22150 Lingouet, Plouguenast, Brittany, Côtes-d'Armor, France
In a time-honoured tale, English ex-pats Anne and Ralph Harrison went looking for the French countryside dream and found it just outside the picturesque Breton village of Plouguenast. Discovering their own pocket of rural bliss, this affable couple set about transforming the sprawling grounds of the newly acquired farmhouse into one of the area's prettiest spots for pitching up.
Pinàbre (named after the plentiful towering pine trees which tower over the grounds) is the Goldilocks' bed of campsites – not too big; not too small; just right. Well... we say not too big – though it is an ample 7,000 square metres, your conscientious hosts have a refreshingly informal 'no-set pitches' policy, with a maximum of just 10 emplacements.
With all this free space, campers are free to boot a ball around the well-kempt, fir-fringed field without fear of disturbing their fellow campers – though in a setting as tranquil as Pinàbre, such disagreeable natures are sure to melt away.
The site boasts all the ammenities we've come to expect of our French campsites (including a trampoline and paddling pool for the kids), though with a pleasing lack of commericalism.
Considerate to the last, Ann and Ralph will even let you borrow a bike from charming old barn for the short cycle along traffic-free lanes into Plouguenast for your morning pastries.
With a charming array of Breton towns just waiting to be discovered, and the golden sands and crashing waves of the Atlantic coast all within easy reach, isn't it about time you shared in Anne and Ralph's dream too?
The Owner Says
This is just a few of many reviews we have received in our first few years of opening.
We really enjoy meeting the campers, it's great to see people relaxing and enjoying life.
We are only a 10 pitch site on a very large field so there is never a feeling of being closed in.
Date of Visit: August 2013Unit: TentRating: Reviewer: MikeandSam12 reviews from this memberThis was our first camping trip overseas as a family and we are so glad we chose this site. This is a lovely, friendly, quiet site in a great location for exploring rural Brittany. The owners, Ralph and Ann, are so welcoming and helpful in every way that we felt like valued guests rather than just another set of campers - thank you! They always found time to help with queries and gave advice about making the most of the local area, as well as practical information about things like shopping - as it was our first time in France it was helpful to learn about shop closing hours etc. The site is a more or less level grassy field with well sited EHUs and water supply. The two bathrooms each have a shower and a loo and are kept spotlessly clean. There's a double sink for dish-washing and hand washing and a washing machine with a small charge for doing a load (3 euros)Generally there are only 6 units on the site. On the occasional night when there were a couple more, there were slight waits to use the facilities, but nothing that caused any difficulties. There are plans for an extra loo to be put in. There was plenty of room on the camping field for the children to run around and play without disturbing other campers and they loved it here too. There are lovely local walks and the area would be ideal for cycling too as there are many quiet lanes in the neighbourhood. Maps were available to borrow on site. Because of the small size of the site it is a great place for meeting up with other holidaymakers - and we were all able to make new friends! Days out to beaches on the north Brittany coast are easily accessible. Lac de Guerledan has bathing beaches and other water activities and is a short drive away. Near there, the Abbaye de Bon Repos (market on Sunday morning) and Les forges des Salles were well worth a visit. We also did longer days out to Mont St Michel, Cap Frehel and Carnac from here - the road network is excellent and we found getting about easier than we had anticipated. We found Loudeac's supermarkets ideal for getting supplies (the local tabac and boulanger had closed for their two week summer holiday while we were there). Camping Gaz 907 refills are available inside larger supermarkets- and cheaper than at home. We hope to come back to Plouguenast soon!Date of Visit: August 2013Unit: TentRating: Reviewer: NathalieandPhilip1 review from this memberWe were so glad to arrive at the site to find such a lovely space to camp in and such warm greetingsThe site itself isn't one of those huge affairs and we were told that once we had set up they were actually full. In our view however with only 8 pitches and loads of room between each other, we couldn't believe how lovely it felt, and peaceful too. The bathroom facilities were so good. Two spotlessly clean rooms that made us jealous of ours back home! All in all, this is the best camp site we have ever stayed at and we will definitely recommend Pinabre camping to our friends.Date of Visit: August 2013Unit: TentRating: Reviewer: Tunny8882 reviews from this memberJust returned from two weeks at Pinabre we had a wonderful time. This was our first visit to France as campers and we weren't disappointed. Pinabre is a great campsite not big or commercial which we prefer, it has 2 toilet/shower rooms which occasionally got busy but this was never a problem, maybe a couple of separate toilets would be an improvement. It is well situated in a quiet corner of France not to far from local amenities in Plouganaset. We visited many of the nearby tourist attractions but not all so we've got an excuse to go back. The site owners Ann & Ralph were the perfect hosts always there if we needed help or advice so a big thank you to them. We would recommend Pinabre to anyone and will definitely be returning.Date of Visit: July 2013Unit: Touring CaravanRating: Reviewer: Kenboagogo2 reviews from this memberThe perfect caravan site. A massive mowed meadow that will only ever host six units! A beautiful toilet block with two wet rooms I'd love for my own house. Free WiFi! Laundry facilities and local information area. What makes this site very special, however, are the owners. They have managed to find the difficult balance between being in your face and interfering and abandoning you to your own devices the result is a lovely friendly couple who make you feel at home but leave you to enjoy your holiday. They are also genuinely good craic! What about what the site doesn't have? No kids club, great (I've got five kids and this site is perfect in terms of space and letting them use their own imagination whilst not annoying other campers). No bar, great (I did share a beer or two with other campers, but a quiet site with no bar is perfect). No pitch markers, great (absolute freedom to pitch where you want). I chose this site as a one off for its locality, it will now be central to future holiday plans. The perfect caravan site!Get a sign!Date of Visit: July 2013Unit: TentRating: Reviewer: Derbydale1 review from this memberWhat a fantastic campsite - perfect for getting away from it all and with holding only 6 pitches, we knew it wasn't going to be a crowded site. The hosts - Ralph and Anne are most helpful upon arrival and friendly. The bathroom facilities are first class and they are able to charge small electrical items, which is a bonus for when the camera battery runs out! The site is about a 10 minute drive away from the beautiful town of Monconteur - the patisserie is a must visit! The site is well located for days out to other towns and the beach too. There is even a campsite cat which, if you're a cat lover is the cherry on the cake. Would highly recommend this site without the slightest hesitation - excellent value for money

Cleanest site ever in 30 years of camping
Just back from a week at Pinabre and really wishing we had stayed longer. Site is spacious and peaceful. Well situated for exploring Brittany with everything needed in the local village if you do not want to travel far. We had a day trip out every day to explore but really would have been happy just relaxing on site. It's like camping in your own back garden only it is much tidier and prettier than mine. The shower rooms are amazing and in 30 years of camping they are the most spacious and cleanest I have ever seen. Free wifi is a bonus. Ralph and Anne work hard to keep this site at this standard and it was much appreciated, friendly and very helpful in all aspects. Would thoroughly recommend and will definitely be going back.
We visited this site in July 2017 and stayed for 5 nights. Ralph and Anne was the most helpful owners and always on hand to help out. The site is very well maintained, the grass is mowed regularly. There is a good satellite signal if you have satellite dish. the bathrooms and washroom area was immaculate. There are shops and a little supermarket close by. The location is excellent location to tour Brittany. We will be definitely visiting again.
Outstanding site. Perfectly positioned to explore Brittany and the delights it has to offer. Ralph and Anne were the perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble! The site has amble room for pitches and even an area with games and other items such as a paddling pool for the younger generations! All the amenities were in excellent condition and very spacious! The star gazing was exceptional in the evenings and the site was very quiet. If you like you're creature comforts but don't want a commercial site then this is the place to go - keep it a secret though, this site is too good to share :) Thank you to Anne and Ralph for being wonderful hosts and making us feel welcome and pampered! We will be back!
Camping at its best.
Just brilliant. This site is the best we have ever stayed on. In its central location of Brittany it brings the whole of this fab area of France to you within a day trip. All facilities are correct and to a very high standard. The showers are kept spotless and include loo and basin with complimentary handwash, face towel and flannel. Set in rural surroundings away from main roads this lovely site is quiet and very safe. Our hosts Ann and Ralph are charming and do all they can to ensure you stay is unforgettable. So if you want to experience camping at its best book early well that's what our dog Bella told us. Thank you Ann and Ralph. Brendan,Pam and Bella xxx
Our little campervan made it to this superb site at the beginning of August 2016. Having originally booked for 4 nights, we enjoyed it so much that we returned for another 2 nights after a trip to Quimper. The site is immaculately clean and the showers are excellent. Anne and Ralph are superb hosts; friendly and helpful while leaving plenty of space for privacy and space.
Really nice place to stay
My wife and I stayed at Pinabre site for a few nights with our caravan on our way north to St Malo after a holiday in the south and it was a real joy to stay here. If like us you think that on many sites there are too many signs telling you what you cannot do then this will be a joy to you. With just a small number of units pitching around the perimeter of a large field, from every unit you can sit and look over the farmhouse and buildings to the picturesque landscape beyond. Our hosts Ralph and Ann had the right combination of attention to detail for the facilities are immaculately kept and at the same time being very laidback. A fine place to stay.
Such a lovely place
We stayed at this lovely campsite in September 2015. On arrival, there was plenty of space and we could choose where to set up. Loads of space. We really enjoyed our stay. Very quiet location with small town (Plougenast) just down road. Cycled there a couple of times. We had great weather which helped, but would happily come back. Toilet, shower and washing up block in the longere were superb. Very clean and cosy. Our only regret is that we didn't spend more time chatting with Ann and Ralph as they were lovely. Thank you so much.
We stayed for two weeks on this wonderful campsite at the beginning of August. The facilities are spotless and the lovely owners Ann and Ralph made us feel so welcome! There is so much space for the children to run around and play without intruding upon other campers and there are even games such as croquet, tennis and football thoughtfully provided. It is such a relaxed and friendly site and Ralph and Ann even brought our laundry in for us when it started to rain before we got back to site! It was quite simply, as our daughter put it, "the best campsite ever"!!!! We look forward to visiting again in the future.
Laid back campsite
If you are looking for a campsite where you, your tent/camper, your kids and your dogs can spread out without limitations this is for you. Rock up, pick your pitch, enjoy a hot shower (any time of day) in the exceptionally clean wash rooms and relax. Ralph and Ann know what campers want from their sites and they make sure all boxes are ticked. The site feels large due to the limited number of pitches they allow and we really appreciated this during our stay. A great start to our trip.
We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of 6 week touring holiday in France. Absolutely delighted that we chose this site. Very much like an English CL. Very large immaculately kept field so plenty of room between caravans and tents. Very friendly and helpful owners who could take more outfits but don't so that the facilities are not crowded. We use are own shower and toilet but checked out the sites facilities which were immaculate and up to hotel standard (that is 5 star hotel). Plenty to do and see in the area. We will definitely use this site again. All this at an absolutely bargain site fee.
My wife and I travelled to Brittany to explore the countryside.
Pinabre campsite is a place to stay we can strongly recommend. The owners Ralph and Ann have a warm and friendly welcome. The camping area itself is very well presented and you get a sense of camping on somebody's lawn its that well kept.
The facilities are all in very good order....power, water, washing, showering etc....
The location of Pinabre campsite lends itself to being ideal for exploring the countryside. Everything is in reasonable travel distance.
We had a very relaxing time.
Had only two nights here in our tent but really appreciated everything. Ann and Ralph both work their socks off to keep the bathrooms, grounds and other areas immaculate, and they have put a lot of thought and consideration into providing extras, such as a picnic table, useful if you are a cyclist. The bonus is they really seem to enjoy having visitors and stopping for a chat. They are so welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble - information, ice blocks etc. We loved the space and can only hope these two can maintain the small numbers and great prices and make a living. We have no hesitation in recommending this site.
We stayed here for 2 nights as a base to watch the Tour de France from last week. The English owners were fantastic...accommodating, friendly, helpful. The campsite was 'full' when we stayed - that was all 10 'pitches' taken - but there was still loads of space and we certainly didn't feel crammed in like we had at other sites. The shower and toilets were clean and well maintained...in fact, it was like being in a hotel, not on a campsite! If we are in the area again we will definitely make another stop. Thank you!
Heaven in rural France
We found this pretty campsite in rural France. Perfect peace and quiet to relax and ideally situated to explore local region. From the beaches and headlands of the coast around St. Malo, Mont St Michel , to Rennes, Dinan (you must visit this gem) Josselin, the Foret de Brocéliande all within an hour on easy roads, and nearby Moncontour. The campsite is level, flat (not bumpy), fairly easy to drive pegs in. Plenty space 20-50 metres between campers. The site is surrounded by trees giving protection from the winds which can blow in Brittany. There is EHU for €3 if you need it and waste disposal. The are several taps with potable water. The toilets and showers are the cleanest I've ever found on any site with plenty hot water day or night and the hand towels, shower curtains are changed daily. There is a washing area for dishes and a washing machine is available for €3. There is a play area for children. We planned to stay 3 days and stayed 5. The owners Ralph and Ann are a delightful and welcoming couple who having experience of touring in a caravan themselves have created a perfect site. Its a 15 minute walk down a very quiet country road to a local mini market for supplies. The night skies are incredible here, when did you last see the Milky Way in all its majesty. This campsite has everything except the noise, clubhouse, water park, shop, dirty toilets, cold showers and the overcrowding found on so many sites. I highly recommend this site.

We loved Pinabre! We only stayed for one night on our way further south in August 2014 but it suited us down to the ground and we were disappointed we couldn't stay longer! It's a lovely and peaceful site with plenty of space between pitches. The shower/toilet facilities were great, very clean and modern and I was happy to take my flip flops off in the shower (something I can't always bring myself to do on a campsite!!)! Ralph was very welcoming and could not have been more helpful, even lending us an adaptor for the electric hook up when we foolishly forgot our own! We will definitely be back, hopefully for longer next time!
Pinabre relaxing and superb facilities
We have gone back to this wonderful site for the past 3 years and will be returning next year, Ralph and Ann are a lovely couple and run the best caravan and camping site in Brittany. It is a very quiet, friendly and has spotlessly clean facilities. Highly recommended for both 1 st timers in France to seasoned French caravan owners/campers. Not far from St Malo (1 hour) and Caen (3hrs). As others have stated before a fantastic site and truly a gem of a location. Counting down till we go next year.
The perfect family camp
The other reviews say all there is to say about the site and the surrounding area. The site is spotlessly clean, with excellent facilities and friendly, helpful hosts in Ann and Ralph.
Our family camp comprised 8 adults and five children in two tents, a caravan and a camper van. Ann and Ralph were very relaxed about where we chose to pitch and were happy for us to 'take over' the further end of the field where the children (and adults!) had plenty of space to run, play and burn off any remaining energy at the end of the day, without disturbing other campers.
If you are looking for a small, friendly, English-run camp site in this area, you can't go wrong with Pinabres.
This site is fantastic! it is very reasonably priced and has a nice atmosphere the facilities are immaculate with powerful showers and hot running water and there was never any queuing for facilities at the site. the owners are super friendly and always welcoming there is no litter and enough water points. The bins are a short walk down the road, there is a intermarche a short drive away, bear in mind that this closes for lunch. The site also has some badminton equipment. Overall this is a great site and you would be foolish not to stay there.

Stayed at Pinabre in August 2014 and loved it. We cant add much about the site than the other reviewers have already said.
Its a clean, quiet and a well run camp site. We were met by Ralf and he was very welcoming, gave us all the information we needed about the local shops and supermarket (five minutes away in a car or twenty minutes away if you want to walk through quiet country lanes).
There is lots of space and you certainly feel that you are well and truly in the country side. I suppose the best recommendation we can make is that if we are in that area again we would defiantly stay there. Pinabre is certainly worth five stars.
Pinàbre Brittanys Best
My husband and I had been travelling in France and arranged to meet up with friends for our last week. Our friends had chosen this camp site. When we arrived we were met by Ralf the owner, who gave us a very warm welcome. We were all overjoyed with the site as it gave the impression that we were guests of Ralf's family, and wew were staying in their very, very large garden. There was a lot of room as only 6 units stay at any one time, and we could pick where we wanted to camp as there were ample electric sockets to allow us to do this.. The electric sockets needed a 'French' adapter, but Ralf had one available at no extra charge for those who needed it. The site had been freshly mown, with pots of flowers, hanging baskets, beds containing shrubs and a very sturdy wooden garden swing that could hold two adults. Ralf and his wife Ann were readily available to answer any questions on inquiries about trips out etc. And would make a point on checking if everything was ok. The 2 showers were excellent, each had a basin, toilet, toilet paper, (often not supplied in France) soap, hand towel and a microfibre mop and cleaning cloth. The actual shower was spacious and you had a choice as to weather you used the rain shower or the one with a movable shower head. The larger shower room also had a chair, which very helpful for my husband. The showers felt as if they were the families personal showers, not at all like camping showers. The wash-up area was excellent, all very clean, with a cloth and washing up liquid for those who hadn't had chance to buy their own. The use of the washing machine was the cheapest we had had on our 9 week trip to France, at 3 €'s per wash. I would highly recommend this picturesque, quiet site.
This campsite ticks all the right buttons, large enough not to be on top of other users, very clean, modern and spacious washing facilities with constant hot water, friendly and informative owners, nothing was too much trouble at all. The campsite itself is set in a lovely rural part of Brittany offering views over the surrounding countryside, plenty of walks for the energetic or just stroll 100yds down to the river and relax with the horses and fishermen. Cycle into the town of Plouguenast for the early morning baguette or along quiet roads to the nearby villages, all offering their own taste of French living. Major towns such as Vannes or Saint-Brieuc are within easy reach by car for those who want a bit of cafe culture or a day by the sea. Vannes in particular has a large natural bay with tiny islands serviced by ferries. Dinan with its medival centre is well worth a days visit. Closer villages like Loudeac and Moncontour have an array of restaurants and bars, all within easy reach from the campsite. Overall this is a great campsite with very friendly and helpful owners, will return one day.
