Camping Les Dômes de Miage
Europe France Rhône-Alpes Haute-Savoie
There's not many campsites out there that can rival this one for views. Elevated 900m high in the Haute-Savoie region of the French south-east, Camping Les Dômes de Miage boasts unparalleled breathtaking vistas of the mighty Mont Blanc and surrounding Rhône-Alpes.
Managed and maintained by the charming multi-lingual hosts Stéphane and Sophie, this Alpine Eden is a veritable institution. Welcoming campers for more than 50 years (that's three generations), Camping Les Dômes de Miage doesn't go for the bells and whistles ("no noisy swimming pools, no static-caravans... no animation programs" – whatever they may be!) and why would it need to with a setting like this?
It's a site of happy contrasts – sprawling yet remote; wild yet well-managed. Kids can ride their bikes with abandon, unencumbered by the tents and caravans occupying the spacious, shady (if you prefer) pitches which align the site's wooded fringes. Facilities are first-rate, free and open 24/7 (with the shop and reception open till 8.30pm). For those wishing to really indulge, Les Dômes de Miage also boasts a lovingly-restored mazot (that's a Savoyard chalet to you and me). All old Italian marble floors and hand-crafted wooden furniture, a stay in this timber-clad former granary is the height of luxury.
Unlike many purpose-built ski resorts round these parts, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains has a uniquely authentic Savoyard heritage and charm. And then there's the view – the sublime mountain-scape that launched a thousand brush strokes and stanzas of Romantic verse. A campsite on the roof of Europe? We think that's a height worth scaling...

Nearby
It's all about the mountains here. Mont Blanc (literally) looms over everything. While a climbing expedition will be beyond most campers' means, you can hop on the Mont Blanc Tramway (0033 450 532 275) from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet station, to savour the views from Nid d'Aigle (2380m elevation), in front of the Bionnassay glacier. For less exertive activities, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains boasts an ice rink (0033 450 935 002) and leisure centre down the road with heated pools (indoor, outdoor, paddling), tennis courts, crazy golf, beach volleyball. You can also hire mountain bikes from here. The market in Saint-Gervais-les-Bains hosts a market every Thursday from 8am – 1pm. Bask in the healing mountain waters at Les Thermes de Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc (0033 450 475 454), a thermal spa that's just the ticket for recharging those batteries. Some of the French Alps' most famous ski resorts are all within easy reach of Saint-Gervais, including Megève and Chamonix (site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924). Further afield, Lake Annecy makes for a wonderful day trip. This breathtaking body of water (France's third largest lake) is a popular spot for swimming and watersports. Why not extend your trip to Switzerland? Geneva is only 80km away – don't forget to bring your passport!
Food & Drink
The onsite shop sells bread, wine, snacks and other basics, plus there's a supermarket around 7km away for all your other needs. There's also the Hotel Restaurant les Dômes de Miage (0033 450 935 562) a stone's throw from the site entrance. Cosy timber-beamed bar/restaurant La Galeta (0033 450 931 611) has a proper spit barbecue (or brasérade) and a lovely terrace for al fresco libations. La Vieille Auberge (0033 450 470 476) and Lou Grangni (0033 450 477 639) boasts mountain views and traditional Savoyard specialties such as reblochonnade tartiflette, grilled meats, and, of course, cheese fondue.

No other place like this! Camping in heaven basically...
Great campsite
Immaculate campsite-wonderful breathtaking views-Debbie Walker
Just beautiful!
Base camp for many climbs.
The location of this camping is just perfect for climbing anything in the montblanc mountain range. Easy access to tramway du Mont Blanc(the main way up montblanc).
I camped here the last 8 years. Big pitches very clean facility's! Every thing you need after a hard day of climbing. The owners are great. Their English is very good and they are very helpful. One year ago, one of my theeth was acting up. They got me a dentist appointment the next morning at a very friendly dentist in the vally
The campsite is generally quiet round 22ish. So great for early sleepers. Perfect for when I need to get up early to climb. And when I can sleep in, I easily sleep till 11, perfect for me. All in all a place I would Definitely recommend for climbers and people who just want to have a quiet week away from home.
"As good as it gets"
A hearty and kind welcome from Stephane put us at ease as we hadn't camped for many years. We stayed for 6 nts early Sept when the site was fairly quiet yet we really experienced friendship and helpfulness from both hosts and a big thank you to Sophie for spending time answering many queries. We managed to borrow their Mont blanc tunnel pass which gave us a considerable discount. A lovely clean site with spectacular views and no doubt we will return.

As good as it looks
This campsite is as beautiful as it looks, and as friendly as the reviews say it is. I love the way the owners have left a meadow full of deck chairs in the centre of the campsite, instead of filling it with tents. As breathtaking as it is, the best thing about this site is the owners - bright, friendly, multi-lingual and funny. We left the site to head for Italy, everything fell through and we came back to the warmest welcome and the same pitch. They sell stamps as well as postcards. They love children. They have loo roll and immaculate facilities. A drier as well as washing machines. The playground is brilliant. The campers are a range of ages and a range of nationalities. There is free ice and a cosy hut (with plugs) for wifi acess until 10.30. Did I mention the views?
Lovely campsite, but that isn't Mont Blanc!
Great campsite, but need to correct the misconception. Mont Blanc is not visible from the campsite. The views are equally stunning, in all directions, but the big snow covered mountain you have up there is not Mont Blanc. Funnily enough, it's a mountain called Dômes Des Miage. Great campsite though, and great staff.
stunning location
Stunning location. We stayed here with our 2 children (8 and 7) in August 2014. The hosts are very welcoming and knowledgeable. The site was immaculate and spacious, with extra seating dotted around the site. The children loved the playground and safely cycled around the site. I loved the herb garden where you were asked to help yourself. Woke up to look at the snow capped mountains each morning (as cloud allowed). Easy access to Chamonix etc. cannot recommend enough.
Great baby friendly campsite
We stayed for a week right at the end of the season whilst the campsite was very quite. The owners are very helpful indeed, and the daily order for fresh bread makes the start of each day very pleasant. There is a charge for babies/infants, but you do get access to separate washing/changing facilities which makes bathtime/bedtime much easier, loan of a pushchair/baby carrier and great playground, and perfectly justifies the additional very small cost.
Very clean, well maintained, great views and very helpful staff....thoroughly recommended.
FANTASTIC SITE, GREAT VIEWS, LOVELY PEOPLE!!
Can't recommend this site enough!! Genuinely really happy with our stay here. The site was so picturesque with the mountain views all around and smattering of quaint timber lodges that are for hire but did did not detract from the rustic beauty of this place. Opening the caravan blinds each morning to the magnificent view of Mont Blanc looming over the site was a thrill that we experienced every morning, fantastic!
The toilets and washing facilities are modern and clean and the best showers we have experienced on a campsite anywhere! Plenty of them, powerful enough and hot enough and the best bit - underfloor heating!!! They were very clean too, with plenty of space in the cubicle which as well as the shower included a sink and mirror. We visited mid-end of August with our caravan, the pitches are spacious and the site was busy but definitely didn't feel at all crowded. There is a good playground if you have children, and a nice social seating area where there is wifi available. There is a shop in the reception area that stocks the essentials and we found it very useful, as well as fresh baked bread and croissants etc. are available to order and collect in the mornings.
The people that run the place live on the site with their very polite and pleasant children. They speak excellent English and were always very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We had a bit of a disaster while there in that my husband had a crash in our car. This resulted in us needing a lot of help which they were very eager to give us and for which we will be always very grateful. Highly recommended!!!
A breath of fresh air...
One of the best campsites we’ve stayed at. No better feeling than unzipping your tent to take in the fresh alpine air in great gulps. Not a large site; not too small; just right. Good-sized pitches at a very reasonable price (after Italy). Order your bread / croissant the evening before from the delightful owners. You can perch on the benches on the green near reception / shop to pick up the free wifi, and take in the view of the mountains. That’s also where you’ll find the free ice cubes! We will be back, no question.
Very helpful owners!
Sophie an Stephane are a very friendly couple, which help to get any information you need for your holidays. For me they found out the conditions on my way to Mont Blanc peak. For an alpinist this is a priceless service! And they will help in any other things you need. The campsite is very neat! I'm shure, I will be back! The other visitors are very kind too!
Best regards to Sophie and Stephane and future guests

Superbe, rapport qualité prix excellent
Tres bien situé, calme, superbement entretenu. Vastes emplacements. Sanitaires propres et confortables. Bref, un très beau camping.
Squeaky clean and kind
One of the best campsites I have stayed at. The owners are so attentive and full of information - I think this is what makes it so special. Or is it the fab facilities, the shop that's always open or the irresistible views??! Stay here- you'll love it.
Quiet, clean and so beautiful !
Me, my wife, my child and friends with their children have stayed there on july 2014.
This campsite is at least as good as what one may expect, given all the good things people may say about it. Don't expect to find any pool, or any kind of noisy party entertainment, this is not the kind of place for it! At Les Dômes de Miage, all you get is quietness and rest, at an altitude of 950m, nearby a large grass field with some surrounding trees, and an incredible viewscape on the mountains.
Toilets and showers provide everything you may need, you never miss hot water, and everything is clean all day and night. The booking office offers mini-market, advices about walks to be done around, and ice cubes day and night!
One more thing: owners have done everything they could to fulfill our little needs for things we had forgotten to bring: blankets, kid bicycle,...
the white beast on your doorstep.
Chamonix is only a 20 min journey away sitting at the bottom of mount blanc you can only imagine the activites that you can get up to and the places you can eat and visit.
we have been in france for 2 weeks travelling and staying in different camp sites from lyon to st tropez and nice and this has been the been the best one by far!
would highly recommend it to anybody who would like to visit mont blanc or chamonix and didnt want to stay at a hotel, a real camping adventure with a home from home feel.
