Located between Carcassonne and the Montagne Noire, Martinet Rouge is a site of two halves. On the left are campervans and mobile homes, a scene that's generally quite unappealing to campers. But on the right you'll find 63 pitches arranged amid olive and oak trees – and a spread of distinctive bouldeers that date back to bygone eras. These features give the site its unique feel and will keep kids happy for a surprisingly long time.
The excellent facilities will keep them entertained the rest of the time. The large pool (wit water slide) is a popular feature, as is the excellently conceived play area, which cunningly combines a football pitch and a basketball court. Over at reception you can play pool or table tennis or slip inside and enjoy a coffee and a snack. There's also a lot to lure you away – lovely villages like Aragon and Montolieu, lots of Cathar castles, abbeys, and churches. Nature-lovers will also enjoy the site's proximity to nature; the famous Canal du Midi, forests, lakes, rivers, and caverns. And if you're feeling like sand instead of stones, the beaches of Gruissan or Narbonne are only an hour away.
