Camping Milin Kerhé is the very picture of tranquility. The general laid-back air of the place is mirrored in the camping options on offer. Want to pitch up your tent? No problem; fancy rocking up in a VW relic-on-wheels? Go ahead; too lazy for all those pegs and guy-ropes? Rent one of the spacious and quirky hanging tents slung up in the woodland! Moreover, there’s more than enough onsite fun to please everyone, from kayaking and nature trails to volleyball and boules.
It’s all easy to take for granted once you’ve been here for more than a few moments. The setting simply lends itself to the kind of campsite this is – laid back, relaxed and wonderfully natural – simply thinking of a rowdy holiday park should be a criminal offence. Instead, the beautiful river Trieux slides calmly past, sparkling in the French sunlight and catching your eye as you try to peacefully work through the new book you’ve been reading. It couldn’t be further than the swarming Euro-camp parks that have popped up in recent years – and that’s just the way we like it.
The Trieux shouldn’t hold back tiny campers either. For those worried about the river, there is a fence separating the pitches from the water and for most of the summer it’s families that form the bulk of the customers here. The resulting atmosphere is wonderfully social, with little ones quick to breach any language barriers with a lively game of volleyball or a bit of hide and seek amongst the trees.
The all round bonhomie of the place is largely down to your amazingly welcoming hosts Jonathan and Margareth Low. Their hospitality knows no bounds and their midweek evening BBQs are the stuff of legends! Breathe it in folks, breathe it in...
Beyond the neighbouring mountain biking trails and hiking routes, the historic Breton towns of Guingamp, Pontrieux and Treguier. The beautiful island of Brehat is worth a day trip, not least for its charming harbour and Paon Lighthouse. Other beauty spots worth visiting are the pink granite coast and the La Roche Jagu, a wonderfully preserved medieval fortress.
There’s a small shop in reception selling beautiful Breton produce, fresh bread delivery each morning and a food truck, serving pizza, fish and chips and Galettes and crepes on alternative nights. There’s also a lovely bar-restaurant a 10-minute walk away. The nearest supermarket is 5 minutes by car. During the high season, the Low family put on a delicious weekly evening BBQ – a great way to meet your fellow campers.
