Grass Camping Pitch

Europe France Brittany Finistère Camping de la Pointe

  • Sleeps 5 (max 4 adults, 3 children)
Located in beautiful surroundings outside the picturesque town of Châteaulin, close to a tree-lined bend of the canalised River Aulne. The pitches are separated by hedges and flowers and are suitable for tents and campervans with awnings (not suitable for large caravans and motorhomes).

The Owner Says

We aim to offer every camper a warm personal welcome and a spacious pitch in natural surroundings. Campers are welcome to wander in the woods or sit and relax in our garden, maybe with a chilled beer or glass of wine.

Set in a conifer-lined valley at the foot of a deciduous forest, the site was recently incorporated within the borders of the Parc Naturel Régional d’Armorique. A stream runs down one side of the site, and the pitches are separated by hedges and flowers, they are suitable for tents and campervans with awnings but not suitable for large caravans and motorhomes . There's also a spacious play area for kids, a chill-out room, outdoor furniture for lounging on and a handy fridge-freezer.

If you fancy having a BBQ, they are available for hire, and there’s a daily boulangerie delivery as well as fresh eggs and vegetables from the kitchen garden.
There's a large wash block with showers, sinks and laundry wash-rooms. Next door there is an information room and book exchange (free wi-fi, too!).
The communal room has a table-tennis table and space enough to relax on a rainy day when you can’t get out.
Along with the woodland, the canal path is ideal for a walking, running, cycling or fishing (the canal is a grade-II salmon stream), but adventure-sports junkies won’t need to travel far either. Make sure you visit Châteaulin, a stroll along the river from the site, is a lovely, floral riverside town, good for a weekly market and supermarkets, restaurants, tennis, and heated indoor swimming pool. There is a centre there that hires out kayaks, canoes and pedalos for use on the calm waters of the River Aulne, which forms part of the 200 miles (315 km) of the Brest–Nantes canal.
Any additional extras such a bike hire/BBQ/Firepits can be purchased on arrival with campsite

Nearby

Châteaulin, a stroll along the river from the site, is a lovely, floral riverside town, good for a weekly market and supermarkets, restaurants, tennis, and heated indoor swimming pool. There is a centre there that hires out kayaks, canoes and pedalos for use on the calm waters of the River Aulne, which forms part of the 200 miles (315 km) of the Brest–Nantes canal. Beaches, water sports, and sand-yachting are 10 miles (16 km) away. Quimper, the medieval capital of Finistère, is a 20-minute drive away. Brest is about 40 minutes away, and that’s where you’ll find the Océanopolis aquarium (0033 2 98 34 40 40), a great for a family day out. There’s also an excellent open-air boat museum, Le Port-Musée, in Douarnanez (0033 2 98 92 65 20).

Food & Drink

During high season, you can order fresh baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat for your breakfast, and fresh eggs and fresh vegetables are available too (seasonal). On Thursdays in high season it’s crêpe night on site, but otherwise there are special ways to enjoy Breton crêpes close by. The Crêperie St Côme (00 33 2 98 26 55 86), on an old farm at St-Côme, near Pentrez beach, has 580 different crêpes to choose from. In Châteaulin Le Miniscule (00 33 2 98 86 28 66) is an easy-going, friendly pizza and seafood bar/restaurant, where moules frites are alway good. L'Entourage is the newest restaurant in town with a small but excellent menu - gourmet burger being a speciality.

Brilliant, stunning, friendly, well managed campsite set in beautiful surroundings

Brilliant, stunning, friendly, well managed campsite set in beautiful surroundings. These have certainly been difficult times and when I came up with a plan to go on a last minute camping trip with my wife and two young sons to Brittany, I took to the cool camping website and came across La Pointe. I was certainly not disappointed. The campsite is beautiful and kept so well by Vikki and Mike who work tirelessly to keep the campsite well maintained and clean. They welcome you with such warmth and are always at hand to give you advice on things to go and see and do. The campsite is wonderfully located and there is a mass of fun activities for all ages and the beautiful Brittany coast only a short distance away. La Pointe also attracts like minded people and if you have have young children as we do then this is definitely a campsite I would highly recommend as my kids met loads of really nice friends which they played with until their hearts content. Thank you very much La Pointe for making our holiday a truly memorable one.

Beautiful campsite 🏕

We stayed in the safari tent which was in such a lovely private spot next to the woods. The tent had everything we needed and the owls kept us company during the night which was amazing. Toilets and showers were immaculately clean and so many of them that we never had to queue. The site was in a great location and central to lots of places of interest to visit and close to wonderful coastline and beaches. Vikki & Mike were very helpful and friendly and I would highly recommend this gem of a camp site.

Peaceful and natural woodland camping

We stayed for 10 nights at Camping de la Pointe and wish we could have been there for 20! Our pitch was beautifully private up on a terrace right beside the woods and we heard owls and saw bats at night, as well as frogs including the tiniest baby ones! The campsite itself is beautiful, filled with lush planting and including a fabulous kitchen garden with chickens. The showers and loos are really clean but nothing is overly glitzy - just right. A 20-minute walk along the river takes you to the quiet town of Chateaulin where you can find good supermarkets and a bakery, a few bar-tabacs and a couple of nice restaurants. We really appreciated the daily bus to the nearest beach as we didn’t want to drive more than necessary. Having said that our favourite discovery was the Inter-Celtic music festival in Lorient (an hour’s drive away) which takes place every year at the beginning of August and is a complete blast. The whole town is taken over by music, dancing and making merry. We’re already planning to go again next year... Thank you to our hosts who work very hard to maintain the high standards they have set themselves.

Really peaceful site

My 14-year-old daughter and I had a short 3 day stay here which, despite some changeable Breton weather, was really delightful. The British owners couldn’t have been more helpful and all the facilities were really well-kept and clean. Washing machine, microwave, information rooms were all a godsend and nothing was too far away whilst the pitches were quite private. Would definitely recommend this site!

Excellent campsite

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay in the safari tent. The tent was really well equipped and we had a very comfortable stay. The site is quiet with good facilities, and we especially appreciated the bread and pastries in the morning. The owners, Mike and Vikki, could not have been more helpful, supplying us with coffee and a car tyre pump when we had car issues.

Getting There

It’s about an hour’s drive from Roscoff, but if you’re coming from Rennes take N12 and then change to N164, signposted Quimper. Once you get to Châteaulin drive down to the river in the centre, cross the bridge, and follow signs to Quimper on D770. After 1⁄2 mile (1 km) turn left, signposted St-Coulitz, and the campsite is 110 yards (100 m) further, on your right.
