Modern campervans and motorhomes for hire from Dorset

Legend has it that the first motorhome was designed by an American chap called Raymond Frank, who converted a van to take his family on holiday back in the 1950s. It’s this tale that inspired the name of campervan and motorhome hire company Follow Frank. Therefore, it’s no surprise to learn that the folk behind this business have included family-friendly options in their small fleet. And, in order to make sure that even four-legged family members can come along for the ride, there are some dog-friendly van hire options, too.

In fact, there’s something to suit most tastes in this small fleet of vehicles, whether you want to travel as a couple, a family, or a group of friends in a campervan or a motorhome. Whichever you choose, it should be a smooth journey as Follow Frank prides itself on well-kept modern vehicles that are fully equipped, with everything from bedding to teaspoons included in the price of hire.

Follow Frank’s pick-point is in Dorset, not far from Bournemouth and Poole. The company’s unlimited UK mileage policy means you are restricted only by the length of your hire and your imagination but, in truth, there’s no need to go too far. There are great drives and fantastic destinations east, west and inland. You could journey west along Dorset’s unspoilt Jurassic Coast to lounge on beaches, visit castles, find fossils and stay at loads of great campsites or head east and take the ferry for a ride around the Isle of Wight. Closer still is the New Forest where your campervan can double up as a wildlife hide for spotting deer and New Forest ponies.

The Owner Says

In 1958 an American by the name of “Raymond Frank” desperate to take his family to Florida and the mid west on vacation thought of an idea…….

The idea was to take his van and convert it internally so that it could sleep the family, cook food and have washing facilities. Thus enabling them to travel and stay all in one, Frank coined the term “Motorhome” for his new home on wheels and officially the motorhome as we now know it was born!

The 27 foot Motorhome was the envy of all other campers that summer of ’58 and in less than 18 months thereafter Frank had built and sold seven Motorhomes and incorporated "Frank Motorhomes Inc”.

60 years later here at Follow Frank we pay homage to the great man and invite you all to do as Frank did….(no not build one)….but explore the great outdoors, travel, adventure and be at one with your friends and family. We have a real passion for motor homing and the heritage that Frank created in the 1950’s and anything we can do to help we will!

VW California

My partner and I rented Follow Frank's VW California for a few days on the South Coast. The pickup point was easy to find and the camper van was spotless, and available for us to collect on time. The van itself is beautifully made, as one might expect from German engineers, and everything is beautifully designed and 'just works' :-) We started off by both sleeping on the upstairs bed inside the raising roof. As we are both tall, I found the space to be just too short for my 6'2'' frame and so, for the remainder of the nights, I slept on the rock and roll bed downstairs. This, for one person, was plenty big enough. This arrangement works well for two tall people; with a family, however, you might want to send the children upstairs (they'd probably love to anyway), and the adults sleep downstairs. Everything you need for a camping trip is provided; the one thing I expected, although, to be fair, wasn't mentioned in the description, were three-pin mains sockets. There aren't any, so don't expect to be able to plug in a hairdryer. There are, however, USB ports so you can charge phones, tablets etc., quite happily. One more thing we learned that we didn't really expect, is that it is very easy to quickly become untidy in there! One has to be quite disciplined if you don't want to spend your time scrambling over rucksacks, shoes, bags and so on. To avoid this, you need to make sure that you tidy surplus items away - there is plenty of storage space so this isn't a problem. This is in no way a criticism of the California - it is something that would apply to any camper van. The owners of the California were lovely, and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for a really good holiday.

Incredible Experience!

What an amazing camper! This has everything you need for a camping holiday. We were so surprised how comfortable it was, definitely the best nights sleep I’ve had on a camping trip! Haha Look forward to getting this booked again soon.
