and throughout the week were on hand to help with anything from advice on where to visit or making restaurant reservations. The facilities are immaculate and the atmosphere relaxing. One week was not enough, we shall return!

Wonderful hosts

This campsite is extremely clean, well organised and very friendly. George and Margaret are fabulous hosts who greeted us with cold drinks on a very hot day and helped us to get set up and settled in on our shady pitch. Excellent facilities for tent users who require freezer use and the fridge space was also welcome during such a hot week. Nothing was too much trouble, our laundry was washed and dried, plenty of advice given on places to visit and some wonderful walks highlighted in the local vacinity. Dogs are welcomed and ours certainly enjoyed our large, designated pitch. Whilst we were staying there were 3 other dogs but all were quiet and well behaved. The site is well located for exploring the region and there is plenty to see! George and Margaret have excellent knowledge of the area and are happy to offer advice, make a recommendation or even make a meal booking for you! We spent 5 days here but would have been happy to stay much longer.

Second year we have stayed at Manzac, 16 Days of tranquility this time.  You could not wish for better facilities and the owners Margaret and Georges are the perfect hosts. If you are near to Nontron it is a super spot.  Be warned though, an overnight stop can turn into weeks!

Never been to France before so did not know what to expect!  Been camping in UK but never abroad.  When we arrived at Manzac Ferme we had a lovely friendly welcome, which was extra great because we arrived late.  We were helped by staff as we had to set up in the dark.  The following morning we met the rest of the gang there; lovely, friendly and so so helpful.  With the rising sun we were able to see the campsite and could not believe how perfect it was; very large with a small number of pitches, which meant our pitch was very private.  The river at the bottom is a lovely touch.  Such a calm and peaceful feel to the place.  We couldn't have been helped any more by the lovely family/staff.

We were advised on places to go each evening which helped with our trip, and we had a fabulous holiday.  Our only regret is that we didn't have more time!

I don't like to use the same place twice as I like to see what else is out there, however, we will definitely be returning here.

If you want a calm and peaceful campsite with large private pitches and a lovely host family, the look no further.

Thank you for a perfect stay and we will see you in the future.

It's all true

There are so many great reviews about this place and the great hosts - just to say it's all true. A blissful place in the woods with a river running through it. Excellent facilities and hospitality. Enjoyed meeting Margaret and George and sharing a bottle of wine. Very much hope to be back next year.

From first to last, we were made to feel incredibly welcome in this idyllic little campsite. From helping us with all our heavy gear to celebrating our engagement with us (by buying us some champagne!), we had a great holiday.

Because they limit the number of pitches, it always felt relaxed even at the peak of high season. Our pitch was down by a river (with Coypu in) under the shade of some mighty oaks- was very peaceful.

Facilities were excellent (including wi-fi for those who can't live without their iPads :-) and there are lots of country walks around and about the place for fresh air and picnics. They also sell fresh bread and wine on site for those of whom the local Super-U is too far :-) Big thanks to George, Margaret, Laurence & Vera- our accommodating hosts.

A little piece of heaven

We recently spent 8 nights at Manzac Ferme, and to say we were sad to leave is an understatement!

The site is everything a campsite should be - peaceful and tranquil, beautifully kept (the showers are so good!), secluded pitches, and wonderfully small. We chose a spot by the river, which doesn't get quite as much sun, but who cares when you have such an idyllic patch. ( It does get dark down there, so take a good torch if you opt for one of these! ).

Georges, Margaret, Lawrence and Vera are the perfect hosts and really make Manzac what it is. They will go out of their way to make your stay as relaxed as possible, and will do anything for you. They are the most charming and interesting people to talk to - you could sit and chat to them for hours about their adventures.

There is so much to do in the area, Manzac is the perfect place for exploring the Perigord Vert area. There is lots of information on site to help you plan your activities, including a useful daily update board showing what is happening round and about. Or you can chew the fact with other like-minded campers, swapping stories about the day's events, and tips on what to do tomorrow over a glass of wine, whilst catching the last few rays of sun.

Sometimes, things that sound too good to be true often don't meet your expectations. But at Manzac, our expectations were met and exceeded every day, and we absolutely fell in love with the place. I defy anyone to leave without uttering the words "we'll be back".  We definitely will be.

Peace and quiet :-)

Having read umpteen reviews of the site, all praising it to the highest limits, we were expecting close to perfection and that's EXACTLY what we got. If you are looking for a small, very quiet, perfectly run site with squeaky clean facilities and owners who go out of their way to make sure you enjoy a carefree visit.....look no further. George, Margaret Vera and Laurence could not have been more pleasant and helpful. When we arrived it was raining ! We were taken into the farmhouse and given tea and cookies whilst the rain stopped, then Vera loaded up her wheelbarrow with our gear and made several trips up and down a short but quite a steep hill to and from our pitch. The pitch was level and quite shaded right next to the river. A lovely "wild camping" type spot. We spent some lovely days cycling around virtually traffic free lanes and exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. We would not hesitate in recommending this site to anyone. It is everything the reviews say it is and much much more. Thank you all for a wonderful return to France.

A wonderful campsite!

We recently returned from a 6 day stay at the wonderful Manzac Ferme campsite and we cannot praise it enough. A warm welcome from George, Margaret, Lawrence and Vera. who stopped at nothing to make our stay a memorable one (including the use of a duvet to keep us warm during the chilly nights) The location is stunning and there is a wealth of places nearby to visit and explore. If you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy the French countryside then look no further.

Very happy campers.......Julian & Lucita

Beautiful 4night stay

We had the most relaxing 4 night stay and wished we had booked for longer. aS soon as we arrived Larence greeted us with freshly brewed coffee and biscuits while we set our tent up. it felt very exclusive but very friendly at the same time. Laurence, Vera, George and Margaret were most helpful and friendly. They booked a restaurant for us gave us lots of useful information and helped us with some gas when we run short. A very beautiful and private site. Would not hesitate to recommend and hope to come back in the future.

Just returned home from a 12 night stay at Manzac Ferme. Can't fault the site, or the owners George, Margaret, Lawrence and Vera,  who are all very welcoming and interesting people. The  toilets and showers are always very clean ( probably the cleanest I have ever seen on a campsite). Hot chocolate, peaches and plumb tart on arrival,  and help to move all of our equipment to the secluded pitch which was covered with trees close to the river. The site is in a beautiful location where we were able to completely relax and enjoy our surroundings. We also had power and wifi on the pitch at no extra charge.

Thanks for a great stay and we look forward to our next visit.

Camping as it should be

We had a short list of sites after leaving Vannes this morning. After speaking to Lawrence we decided Manzac Ferme was the place for us and, 274 miles later, have decided it was most certainly worth the drive! An idyllic location, spacious, natural pitches, no water parks and no mobile homes... As the title says, camping as it should be.  Thanks to the wifi I'm writing this as I sit between my tent and the river, drinking wine and listening to the wildlife in the forest around me. Perfect!
