Camping Belle Vue lives up to its name, as this beautiful campsite is a real gem in the Dordogne, with stunning views over rolling fields and the beautiful Chateau de Hautefort.A true haven of peace and tranquillity where you can come and relax and unwind amongst some of France's most picturesque scenery.The bread and newspaper delivery to your 'door' is a real treat, and the campsite facilities are great with hot showers, a free Library with books of different languages, and a swimming pool . The on site shop has all you could ask for including local produce, and you can even pre-order your groceries, so that they are ready and waiting for you upon your arrival.All pitches have shade and an electricity hook-up (6 amps); towels, bed linen, sleeping bags and fridges are available to hire.Please note that not all pitches have a view of the Chateau, please ask us about availability of these pitches before booking.

Oodles of things to do, from riding the Velo Rail (pedal karts) on disused railway tracks, to horse-riding, and hot air ballooning (00 33 6 83 43 36 01), which will set you back around €200, but is unforgettable. You might want to head for the river and hire a kayak. In July and August the tourist office organises tours to foie gras and walnut farms. Finally the prehistoric paintings of Lascaux are nearby (a short trip down D704).

Food & Drink

The cuisine onsite is typically French; Cal whips up dishes like Provençal beef casserole and mains are just €10. The onsite shop sells drinks and ice creams. The Auberge du Parc in Hautefort (00 33 5 53 50 88 98) has affordable French fare (mains €13), while Le Troubador is more upmarket, with specialities such as wild boar. A 2-course meal starts at €22.

Getting There

East of Périgueux, pick up D5 through Cubjac and Tourtoirac to St-Agnan; head south on D71, keeping an eye out for signs to Hautefort. In the village square (opposite the Tourist Office) take the D72 for Boisseuilh, continue straight on crossing 3 bridges and, after that, take the left fork in the road; Belle Vue is 500 metres along on the right.
