All pitches are grassed and vary in size between 100 sqm and 200 sqm. Each is equipped with 10AMP electric hook up and there are communal water points located throughout the site. About Camping Domaine des Mathevies

Suitable For

Something for Everyone!

Campers in tents, campervans and caravans.
Guests who just want to turn up and unpack in clean and comfy accommodation.
Pooches on leads welcome.

Sainte Nathalen is super central to all local attractions and activities.
There are stacks of things to do locally if the active mood takes you, from lunching in Sarlat to exploring the caves and chateaux. Quality wine here is great value. Canoeing is a must: the Dordogne River is lazily paced and it’s a wonderful adventure for kids (life jackets provided).

Food & Drink

The Cosy Nook Café turns out a bevy of barista style coffees, organic teas and alcoholic drinks. A range of great value wine is on offer thanks to a good relationship with local producers. In the evening food is served by local food trucks who set up on the terrace and offer a variety of local and world food. Nearby Sarlat-la-Canéda takes its cuisine very seriously and its winding streets are full of restaurants and bistros. For something different, Chez le Gaulois (05 53 59 50 64), tucked away in the centre of the old town, serves rustic platters of cheeses and charcuterie, boiled potatoes, salads and melted raclette. Service is great and the atmosphere superb. It’s small and popular so booking is advisable. There’s also Delpeyrat (05 53 28 10 43) in Carsac – a traditional French dining room, producing homemade delights, a great favourite with the locals. In true style meals can go on for some time, so it’s not perhaps the best for restless children. Out of town, try the Pech-de-Malet (05 53 28 14 82) in Vitrac, a family owned restaurant with fab terrace and views across the valley – ideal for kids. Finally, a two-minute drive from the campsite, L'Escale (05 53 59 22 18), in Sainte Nathalène, has a nice terrace and a family-friendly menu including, pizzas, steak frites and ice creams.

Peaceful, relaxing setting

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at the campsite. We definitely could have stayed far longer as there was loads to do in the area. The campsite is beautiful. Each pitch allows you to have your own private space, with trees and plants bordering each plot. The view from our pitch was lovely. The reception area with chilled out bar was lovely, catered for children well, and we really appreciated the daily food vans which each had good vegetarian options. The shower block was exceptionally clean. Some really good running routes from the campsite down to the river and around the villages. Thank you for our stay!

Response from Camping Domaine des Mathevies

In a year of great uncertainty we are especially grateful to all of our guests who were able to come, enjoy the wide open space, tranquility and beauty of this very special corner of the Dordogne. We are in abundant nature and so here it has been easy to forget that the world is a little upside down right now. Thank you for your comments, we really enjoyed welcoming you and your family. With so much to be seen we hope to welcome you back another time. Natalie and Patrick

Delightful site with excellent owners.

Just spent 2 nights at this delightful site on my way to Spain. Will go out of my way to stay on the way back. Beautiful area, characterful pitches, owners go out of their way to be helpful but above all spotlessly clean facilities. So pleasant. Thank you Patrick and Natalie.

Wonderful camping, young children, great atmosphere

Just spent two weeks at this campsite, it is a home away from home... A beautiful and quiet place with an incredible good vibe thanks to the wonderful hosts Nathalie&Patrick. The pitches are a good size, a squeekieclean sanitary and yummy food every evening and delicious wines. Our daughter especially likes the playroom, a heaven for small&big! A 10 star campsite!!!

best camping experience

Natalie and Patrick were incredibly helpful from start to finsh; from giving us chips and eggs on a late arrival, to helping us when our car was having technical problems. The campsite has everything you need with a pool and bar area, I especially liked the organised takeaway night when we had curry. We will be returning :-)

Small is beautiful

Spent 7 nights here at beginning of July and it was great! Clean, friendly, flat pitches, spacious. Even after a storm when there was no power for 24 hours, everyone pitched in and we all spent a great evening in the Nook eating curry and drinking beer by candlelight. Great pool, loads of space for the children, lovely fresh walnut bread every morning... perfect!

Getting There

Take exit 55 from the A20 and follow the signs for the D703 (direction Sarlat). Turn right on to the D61 (direction Carlux). In the village of Carlux take the D47B towards Sainte Nathalène; turn left onto the D47 and go through the village of St Nathalène until you reach the only bar in the village. With the bar on your right, take the first road on the right (you will see an old petrol station/garage and agricultural materials) and follow it up the hill where you will pick up signs to the diminutive hamlet of Les Mathevies.

The nearest airport is at Brive-la-Gaillard, some 30km from St Nathalene. Bergerac Airport is the next closest, about 70km to the west. Bordeaux (200km) is a large international and regional airport served by many airlines. Toulouse (200km) is another large international airport served by many airlines and is equidistant to Bordeaux. By air you will almost certainly need a car or pick-up on arrival.
