Comfortable camping in a lovely location in the Bois de Boulogne – perfect for enjoying the best of the French capital

Believe it or not, Paris has always been a great place to camp. There has been a centrally located campsite here for years. Well connected to the rest of the city centre, yet, located in the midst of Paris' largest park, the Bois de Boulogne, it has always been a surprisingly bucolic alternative, not forcing you to forgo the pleasures of camping at all.

Recently revamped, and now part of the nationwide and excellent Indigo group, 'Camping Indigo Paris' is open all year round and has a large number of flat and shady pitches for both caravans and campervans and campers with their own tents, including 30 'pedestrian' pitched for those travelling on foot, and also several glamping alternatives.

There are three fully renovated, light and airy washrooms – heated so they are comfortable at any time of year – with shower cubicles and family bathrooms, baby-changing areas and children's toilets, as well as an area reserved for people with reduced mobility. There's also a central lodge with a café that opens onto a lovely terrace and a TV room plus a new children's playground.

It's a large and lovely site, no question, with a great riverside location and the whole of the Bois de Boulogne to explore – you can stroll along the river, take a boat trips on the lakes, visit the Jardin d'Acclimatation theme park or the Bagatelle landscaped gardens, among many other things. But for all the location's appeal, you'd have to be mad to spend too much time here, with Paris waiting just beyond. Get out there and enjoy it – this campsite is a fabulous base for seeing the city!

Grass Pitch with electricity
We enjoyed our stay at this campsite and it definitely has a lot of potential, however there are a lot of renovation works going on at the moment , but when they are completed we think that it will be a very good campsite - the site has everything you need with a shop and restaurant, and there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the metro station with easy access into the city

Sweet Wood and Canvas Tent
Adequate base but not a holiday des
Campsite was OK but generally disappointing. Wouldnt return. staff just doing their jobs but not very friendly or helpfull. The location is inaccessible to paris. Shuttle bus to the metro was always crowded (and not included in the price) followed by crowded metro journey. The tent was a good size but could do with a good clean. Cobwebs in all corners. Bedding clean and warm and little kitchen area was functional. We hired bikes and cycled to the louvre and back which was great. 20 kns round trip. We had fun but had to work hard to go places. Nearby town Suresnes, is a 15 minute walk over the river and has a nice centre with cafes and shops. I think this campsite is probably best as a base for people with camper vans who need somewhere to park and prefer to drive to places. It's not so good for people who like camping in tents in nature without relying on a vehicle.

Grass Pitch with electricity
A large site with good facilities and good location for central Paris. Staff were also friendly. However, our pitch was too small to put up even our small awning adjacent to our VW campervan. It was also very noisy at night next to the road so we didn't sleep very well.

Great location, easy shuttle bus into the city which we have not had on other sites. Water access on the pitch which was a bonus not having to go elsewhere for it. Good shop with all the necessities and plenty of bread and croissants for the day.

Motor home base for a four day visit to Paris. Super facilities, nice and clean. Good club house serving decent food with wonderful staff. Nice little shop with all the essentials you could need and some nice luxuries. The hot patisserie each morning was really useful. Excellent location. A two minute walk to the nearest bus route which was 10 minutes to the sights. And a wonderful city too. Took the chance to visit the Louvre which is highly recommended.

The only one camping and glamping right in the heart of the French capital – enjoy a green surrounding in the centre of the city. Paris Bois de Boulogne campsite has been totally refreshed! The washrooms are now all fully renovated, and the new, bright and modern central lodge welcomes you for a relaxing break. You can also make the most of a redesigned and landscaped site, allowing you to enjoy a brand new campsite, with even more nature, in the centre of Paris! To visit Paris from the campsite, you can walk directly through several fantastic and mythic neighborhoods, such as the Latin Quarter (5th and 6th district), the Marais (3rd and 4th district), the Batignolles (17th district), the Butte aux cailles (13th district), Montmartre, the city island and Saint Louis. After a bust day exploring the city – including the Eiffel tower, the Champs Elysées and more – come back to the green setting of the campsite on the banks of the Seine and make the most of the new facilities: a bright and modern central lodge that opens onto a lovely terrace and a new children's playground.
Nearby attractions
In the Bois de Boulogne you're in the heart of Paris, and during summer the campsite's bike hire service is a great way to see both the park and the rest of the city – though there is also a metro station 2km north of the site at Pont de Neuilly. A former hunting ground of the Paris monarch, the Bois covers a massive area, and has 15km of cycleways and some 28km of bridleways and footpaths. Specific points of interest include the elegant Parc de Bagatelle, with its wonderful landscaping, magnificent rose gardens and Chinese pagoda; the Jardin d'Acclimatation, an originally 19th-century theme park with rides, mini golf, boating and more; and the botanic gardens and glasshouses of the Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil. Beyond the Bois, well, there's the rest of Paris...!
Food and drink
The site's new café-restaurant serves homemade pizzas and plenty of other dishes and has a lovely terrace on which to enjoy them – it's open weekday lunchtimes and every evening during the peak summer season. The closest restaurant to the site is the old-fashioned and reliable Relais du Bois (01 45 04 27 60), while on the far (city centre) side of the Bois, Oum el Banine (01 45 04 91 22) is a friendly neighbourhood Moroccan If you really want to push the boat out, the Bois has some top restaurants, for example the Grande Cascade (01 45 27 33 51), with its grand fin-de-siecle interior, or the Michelin-starred Pré-Catelan (01 44 14 41 14), whose €100 lunch menus just about make it affordable!
